UMNO to consider motion to revoke Hishammuddin's suspension
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was the party leadership's tradition and practice to examine any motion submitted by UMNO divisions during their respective delegates' meetings.
'This is a motion brought by one of the 191 UMNO divisions nationwide.
'Like other divisions, the motion will be submitted to the UMNO headquarters to be studied and considered before any decision is made,' he told reporters after officiating the Batu Pahat UMNO Division Delegates' Meeting at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim here today.
Khaled, who is also Defence Minister, said UMNO had yet to receive an appeal from the former senior national leader, but stressed that the motion would still be reviewed and considered.
'For now, there is only a motion, and we will consider it. Whether the individual concerned (Hishammuddin) has submitted an appeal or not, I don't wish to comment further,' he said.
Yesterday, the Sembrong UMNO Division passed a motion for the immediate and unconditional revocation of Hishammuddin's suspension.
Sembrong UMNO Division chief Datuk Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid said this was the second year in a row the motion had been proposed by the division, reflecting the majority of delegates' wishes to see Hishammuddin return to active party involvement.
For the record, Hishammuddin was suspended from UMNO membership for six years, effective January 27, 2023.
Meanwhile, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party was open to receiving and discussing the motion at the next UMNO Supreme Council meeting.
'UMNO is an open party, and we've received many appeals from party leaders that have been accepted by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In this matter, I will receive and consider any motions submitted,' he told reporters after officiating the Rompin UMNO Delegates' Meeting in Muadzam Shah, Pahang today.
Asked about several MCA divisions that had submitted motions calling for the dissolution of Barisan Nasional (BN) during the party's annual general meeting, Asyraf urged component parties to remain patient and to make decisions that were more realistic and practical.
'All the component parties have incumbent seats, and we must ensure that we retain the 30 seats we already hold... If we aim to win more, we must negotiate with the top leadership to discuss this. UMNO is very open to discussions on the matter,' he added.
Yesterday, the media reported that MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party's top leadership would take into account grassroots feedback before deciding on the party's future direction.
Commenting on the same issue in KUALA KANGSAR, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the matter must be brought to the UMNO Supreme Council (MKT) meeting for discussion with other council members before any decision is made.
'Let the proposal go to the Supreme Council meeting, I will give my comment then,' he said when met at the Dialog@KPK programme with the Minister of Plantation and Commodities at the Indian Association Hall here today.

URIMAI interim deputy chairman David Marshel has dismissed claims by activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, that the recent appointment of Datuk M Kumar as Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director was tied to DAP's 'Malaysian Malaysia' agenda. David stressed that the Federal Court appointment was based solely on merit, professionalism, and competence, not race, religion, or political influence. 'It is impossible for the Kerajaan Madani to accept the 'Malaysian Malaysia' concept through this appointment, as DAP itself has long abandoned it,' he said in a statement. He pointed out that DAP had shifted from 'Malaysian Malaysia' to 'Middle Malaysia' and later to 'Malaysia Baharu', arguing these slogans were merely political tools for the party to remain in power and avoid addressing injustice. David urged Chegubard to retract what he described as a false and misleading statement, stressing that DAP does not fight for senior federal positions to serve the Indian or Chinese communities. Instead, he accused the party of siding with Malay leaders in UMNO to secure political survival. He also underlined that Malaysia's Indian and Chinese communities continue to respect the Federal Constitution, uphold the spirit of Malaysia, and remain committed to national service. Chegubard has 'congratulated' Kumar on his appointment as the new director of the CID – a post he described as one of the most powerful after the inspector-general of police. But his so-called praise was laced with heavy sarcasm, aimed squarely at UMNO and the Anwar-led government. In a Facebook post, he claimed the appointment — 'supposedly made on merit, without racial considerations' — proved that Malaysia was now openly embracing the DAP's long-controversial 'Malaysian Malaysia' concept, where Malays and non-Malays are deemed equal for any position. Invoking the 1967 Setapak Declaration, Chegubard sneered that what UMNO once demonised, it now silently accepts. He pointed to past appointments, like the first non-bumiputra lieutenant general, and mocked the current regime for 'successfully' moving the nation from 'race-based' to 'need-based' policies. Turning the knife further, he quipped that this trend would soon clear the path for non-Malays to become chief justice, armed forces chief, inspector-general of police, and even prime minister. Sabah polls: Umno, BN seat allocation under negotiation committee
SEREMBAN: The number of seats to be contested by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno in the upcoming Sabah election will depend on the formula to be decided by the negotiation committee with Pakatan Harapan (PH). BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the coalition had appointed the BN secretary-general and the Umno secretary-general to hold discussions with its unity government counterparts on seat negotiations. He added that, so far, BN and PH had agreed to work together in the election, but his party remained open to other options and possible cooperation with different parties. "It is up to the negotiation committee to decide on the formula and the number of seats that Umno and BN will contest. "I hope a decision can be reached soon, as the election is drawing near. "This matter is also important so that our machinery clearly understands the party's direction in facing the Sabah poll," he told reporters here today. It was reported that efforts to form an electoral pact among BN, PH and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for the state election, expected this October, appeared increasingly difficult as seat allocation negotiations remained deadlocked. Yesterday, Wanita GRS chief Datuk Seri Azizah Dun stressed that the Sabah-based political coalition, comprising eight component parties, would defend the 39 seats it had previously won. Meanwhile, Mohamad, who is also foreign minister, stressed that Umno and BN would remain firm in contesting the seats they had won in the previous election, as well as reclaiming those given to Bersatu. "The seats we gave to Bersatu will be taken back, because during the last Sabah election, we surrendered traditional seats to the party on the understanding that we were together. Zahid: Don't take members from coalition partners
SHAH ALAM: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has verbally reminded Unity Government parties to uphold the convention of not accepting members from other component parties. Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, said a protest note was being prepared to be sent to parties that have admitted Umno members. "The protest note is a decision of the Umno Supreme Council. We have long stated that parties in the Unity Government should not accept members from other component parties. "This must be respected; it is a convention that should be honoured by every party in the coalition. "The note is being prepared, but I have already conveyed this verbally to the respective party presidents," he said. Zahid, who is the deputy prime minister, told reporters this after attending the 16th National Civil Defence Student Corps Commissioning ceremony. His comments follow news that Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz had his application to join PKR accepted. Zafrul resigned as an Umno Supreme Council member and Kota Raja division chief on May 30. Earlier, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party would submit protest notes to coalition partners that had admitted or planned to admit former Umno members. He said the move was a stern warning to safeguard ties within the Unity Government. Asyraf said the decision was made at the Supreme Council meeting held on Aug 13.
