Marcos confident P20-per-kilo rice is sustainable as production increases
Speaking in a new episode of the BBM Podcast, the President explained that as rice production continues to rise, the cost of production decreases—allowing the National Food Authority (NFA) to sell rice at lower prices.
'Since our production is already going up, the cost of production will decrease. That means the NFA can sell at even lower prices,' Marcos said in Filipino.
He emphasized that the government is supporting this effort by providing more farming equipment and enhancing irrigation systems. Marcos also assured farmers that the buying price of palay (unhusked rice) will not be reduced despite cheaper market prices for rice.
'We have to support them. Whatever happens to the retail price of rice, we won't lower the NFA's buying price,' he added.
Marcos acknowledged that the rollout of his campaign promise took time, as the government had to ensure support mechanisms were in place for farmers.
The Department of Agriculture initially launched the P20-per-kilo rice in the Visayas, targeting vulnerable groups through the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program. These include indigents, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and minimum wage earners.
The program's second phase will begin in July in Mindanao. Marcos also revealed plans for the national government to fully shoulder the program's cost next year, replacing local government contributions.
'Eventually, I'm looking at a proposal that by next year, the contribution will come entirely from the national government,' he said.

Thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from various parts of the United Arab Emirates flocked to the Dubai World Trade Centre for the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo: OFW Serbisyo Caravan, a large-scale event aimed at bringing Philippine government services closer to Filipino communities abroad. Organized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the initiative follows the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to streamline and improve access to public services for OFWs. The event was held in collaboration with various agencies such as OWWA, PSA, Pag-IBIG, SSS, DSWD, PAO, DTI-PTIC, and the Philippine Consulate in Dubai. From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., attendees were able to avail of services including contract verification, legal assistance, housing and financial services, and welfare programs from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO). For many, the caravan served as a one-stop shop to address pressing personal and employment concerns without having to return to the Philippines. Frankie Pangilinan rules out entering politics
Singer and online personality Frankie Pangilinan said she has no plans to enter politics, despite being vocal about national issues in the past. In an interview with Boy Abunda, Pangilinan, daughter of Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan and actress Sharon Cuneta, clarified that political engagement does not equate to political ambition. 'I understood suddenly ganun pala ang mga tao actually. Tuwing nagiging politically involved, ibig sabihin may ambition… may interes at least, and I never was that kind of person,' she pointed out. Pangilinan said her comments on political and social issues come from genuine concern as a Filipino citizen, not from any desire to follow her parents' footsteps in public service. 'It is really just tao pong Pilipino na nais pong magbago ang mga problema sa Pilipinas and I think that's just really just it, bilang mamamayang Pilipino and hindi po bilang anak ng sino man,' she added. She also shared that she had to take a step back from social media after realizing the weight of her platform. While many young people use social media freely, she said she had to reassess her role online. 'It is more of like realizing I didn't want to be the mouthpiece of movements that I shouldn't be the mouthpiece for,' Pangilinan said. Despite stepping back, Pangilinan stressed that she will continue to speak out when necessary, though more selectively.
