Jason Kelce calls Travis Kelce most 'unique' tight end ever

Yahoo2 days ago
Travis Kelce is a lot of things: a future Hall of Fame tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, a holder of 12 NFL records, a "New Neights" podcast co-host and, of course, Taylor Swift's boyfriend.
In a recent GQ profile of Kelce, his brother, Jason Kelce, added one more identifier to the list.
"There will be arguments about him versus Gronk, versus Tony Gonzalez, but I don't think anybody has ever been as unique of a player in that spot," Jason said.
To Jason's point, Travis is truly 1-of-1 in several statistical categories. In the Chiefs' two most recent playoff runs, the tight end broke three of legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice's NFL postseason records. He now stands alone as the NFL record-holder for career postseason receptions (172), career postseason 100-yard games (9) and career Super Bowl receptions (35).
TRAVIS KELCE: Chiefs TE gushes over Taylor Swift in GQ story: 'We're just two people that are in love'
Jason and former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith talked more about Travis' intelligence and uniqueness as a person and player throughout the article.
The elder Kelce brother spoke about a "Travis Moment" from their childhood, when he put together a full Erector set without reading the instructions while Jason and their father, Ed, were still reading them.
Smith brought up examples of Travis' ball knowledge from early in the tight end's career, mentioning how he would add his own improvisational tweaks to routes to get open.
"Every single pass play, wherever I was going, whatever the concept intended for me to throw, whatever defensive look I was getting, it didn't matter: Travis was open," Smith told GQ. "He was supposed to turn out, but on this one he flipped in, and he was open. He always put his little twist on it, and it worked."
Smith pointed to one specific example of Kelce changing a route from a fake shallow cross with a cut back to a real shallow cross with a hesitation step before carrying on when he saw his defender didn't buy the fake.
"This is an NFL game!" Smith said. "We had never talked about this! This was not remotely a possibility for him when we installed this play! It turned into a 35-yard gain. This is the brilliance of Kelce."

LA 2028 to sell venue name rights in Olympic first

Organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will sell naming rights for some competition venues to "unlock an additional revenue stream" in a move that breaks with Games tradition of forbidding brand names on stadiums and arenas. In a statement released on Thursday, LA28 organizers said the "landmark change" will apply to featured venues in support of the "largest commercial revenue raise in sports". "From the moment we submitted our bid, LA28 committed to reimagining what's possible for the Games," LA28 chairperson and president Casey Wasserman said in a statement. "Today's historic announcement delivers on that promise, creating the first-ever venue naming rights program in Olympic and Paralympic history while advancing LA28's mission of a fully privately funded and no-new-build Games." Contracts are already in place with automaker Honda, an LA28 sponsor which already has the naming rights for the Anaheim, California, arena that will host volleyball, and with media and technology company Comcast -- which will have its name on the temporary squash venue. As previously announced, Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles will host boxing and weightlifting. Wasserman said the "groundbreaking partnerships" will generate revenue beyond what is already budgeted and "will introduce a new commercial model to benefit the entire (Olympic) movement". "We're grateful to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for making this transformation possible," he added. Naming rights for up to 19 temporary venues will be available, with the IOC's sponsorship partners and LA28 partners having a chance to put their names on Games venues. Companies that already have their names on such Olympic venues as SoFi Stadium and Arena "will have the opportunity to keep existing venue naming rights during Games time", Wasserman indicated. "Clean venue" policies that prohibit advertising on the field of play will still apply. bb/nf

