Neeraj Chopra shares how a freak injury almost denied him a medal-laden javelin throw career
Olympic and World Champion
Neeraj Chopra
has revealed that an early injury once left doctors uncertain whether he'd ever be able to throw a javelin again. In a recent video posted on Duolingo's Instagram handle, the athlete reflected on a wrist fracture he sustained not during training, but while playing on a basketball court.
'It was an injury when I was not even training,' Neeraj shared. 'I was doing mischief. I was holding the basketball ring while jumping and fell suddenly. My wrist was fractured and it had to be in plaster for a long time. It was the same hand that I used to throw the javelin.'

The injury, he said, was more serious than it appeared. Doctors were initially unsure if he would regain full functionality, let alone return to competitive sport.
'At that time, I felt like I would never be able to do it,' he admitted.
Despite the bleak situation, Neeraj credited his mindset and dream of representing India for helping him push through. 'As soon as I started feeling better, I knew I had to do it again. It was my dream that kept my mindset strong.'
Now an Olympic gold medallist and world champion, Neeraj shared this story as part of a broader message to students and young athletes. He urged them to stay strong in the face of setbacks and not lose sight of their goals.

Chris Jones breaks silence on love life post-breakup (Getty Images) Kansas City Chiefs defensive star Chris Jones , known for his explosive presence on the field, is revealing a far more vulnerable side off it. During a lighthearted training camp interview, the 31-year-old defensive tackle shared a surprisingly heartfelt goal from his bucket list: 'I just wanna be married, I just wanna be loved.' Chris Jones shares hopes for marriage and future with someone new Jones' tender revelation was posted on the Chiefs' official TikTok account, drawing attention not just for its sincerity but also for its timing. The video surfaced four months after Weathersby's Instagram post accused Jones of infidelity and confirmed their nine-year relationship had ended 'months ago.' — BSO (@BSO) 'I'm choosing to focus on the positive as I close this chapter on a 9-year relationship,' she wrote. Weathersby's post also described unsettling harassment from the other woman, claiming, 'This is especially troubling given her history of harassment, stalking and disrespect towards me… This behavior has forced me to change my number and has forced Chris to ask her multiple times to please leave me alone and respect our coparenting dynamic.' Tom Brady slams Scottie Scheffler for choosing fatherhood over glory, says greatness doesn't wait for diapers
Tom Brady was critical of golfer Scottie Scheffler for prioritizing his family over his sporting career (Getty Images) In a headline-grabbing moment, NFL icon Tom Brady stirred debate across the sports world by calling out world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler for putting family ahead of his professional ambitions. Speaking via his website, Brady reflected on his own mindset during his record-setting football career, highlighting a very different philosophy on what it means to provide for loved ones. Tom Brady questions Scheffler 's priorities and defends his own path to greatness Tom Brady has stirred controversy once again—this time by taking aim at PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler's decision to prioritize family life during peak competition. In a candid reflection, Brady questioned whether true greatness can coexist with parenthood, igniting a heated debate about sacrifice, legacy, and what defines a champion. "Scottie said he would rather be a better father and husband than a good golfer," Brady noted. "I think by prioritizing my profession and leading by example I was doing the best thing for my family." Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer, suggested that being a great parent includes showing children what sacrifice, focus, and relentless ambition look like. 'Part of being a great father is setting a great example of doing whatever it takes to take care of the family. I chose to do that by playing football.' Tom Brady says family and success aren't mutually exclusive For Brady, the conversation isn't about either/or. He emphasized that family and career goals can—and should—coexist as part of a broader life structure. 'Both are connected, why are they mutually exclusive?' he questioned. 'My dedication to the sport, the hours of training, the moments of total concentration; those were moments when I think I was doing my best for my family and my children.' He also challenged the widely held idea that being present physically is the only mark of a good parent: "Reading them bedtime stories and helping them with homework is not the only way to be a good parent." Brady's comments raise broader questions about how society defines success and balance. In a time when athletes like Scheffler are praised for choosing family first, Brady's stance reflects a traditional, results-first mentality: 'When the priority is to take care of your career... that's what you do.' Also Read: 'Aggression all the time': Gisele Bündchen's concussion claim raised new questions about Tom Brady's health and NFL transparency Whether people agree with him or not, Brady has reignited a polarizing conversation about legacy, family, and the sacrifices behind greatness.
