— Steven Spielberg reflects on the 'life altering experience' that was 'Jaws,' which celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer, in the new documentary 'Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story,' streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on Friday, July 11. Voices include those who worked on the film, like composer John Williams, production designer Joe Alves and actors like Jonathan Filley and Lorriane Gary, as well as filmmaker luminaries from James Cameron and Jordan Peele to George Lucas.
— Alex Ross Perry's experimental documentary about the '90s indie band Pavement ('Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain') will be streaming on Mubi on Friday, July 11. There are actors ('Stranger Things'' Joe Keery, Nat Wolff, Jason Schwartzman), the real guys (Stephen Malkmus), archival footage and irreverent stagings that help evoke the spirit of the band, and kind of tell their story, as unconventionally as possible. The AP named it one of the best of the year, so far.
— Writer-director Mark Anthony Green's debut movie 'Opus,' a cult-horror about a reclusive pop star and a mysterious retreat, did not receive the best reviews out of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. But it touts the kind of cast and intriguing premise that makes it a hard-to-resist curiosity, with Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich leading, that begins streaming on HBO Max on Friday, July 11. In his AP review, Mark Kennedy wrote, 'How both could be totally miscast will haunt your dreams.' Kennedy added, 'Green wobbles as he tries to land this plane and what had been an intriguing premise to talk about fame and the parasitic industries that live off it turns into a gross-out, run-for-it bloodfest and a plot that unravels.'

— ABC's 'Bachelor in Paradise' marks its 10th season this summer with a golden twist. Contestants from 'The Golden Bachelor' and 'The Golden Bachelorette' are sent to a resort in Costa Rica to have fun in the sun and possibly make romantic connections. There's also a number of younger 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette' cast members who randomly get added to the mix. Jesse Palmer hosts with Bachelor Nation favorites Wells Adams serving as in-house bartender and Hannah Brown, who is in charge of Paradise Relations, whatever that means. It begins streaming Tuesday on Hulu.
— Peyton Manning's Netflix docuseries 'Quarterback' returns for a second season. Cameras follow NFL Quarterbacks Joe Burrow of the Cleveland Browns, Jared Goff of The Detroit Lions and Kirk Cousins. Cousins was also featured in Season 1 as the QB for the Minnesota Vikings but in Season 2 we see him injured from a torn Achilles. He eventually parts ways with the Vikings (who drafted Michigan's J.J. McCarthy ) and signs with the Atlanta Falcons. All eight episodes drop Tuesday.
— There's a 'Bosch' spinoff premiering Wednesday on Prime Video focusing on LAPD homicide detective Renée Ballard (who you may recognize from the 'Bosch: Legacy' series finale.) 'Ballard," starring Maggie Q as the titular character, is also based on books by Michael Connelly.
— Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Network presents 'a social experiment' where three families live 'Little House on the Prairie'-style for eight weeks. 'Back to the Frontier' streams a new episode for eight-weeks beginning Thursday on Max.
— Meg Stalter of 'Hacks' stars in a new Netflix comedy from Lena Dunham called 'Too Much.' It's a semi-autobiographical story about Dunham's life about a heartbroken New Yorker who moves to London to begin anew and finds herself drawn to a musician (Will Sharpe,) against her better judgment. An impressive roster of talent including Andrew Rannells, Naomi Watts, Kit Harington, Andrew Scott, Rhea Perlman, Richard E. Grant and Rita Ora make appearances. All 10 episodes drop Thursday.
— Dexter Morgan takes Manhattan in 'Dexter: Resurrection,' a sequel to 2021's 'Dexter: New Blood.' Michael C. Hall reprises his role as the serial killer who hunts other serial killers. In 'Resurrection,' Dexter meets a secret society of serial killers led by a character played by Peter Dinklage. David Zayas continues his role of detective Angel Batista from the original. It premieres Friday, July 11.
