Govt arms people with meds to make state filariasis free by 27
1 2 Ranchi: State health, food supplies, and disaster management minister Irfan Ansari launched the mass drug administration (MDA) campaign against filariasis from Jamtara on Sunday. The drive aims to administer DEC, albendazole, and ivermectin to 1.27 crore people out of an identified 1.42 crore population in 80 targeted blocks across nine districts — Chatra, Godda, West Singhbhum, Seraikela, Hazaribag, Jamtara, Palamu, Latehar, and Dumka. Consuming the filariasis-preventive medicine on stage, Ansari said, "I have taken the medicine, you should too. We must make Jharkhand filariasis-free by 2027." The campaign aims to ensure that no eligible individual misses the dose, and fulfil the vision of a healthy and capable state. Exemptions apply for children under two years of age, pregnant women, and those with severe illnesses. Trained health workers would administer age-appropriate doses either at booths or through door-to-door visits, he added. Additional director and state programme officer for vector-borne diseases, Dr Birendra Kumar Singh, said, "The success of the MDA drive depends on coordinated efforts with departments including education, ICDS, Panchayati Raj, urban development, drinking water and sanitation, livelihood, and PHED." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Japanese AI invention allows you to speak 68 languages instantly. RIMS recruitment to be conducted afresh
1 2 Jaipur: Medical education department has said recruitment for Rajasthan Institute of Health Sciences (RIMS) will be conducted afresh and only those candidates who qualify will be appointed as medical faculty at RIMS. The department does not plan to absorb all existing RUHS medical faculty into RIMS. It said that since RIMS aims to be a premier medical institution in the state, medical faculty will not be permitted to engage in private practice and will receive a non-practice allowance (NPA). "The faculty that will be selected for RIMS will be totally dedicated to RIMS only. Private practice will be completely banned. They will get a non-practice allowance for not performing private practice. It is being done as we are developing RIMS on the lines of AIIMS, Delhi, where private practice of doctors is completely banned," Ambrish Kumar, secretary, Medical Education, told TOI. He said that to develop RIMS, AIIMS Delhi is helping the Rajasthan govt. "The state govt has prepared a MoU which has been sent to AIIMS Delhi for implementation. It focuses on help from AIIMS Delhi for developing RIMS," he said. RIMS will be developed by upgrading RUHS Medical College and Hospital. The procedure and eligibility criteria will be fixed under the proposed Act for RIMS. The decision, however, has fuelled concern among the existing medical faculty at RUHS, with the existing crop seeking an assurance from govt that they will be accommodated at RIMS. Currently, 45 medical faculty have been employed at RUHS since 2013. However, they now fear being transferred to other medical institutions once RIMS is established. One RUHS medical faculty member, speaking to TOI on condition of anonymity, said that for the development of RIMS, the govt is taking the building of RUHS Hospital and Medical College, but they should also take the teaching faculty who are already working in RUHS to accommodate them in RIMS. He said various laws pertaining to institutes across the country, in which an existing institute is upgraded to a higher institute, involve merging or absorbing all pre-existing faculty and workers into the new institute. Quacks charge 25k per snakebite case
Hazaribag: Quacks of the district charge between Rs 5,000 and Rs 25,000 in lizard and snakebite cases. The family members of a woman of Katkamdag block, bitten by a russels' viper, took her to a quack, who wasted the one-hour golden period that is vital to save the lives of snakebite patients. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now They took her to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, from where she was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. The woman was kept on ventilator for five days and declared dead on June 28. Speaking to TOI, the woman's relatives said when her condition deteriorated in Rims, they again contacted the quack, who agreed to treat her over phone. The call was made to her attendant at Rims, who kept the phone on speaker mode near the ear of the patient. At the other side, the quack kept whispering some words on phone for five minutes. This continued for three days till her condition worsened and doctors put her on ventilator. The quack charged Rs 25,000 for his work. In 2018, eight-year-old Shivam Kumar of Katkamdag died of rabies after his family members took him to a quack instead of a health centre for a dog bite. Former deputy superintendent of the Hazaribag sadar hospital, Dr Vijay Shankar, said, "The first hour after the bite is vital to save a patient's life. A bite by a russels' viper triggers multifocal toxicity through dynamic changes in the levels of coagulation factors. People should realise this fact and take the patient to the nearest government hospital." A quack, unwilling to be identified, said that they have the power to cure snakebites. However, he refused to give details, claiming that they don't waste their valuable time in discussing their treatment with urban residents.
