Potterheads are eagerly anticipating new photos and details about HBO's upcoming "Harry Potter" television series. Another rendition of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" books, the series is expected to debut in 2027 with new seasons releasing through 2037.
"First-years, step forward," HBO Max wrote in an Instagram post this week, announcing that production has begun for the new series. Production begins 24 years after the release of the first movie of the original film series, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

What is the new 'Harry Potter' TV series about?
HBO's "Harry Potter" series will be another adaptation of Rowling's popular books, first turned into a film series starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in 2001. The new series is expected to release over the next 10 years.
Opposed to the films, the television format will allow for a "deep dive into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years," Casey Bloys, HBO & Max Content chairman and CEO, said.

According to McLaughlin's IMDb, the child actor played Oliver Gregory in the 2025 film, "Grow." Directed by John McPhail, the British comedy follows a little girl who is a pumpkin-growing savant.

But others aren't too sure, as some fans have expressed a continued distaste for Rowling's takes on the trans community.

And some don't see the point in another adaption of the books, as the first movies did so well.
"I hope y'all know this wasn't necessary. Y'all didn't even finish the 'Fantastic Beasts' movies," an Instagram user wrote on the HBO post.
The first film of the "Fantastic Beasts" prequel spin-off film series was released in 2016, starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. Fans have been awaiting a fourth film to release, though no production or release dates have been announced.

Emmys 2025: ‘Severance' leads nominees, ‘The Studio' tops comedies as AppleTV+ dominates
'Severance' separated itself from the field with 27 Emmy nominations this year, while 'The Studio' led comedy nominees with 23 in a dominant year for Apple TV+. No other dramas came close to the dystopian workplace series 'Severance,' which achieved a convergence of acclaim and audience buzz for its second season. Leading acting nominations on Tuesday, July 15, came for Adam Scott and Britt Lower for what amounted to dual roles as their characters' 'innie' work selves and 'outie' home selves. Tramell Tillman got a supporting nod for playing their tone-shifting, pineapple-wielding supervisor. Ben Stiller got a directing nomination. Apple's Hollywood satire 'The Studio' was expected to make a big showing for its first season, but it romped over more established shows like 'Hacks,' which got 14, and 'The Bear,' which got 13.