— The cast of 'Love Island USA' was so popular, they've got their own spin-off called 'Love Island: Beyond the Villa." The show follows six of the core cast living in LA as they adjust to the limelight and attempt to maintain their relationships. It debuts Sunday, July 13, on Peacock.
— MGM+ has an adaptation of Stephen King's 2019 novel 'The Institute.' It's about a teenage boy named Luke — with an exceptionally high intellect — who wakes up a strange, unknown facility run by the government that imprisons kids with unique abilities. The sci-fi horror series is eight-episodes and stars Ben Barnes and Mary-Louise Parker. It premieres Sunday, July 13.

Despite a debate night endorsement of Harris in September that sent Donald Trump spiraling, Taylor Swift decided to sit out the remainder of the 2024 cycle. The forthcoming book, 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America, reveals new details about who's at fault for there never being a Harris-Swift moment on the campaign trail that could've captivated and motivated the pop star's legion of fans. 'Swift proved to be a special challenge. Staffers who worked on celebrity appearances were instructed not to make any outreach to her universe; Doug Emhoff was handling it,' wrote journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf. Emhoff, the authors explained, had an in with Swift's team. 'Before Harris became vice president, Emhoff had had a lucrative career as an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles,' they wrote. 'He and Swift's lawyer, Doug Baldridge, were both partners at the firm Venable.' Emhoff, the authors wrote, had reached out to Baldridge to 'convey that the campaign would appreciate any efforts the pop star could make to help Harris.' 'Baldridge said Swift would do what Swift thought was best,' they said. Taylor Swift surprised the Harris campaign by endorsing the Democratic nominee directly following her September 10 debate against President Donald Trump. Second gentleman Doug Emhoff was the only person allowed to do outreach to Swift's team On September 10, Harris stepped onstage in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a first and only debate against the GOP nominee, former President Donald Trump. 'Minutes after the debate ended, Taylor Swift surprised the campaign with a full- throated endorsement posted on her Instagram,' the authors noted. 'She shared a photo of her with her cat, Benjamin Button, and signed it "Childless Cat Lady," a dig at J.D. Vance.' With no audience in the actual debate hall, the Harris campaign had set up shop at the Cherry Street Pier, an old warehouse on the Delaware River converted into art galleries and a performance space. 'Harris asked if she should mention the endorsement when she spoke to supporters at a watch party,' the authors said. 'They said that would sound too thirsty, but agreed to change her walk-off song to Swift's "The Man."' The mood in the room was electric - and it only seemed a matter of time before Swift, herself, would make some sort of appearance along Harris' side. Swift famously didn't step into politics until the 2018 campaign cycle - endorsing Tennessee Senate candidate Phil Bredesen and Democratic Rep. Jim Cooper - and expressing remorse in the documentary Taylor Swift: Miss Americana for not doing more to help Democrat Hillary Clinton beat Trump in 2016. She endorsed Joe Biden via social media in 2020 - though the COVID-19 pandemic and Biden's COVID-conscious campaign strategy meant that celebrity engagement was limited. But the Harris campaign 'dedicated huge resources in the final month to massive rallies with celebrity guests,' the authors noted. 'Harris and Walz said they were bringing joy back to politics, and massive celebrity-filled rallies - Meghan Thee Stallion performed in Atlanta, Maggie Rogers in Ann Arbor, Gracie Abrams and Mumford & Sons in Madison, Wisconsin - were key to that strategy.' Beyonce - who had been rumored to appear alongside Harris at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August - finally hit the campaign trail at a special abortion rights rally in the songstress' hometown of Houston, Texas in late October. 'But privately, some campaign staff raised concerns that the major rallies may not be worth the millions of dollars they cost to stage or the staff investment,' the authors said. 'There was scant evidence that the rallies were persuading voters or necessarily boosting turnout.' Federal Election Commission filings later showed the Harris paid Beyonce's production company, Parkwood Production Media LLC, $165,000 for that event. There were also concerns about some of the celebrity assignments - such as sending Bruce Springsteen, whose fans are predominantly white, to Clarkston, Georgia, where the city's population is 70 percent black and 50 percent foreign-born. 'The predominantly white press corps seemed more interested in Springsteen's performance than the 23,000 mostly black attendees,' the authors wrote. Still, the celeb-filled Harris-Walz campaign carried on. And still no Taylor. In the final hours before Election Day, there was some evidence that a Swift appearance may finally be happening. On Monday, November 4, Harris was heading to Pennsylvania and would door-knock with volunteers in Reading, the closest city to Swift's birthplace. 'Rumors flew that the town's most famous daughter, Taylor Swift, would join Harris there or perform at a last rally in Philadelphia,' the authors said. 'Low-level Harris aides did nothing to tamp down the speculation.' Instead the final night featured performances by 2 Chainz in Raleigh, Christina Aguilera in Las Vegas and Jon Bon Jovi in Detroit, which the authors called 'another head-scratcher for many black voters.' Reprising the role she played in 2016 and 2020, Lady Gaga was the main act for the final event, performing songs in front of the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Emhoff had been told that Swift would do what Swift thought best. 'Nothing more than the endorsement ever materialized,' the authors said. A spokesperson for Swift did not respond to the Daily Mail's request for comment.