Atletico Madrid and Juventus open surprise talks over double deal

Atletico Madrid were expected to do little more business in the transfer market, but with the La Liga kick-off a little over 24 hours away, Los Colchoneros are now involved in talks with Juventus over two players. The word coming from the Metropolitano was that Los Rojiblancos would not be doing any more business this summer unless there were exits, beyond that of forward Carlos Martin. However two reports have emerged out of the blue. Discussions for Nicolas Gonzalez Matteo Moretto has reported that Atletico Madrid have opened talks for Juventus winger Nicolas Gonzalez, in a move that could be a permanent deal. The Argentina international is not a key part of Juventus' plans, just a season after arriving at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. The Biaconeri spent €36.5m on Gonzalez over the course of his loan and permanent move from Fiorentina. The 27-year-old is open to the move. Juventus interested in Nahuel Molina Image viaMeanwhile less than an hour apart, German Garcia Grova of TyC Sports has assured that La Vecchia Signora have also opened talks with Atletico for right-back Nahuel Molina. He was linked with an exit earlier in the window, and has a deal until 2027. Garcia explains that Gonzalez is an option that has been discussed as a result of Juve not meeting Atletico's asking price. Surprise moves for Atletico Madrid Last month it seemed as if Molina would be on his way out, but more recently it had been reported that Los Rojiblancos were happy to hold onto him. Similarly, in the final third, Giacomo Raspadori's signing from Napoli was thought to be their last bit of business excepting a departure. It may well be that Diego Simeone sees both Molina and Gonzalez as right wing-backs or midfielders, rather than right-backs, which from a squad planning perspective could make more sense.

The biggest revelations from Taylor Swift's 2-hour podcast debut

Taylor Swift's two-hour podcast debut, on boyfriend Travis Kelce's 'New Heights,' was chock-full of sweet nothings and tales from the stars' love story as well as other peeks behind the curtain of the world's busiest showgirl. The highly anticipated episode of Kelce's podcast with big brother Jason dropped Wednesday evening and, as of Thursday morning, has been viewed over 9.5 million times. Here are the biggest revelations shared by the 35-year-old Grammy winner outside of announcing her 12th studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Easter eggs only ever nod to the professional. Swifties know all too well that the 'cardigan' crooner has a penchant for dispensing clues to fans through every available avenue — be it day-to-day fashion, lyrics and music video visuals. But, contrary to the hopes of Swift's ardent fans, she clarified that she'll only ever lay so-called Easter eggs to refer to music or other projects, never her personal life. She did confirm that the orange door she walked through on the last night of the Eras Tour was indeed a nod to the color scheme of 'The Life of a Showgirl.' Swift recorded her upcoming album between Eras Tour shows. Swift didn't come out of her hiatus to record her upcoming album. Rather, she reunited with 'Red' and '1989' collaborators Max Martin and Shellback in Sweden amid the European leg of the Eras Tour to do so. Swift confirmed that it was an 'electric' time in her life — probably as much to do with the record-breaking tour as her then-nascent relationship with Kelce — and the album reflects just that. Swift's parents are both recovering from surgery. Both Scott and Andrea Swift are nicely recovering from what Swift joked were 'upgrades' this summer. The pop star's father underwent a quintuple bypass and is sprightly as ever — even if he did spend crucial recovery hours FaceTiming friends instead of sleeping, per the doctor's orders — while her mom got a knee replacement and is similarly on the mend, though maybe with less zest. Swift and Kelce all but confirmed they live together, multiple times. Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, also 35, repeatedly referred to hearing each other from across the house or the other room, including when Swift finally regained the masters of her first six albums. She recalls the Super Bowl champ was playing video games when she called out for him, announced the happy news and collapsed into his arms. The battle for the masters was a family affair. Swift detailed the intricacies of trying to buy her masters, a years-long plight that used to be a daily 'intrusive thought.' Though not necessarily a priority for all artists, Swift said procuring full ownership has always been a goal of hers and now that she finally achieved that earlier this year — thanks to her mom and brother appealing to the venture capital firm, Shamrock — she's grateful every day. Swift lurks on sourdough bread blogs The pop superstar revealed that she has a new baking obsession about twice a year. Now in the thick of a devotion to sourdough bread, Swift confessed that she lurks on blogs devoted to it — one upside to the internet she'll concede while saying she largely stays off social media and never reads her DMs.
