If you've ever dabbled in tracking your protein intake, you'll know just how difficult it can be to hit the recommended 0.75g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. To make it easier (after all, we're all busy!), we tapped four nutritionists for their go-to high-protein snacks. Bon appétit!
Blueberry Smoothie
'Blueberries make the perfect afternoon pick-me-up,' says nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner Farzanah Nasser. 'They've been shown to support memory, focus, and overall brain function, which is exactly why I love adding them to a protein-rich, blood sugar-balancing smoothie in the afternoons, when we tend to need it most. They're also great for gut health, helping to increase beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus.'
Ingredients
1 cup plant/non-dairy milk
1 serving protein powder (20g)
1 tsp almond butter
1 tsp hemp seeds
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend. Nasser suggests adding some gut-loving kefir and bee pollen, if you have them on hand, too.
Apple Slices with Almond Butter and Hemp Seeds
Nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson says this is a quick, easy snack that can work whenever, wherever. 'It gives you around 8 grams of protein and plenty of fiber from the apple, helping to balance blood sugar levels between meals. Almond butter provides healthy fats, and hemp seeds boost protein without fuss.'
Want to bump up the protein content? Spoon a tablespoon or two of Greek yogurt into a bowl and enjoy alongside.
Ingredients
1 apple, sliced
2 tbsp almond butter
1 tbsp hemp seeds
Simply spread almond butter onto apple slices, sprinkle with hemp seeds, and you're good to go.
Edamame Pods with Sea Salt and Lime
Another Ferguson favourite, this plant-based snack packs in around 12 grams of protein and is perfect for the gap between lunch and dinner. 'Edamame pods are a really easy way to sneak extra protein and fibre into your day, plus they're incredibly satisfying and take seconds to prep,' she says.

Grilling season is upon us at long last, and for many Canadians, the chance to soak up more summer by having dinner outside is a key part to making the most of these sweet, sunny days. However, most barbecue fare can be a minefield of sodium. A Health Canada report from 2017 states many Canadian kids and men consume the mineral to potentially health-affecting excess. That includes 72 per cent of children aged four to 13, and a whopping 90 per cent of men between ages 14 and 30. On the other hand, notably, less than half of women in the same age group aren't consuming excess sodium. A small amount of sodium is a necessary part of a balanced diet as the mineral regulates blood pressure, keeps fluids in balance and helps muscle and nerve functioning. But too much is a serious health concern: "The average daily sodium intake of Canadians is currently estimated at 2760 mg, which is higher than the established goal of 2300 mg per day," Health Canada shares in that same report, going a long way to explaining the prevalence of high blood pressure in the country. Typically, these burgers are top-tier in healthiness regarding sodium and fat levels. Some buns, it seems, might have as much salt as the patties they're clasped around. Some buns from the D'Italiano brand have 16 per cent of your daily sodium allotment per bun. That means a burger with one of these buns could have as high as half your daily intake, depending on the variety of patty inside — and that's before you've put cheese or ketchup on it. Wonderbread white buns, meanwhile, clock in at 10 per cent of your daily sodium needs — as do Compliments brand brioche buns. Villaggio's Toscana buns have 12 per cent of your daily sodium allowance, while Dempster's hamburger buns clock in at 10 per cent. Even though it tastes sweet, ketchup packs a sodium punch. At 50 grams — or about four tablespoon's worth — you're being delivered 18.5 per cent of your daily sodium recommendation. Mustard and relish aren't off the hook, either: According to the USDA, the average yellow mustard has 23.5 per cent of your daily sodium in a comparable amount. On the other hand, relish hovers around 16.5 per cent of your sodium needs for about four tablespoons. Adding cheese? One slice of Kraft Singles has 12 per cent of your sodium allowance, while Ziggy's brand cheddar slices offer seven per cent. It's possible that building the perfect burger could cost an entire day's worth of sodium intake if you're not careful. But simple swaps — like reaching for unprocessed cheese, going light on the condiments and checking the nutrition facts on the buns — can keep things in check, as will occasionally choosing patties made from chicken, fish and vegetables in place of beef. King Charles' Cancer Is Incurable, Bombshell Report Suggests

King Charles' will die 'with' but not 'of' cancer, a bombshell report claimed Saturday. The report essentially confirms long-standing rumors that the king's cancer is considered manageable but ultimately incurable, which is the case for many older individuals afflicted by the disease. Charles is 76. The report will be unwelcome in the palace, as it will reignite speculation that the king's health is in a delicate state, rumors that were brought to fever pitch when Prince Harry said in a recent BBC interview that he didn't know how long his father had left to live. Charles' aides have consistently briefed reporters that he is, broadly speaking, winning his battle against cancer and the king himself recently said he was on 'the other side' of the health crisis. The king is back to essentially running a full diary after being diagnosed with cancer last year, albeit with some modifications. The report, by the respected royal writer and associate editor of the U.K. Daily Telegraph, Camilla Tominey, also claimed that Charles will never move into Buckingham Palace due to his health struggles. 'The talk now is that he may die 'with' cancer, but not 'of' cancer following a rigorous treatment program,' she wrote. A spokesperson for the king declined to comment. Tominey who was the first to break the news about Prince Harry and Meghan dating and also about the latter's row with Kate Middleton. The report added that planning for Charles' 80th birthday in 2028, while 'very tentative,' is going ahead. Tominey also claimed that Charles and Harry could be publicly reunited at the Invictus Games, in Birmingham in 2027, with palace aides quietly investigating whether the event could provide a suitable backdrop for a long-awaited reconciliation. It is understood officials hope any reconciliation would include Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The king last saw the children in 2022. Harry has said he can't bring his family safely to the U.K. and hinted some powerful palace figures want him dead. Intriguingly, Tominey suggests that a reconciliation might be considered because of the negative impact the narrative of estrangement is having on the king's reputation. She writes: 'There is an awareness that the impasse cannot continue forever, not least if it starts to reflect badly on the king.' Prince Harry said, in a bitter interview with the BBC following a comprehensive legal defeat on his security arrangements, that he does not know how long his cancer-hit father has left to live because the king won't speak to him. Harry also said he won't bring his family to the U.K., blamed his father for his security being reduced after leaving the royal family, and said he had 'forgiven' those family members who had hurt him. He added: 'Some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book but I would love reconciliation with my family.' Appearing emotional, the prince added: 'I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff.' 'There is a lot of control and ability in my father's hands. Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him,' Harry said. ​'There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. As I said, life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.'