Universal's new UK theme park will have four lands as more details emerge
The resort in Bedfordshire is set to open in 2031 following an agreement brokered between the American company, the Government and the local council The hotly anticipated Universal theme park in Bedfordshire will feature four lands and the tallest ride in Europe, it has emerged. More and more details are surfacing about the movie-inspired theme park, which is due to open in 2031 and will be the first Universal park in Europe. When the plans were first confirmed in April this year, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer jubilantly proclaimed: "It's going to put Bedford on the map for millions of people – film lovers, people coming here for fun, people building their careers here." Now, planning documents related to the project reveal that the theme park will have four zones: the Core Zone, Lake Zone, West Gateway Zone, and the East Gateway Zone. The Core Zone is tipped to include the main theme park and a 500-room hotel. The Lake Zone will include a new wetland area and a 2,000-room business hotel, while the East Gateway Zone, is expected to adjoin the planned new Wixams Rail Station. The West Gateway Zone is due to feature an entertainment complex, restaurants, petrol station. The plans describe the theme park as providing guests with the opportunity to 'experience blockbuster attractions, adrenaline-pumping coasters, and mind-blowing spectaculars." It has been rumoured that inspiration for parts of the park could come from Minions, Jaws, and Jurassic Park. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed. Back in April, a source close to the Universal UK project told the BBC that James Bond, Paddington, and The Lord of the Rings are among the brands that could appear at the park. Rides and attractions related to Harry Potter are not expected to be included. Other Universal theme parks feature a variety of themed lands, including: Hollywood, Minion Land, New York, San Francisco, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, World Expo, Springfield, and DreamWorks Land. Planning documents unveiled this month also show that the UK park could have some of the tallest rides in Europe. The American film production and distribution company is considering building structures reaching up to 377 ft (115 m), including rides. 'The reason for proposing structures up to this maximum height is to allow the proposed theme park to compete with other attractions in Europe,' the proposal said. 'Although the Universal Orlando Resort does not currently have attractions up to this height, taller attractions are more common in Europe, where rides need to be taller to create the experience, as space is more constrained.' Currently, Thorpe Park's Hyperia is the tallest and fastest theme park ride in Britain. It sends thrill-seekers up to 72 m and reaches speeds of 80 mph. Red Force, a 367-foot (112 m) rollercoaster at PortAventura World in Spain, is currently the tallest in Europe. The majority of the park's structures will be between 20 and 30 m tall. 'Building attractions that are higher, rather than over greater areas, also makes the best use of land, which is in line with planning policy,' they added. Sir Keir lauded the landmark Universal deal as a promise of "growth, jobs and of course joy to Britain." By 2055, Universal envisions the 476-acre site near Bedford contributing nearly £50 billion to the economy, with plans for a 500-room hotel and a comprehensive retail and entertainment complex accompanying the theme park.
