Shashank Singh left Shreyas Iyer furious after his poor running during a high-stakes Qualifier 1 clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians.
Shreyas Iyer played the starring role as Punjab Kings recovered from an abject defeat in the first qualifier to edge past Mumbai Indians on Sunday night and punch their ticket for the IPL 2025 final. Iyer, the PBKS captain, slammed an unbeaten 87 off 41 in a successful chase of 204 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
While he looked incredibly calm after hitting the match-winning six, avoiding exaggerated celebrations, he did lose his cool after spotting teammate Shashank Singh during the ritual post-match handshake.
Iyer fired expletives at Shashank and asked his teammate to not engage with him.
Bsdk muh mat lagna mere bc. Blud Shreyas Iyer literally said to Shashank Singh 😭🤣 pic.twitter.com/tnMyPKVrda — Professor Sahab (@ProfesorSahab) June 1, 2025
So what triggered the reaction?
Well, Shashank had a major role.
With PBKS seemingly taking control of the chase as the contest entered the death overs, Shashank ended up taking it too easy as was evident when he jogged for a single that resulted in him being run out and thus giving MI an opening.
The dismissal happened off the fourth delivery of the 17th over as PBKS needed 35 to win off 21 deliveries with six wickets remaining. Having driven a low full toss from Trent Boult to mid-on, Shashank was ambling towards the non-striker's end with an alert Hardik Pandya spotted the opportunity and made a direct hit.
TV umpire was pressed into action and one replay was enough to conclude Shashank, despite his late reaction to speed up, was well short of his crease.
However, Iyer, in red-hot form, ensured the dismissal didn't shift the momentum as he singlehandedly took PBKS over the line. This is the first time that PBKS have qualified for the final since 2014 when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and were known as Kings XI Punjab.
PBKS will now have just a day to recover from the contest that went late into the night thanks to a rain-delayed start before facing a red-hot RCB in the title clash at the same venue.

Thiruvananthapuram Likely To Replace Bengaluru As A Venue For Women's ODI World Cup 2025; Heres Why

The Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is likely to replace Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as a venue for the upcoming 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, set to be played from September 30 to November 2. Sources aware of the development have told IANS that the Karnataka government not granting permission for hosting games at the stadium due to serious safety concerns on any activity at the venue after the June 4 stampede has meant that its allotted matches for the Women's ODI World Cup will now be moved to Thiruvananthapuram. 'Yes, it has come to light that due to no permissions coming on time for hosting World Cup games in Bengaluru, it will now be moving to Thiruvananthapuram, which is also an ideal venue due to weather conditions and its proximity to Colombo. The ICC will be officially announcing it soon,' sources further told IANS on Tuesday. Uncertainty over future matches taking place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has persisted since the June 4 stampede outside its premises during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory celebrations. The incident led to 11 deaths and over 50 people being injured, with the investigation still ongoing. Moreover, the findings by the Justice John Michael D'Cunha Commission had said that the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is ill-equipped to host large-scale events in a safe manner. While saying that the 'design and structure' of the venue are inherently 'unsuitable and unsafe' for mass gatherings, the committee also warned that hosting high-attendance events at the stadium would pose 'unacceptable risks to public safety, urban mobility, and emergency preparedness'. Due to this, the KSCA was forced to shift Maharaja T20 Trophy games to Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru while Alur hosted the Maharani T20 competition matches. As per the original schedule, Bengaluru was the venue for the opening game of the women's ODI World Cup between India and Sri Lanka, as well as host one semi-final and possibly the final on November 2. Bengaluru was also set to host two warm-up games ahead of the showpiece event. The Greenfield International Stadium, meanwhile, hasn't hosted women's international cricket games yet. But it has hosted four men's T20Is and two ODI games so far, as well as staged Youth Tests and ODIs. It was also a venue for the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup warm-ups, but games were abandoned due to incessant rain. Visakhapatnam, Indore, Guwahati, and Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital, are the other venues for the tournament to be played in a round-robin format among eight teams – defending champions Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. The 2025 Women's ODI World Cup will also be the first women's global cricket event in the sub-continent since India hosted the 2016 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. India has also staged the Women's ODI World Cup in 1978, 1997, and 2013, respectively.

Ex-AUS All-Rounder Includes 2 RR Stars In His List Of Top-3 Teenagers In World Cricket

Last Updated: Of those two teenagers, one is India's 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and the other one is 19-year-old South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius. Former all-rounder Kerry O'Keeffe, who played 24 Tests and two ODIs for Australia from January 1971 to August 1977, included two players from Rajasthan Royals' IPL 2025 squad in his list of top-three teenagers in world cricket. Of those two teenagers, one is India's 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and the other one is 19-year-old South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius. Pretorius was signed by Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for Nitish Rana, and the young left-handed wicketkeeper-batter played one match for the Sanju Samson-led side in the world's richest franchise cricket league this year. Overall, he has played two Tests and seven T20Is for the Proteas and has one century and one fifty to his name in Test cricket and one half-century in T20Is. Kerry was impressed with Pretorius's batting in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series between South Africa and Australia. During the match played at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Tuesday (August 12), where the 19-year-old scored 10 runs from 10 balls, which included one six off Glenn Maxwell's batting, Kerry, while commentating, said, 'He asked me to name the best three teenagers in world cricket at the moment, and I had a look at a few of them, and I had Pretorius inside the trifecta behind Suryavanshi – the 14-year-old Indian – and Thomas Rew – the 17-year-old Englishman. When I watch tapes of Lhuan-dre Pretorius, I think he's inside the top three. When he's going, it's a sight." The third player in Kerry's list is 17-year-old English batter Thomas Rew. Rew has played four List A matches so far and has scored 181 runs. His batting average is 60.33, and his strike rate is 93.29. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rajasthan Royals' Post On Sanju Samson Viral Amid Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders Trade Rumours

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Sanju Samson has been in the news of late, having reportedly expressed his desire to leave the franchise ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Cricbuzz recently reported that the differences between the two parties is so severed that the cricketer's family is openly saying that Samson does not want to continue with RR. "Serious differences have cropped up between Sanju Samson and the Royals management - so much so that the designated captain has formally requested to be traded or released into the auction," the report stated. "Members of Samson's family openly say that he no longer wishes to continue with the Royals. Some current IPL and international players close to him also indicate that his relationship with the franchise has not exactly been the way it used to be." Despite the rumours, Samson has remained tight-lipped over his future. During a recent interaction with former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, Samson laughed off the rumours and credited RR for playing a major role in shaping his career. Recently, RR took to social media and shared a post quoting Samson remark. "RR means the world to me," Samson had said on Ashwin's YouTube channel a few days back. — Rajasthan Royals (@rajasthanroyals) August 10, 2025 Reports have claimed that Samson has requested for a direct trade or a release ahead of the next IPL auction. Franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been linked to Samson in recent weeks. Samson, who was one of the five players retained by RR ahead of the mega auction, missed the majority of IPL 2025 due to an injury. RR crashed to a ninth-place finish in IPL 2025, which saw Riyan Parag captain the team on multiple occasions in Samson's absence. If Samson does leave RR, it would bring an end to their 11-year association.
