DHARMASTHALA: On its third day of the exhumation operation, Special Investigation Team Thursday unearthed partial skeletal remains - suspected to be of a man - from the sixth of 13 alleged burial sites identified by a 50-year-old complainant in Dharmasthala.

The
, probing the complainant's allegations of hush-hush mass burials in the town, recovered a PAN and a debit card each from the first site exhumed Tuesday.
The partial remains, discovered in a forested area near Netravathi river, included 15 bones - some broken - but no skull, officials said.
A forensic doctor at the site offered a preliminary opinion that the bones were from a male individual, though a final confirmation awaits a full forensic examination.
"Forensic doctors and the scene-of-crime officers seized the body parts after noting down the details, including the location and the way the parts were found," an SIT official said. Puttur sub-division assistant commissioner Stella Verghese was present during the search.
The
was traced to Suresh of Nelamangala in Bengaluru Rural district, who had died of jaundice in March 2025 and was cremated in his village. "The deceased was an alcoholic," an SIT official said, adding he may have lost the card during a prior visit to Dharmasthala.
Bank yet to provide women's details
The SIT had earlier exhumed five sites based on the complainant's inputs but found no human remains over the past two days.
The digging of a sixth site began Thursday morning with equipment including a mini-earthmover, water pump, pipes and rain covers.
A dog squad was deployed. The skeletal remains, found about 4ft deep, were secured under heavy security and the area was later cordoned off.
The complainant, a former sanitation worker, claims he was coerced to bury over 100 bodies - mostly of women and minors - in Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014.

He had led the SIT to 13 suspected burial locations, starting July 28, near the bathing ghat.
While searching the first site, officials had recovered a PAN card belonging to a man and a RuPay debit card belonging to a woman. "The bank is yet to provide us with her details and cross-verification of her whereabouts is still under way," officials said. However, sources said the debit card belongs to the deceased mother.
Meanwhile, investigation gained momentum with the inclusion of nine more senior officers.
The team is expected to resume digging at the remaining sites Friday under the supervision of SP Jitendra Kumar Dayama and other senior officers.
As the news broke, advocate Manjunath N, representing Sujatha Bhat - mother of missing 2003 medical student Ananya Bhat - issued a statement: "Satyameva Jayate."
The SIT has opened an office at the IB in Mallikatte, Mangaluru, for the public to share any information between 10am and 5pm. They have also set up a helpline: 0824-2005301, 8277986369; email: sitdps@ksp.gov.in.

Prajwal Revanna, former Janata Dal (Secular) MP from Hassan and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's grandson, has been convicted in a rape case by the Special Court of Sessions for criminal cases against former and present MPs and MLAs. Prajwal has three rape cases and one sexual harrasment case against him and this is the first case in which trial has been completed. The victim in the case is a 48-year-old former help at the Revanna family's farmhouse in Gannikada, Hassan. Arguments over quantum of punishment are ongoing. The punishment is likely to be announced on Saturday. The trial in the rape case against Prajwal started in the Special Court of Sessions for criminal cases against former and present MPs and MLAs on May 2, 2025, and the trial was completed on July 18 with daily hearings in just over two months. While the orders were reserved for July 30, the judge adjourned the verdict to Friday, seeking clarification on mobile location data and other technical evidence. Senior advocates Ashok Nayak and B.N. Jagadeesha were special public prosecutors in the case. Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat presided over the trial. Special public prosecutor Ashok Nayak told reporters that the prosecution examined 26 witnesses and submitted 180 documents. 'The main evidence is of the victim, a lady, it was a very very convincing one...' He also noted that the trial was considered fast, concluding after 38 adjournments. 'It is victory for the victim... I also congratulate the SIT team, we relied not only on the oral evidence, but also the digital evidence, technical evidence, DNA report, FSL report. The clothes worn by the victim during the rape were also identified and the Investigation Officer (IO) was successful in seizing the clothes even after three-four years. Also, digital evidence played a role as the accused himself had recorded the video....' he added. The court has convicted Prajwal Revanna on all counts, accepting the prosecution's case, Additional SPP B.N. Jagadeesha said. 'Clinching evidence is the victim's evidence, coupled with digital evidence available in this case.' The SIT filed a 1,632-page chargesheet with 113 witnesses in the case in September 2024. Prajwal was booked under Sections 376(2)(k) (being in a position of control or dominance over a woman, commits rape on such woman), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape on the same woman) of the Indian Penal Code, and 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, among other sections. The chargesheet alleges that the victim was raped by the accused twice in 2021 — once at the family's Hassan residence and a few days later at the family's Bengaluru residence in Basavanagudi. The accused allegedly recorded the video in the first instance. In the video, recovered by the SIT, the victim is reportedly seen resisting the advances and crying and breaking down. Though Prajwal's face is not visible in the video, forensic analysis report indicates that it was him in the video. Moreover, the victim had kept her saris in a wardrobe where she was working and analysis found Prajwal's DNA on one of them. These form key evidences in the case, sources said. Loan 'fraud': Enforcement Directorate summons Anil Ambani for questioning on August 5 The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani for questioning on August 5 in an alleged loan fraud-linked money laundering case against his group companies, official sources said on Friday. Ambani, 66, has been asked to depose at the ED headquarters in Delhi as the case has been registered here, the sources said. The agency will record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) once he deposes, they said. The summons come after the federal agency conducted searches against multiple companies and executives of his business group last week. The searches, launched on July 24, went on for three days. The action pertains to alleged financial irregularities and collective loan 'diversion' of more than ₹10,000 crore by multiple group companies of Ambani. The searches had covered more than 35 premises in Mumbai, and they belonged to 50 companies and 25 people, including a number of executives of the Anil Ambani Group companies. ED sources had said the investigation primarily pertains to allegations of illegal loan diversion of around ₹3,000 crore, given by the Yes Bank to the group companies of Ambani between 2017-2019. Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure, two companies of the group, had informed the stock exchanges saying while they acknowledge the action, the raids had 'absolutely no impact' on their business operations, financial performance, shareholders, employees or any other stakeholders. 'The media reports appear to pertain to allegations concerning transactions of Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) or Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL) which are over 10 years old,' the companies had said. The ED, the sources had said, has found that just before the loan was granted, Yes Bank promoters 'received' money in their concerns. The agency is investigating this nexus of 'bribe' and the loan. The sources said the ED is also probing allegations of 'gross violations' in Yes Bank loan approvals to these companies, including charges such as back-dated credit approval memorandums and investments proposed without any due diligence/credit analysis in violation of the bank's credit policy. The loans are alleged to have been 'diverted' to many group companies and 'shell' (bogus) companies by the entities involved. The agency is also looking at some instances of loans given to entities with weak financials, a lack of proper documentation of loans and due diligence, borrowers having common addresses and common directors in their companies, etc., the sources said. The money laundering case stems from at least two CBI FIRs and reports shared by the National Housing Bank, SEBI, National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) and Bank of Baroda with the ED, they said. These reports indicate, the sources said, that there was a 'well-planned and thought after scheme' to divert or siphon off public money by cheating banks, shareholders, investors and other public institutions. The Union government had informed the Parliament recently that the State Bank of India has classified RCOM along with Ambani as 'fraud' and was also in the process of lodging a complaint with the CBI. A bank loan 'fraud' of more than ₹1,050 crore between RCOM and Canara Bank is also under the scanner of the ED apart from some 'undisclosed' foreign bank accounts and assets, the sources said. Reliance Mutual Fund is also stated to have invested ₹2,850 crore in AT-1 bonds, and a 'quid pro quo' is suspected here by the agency. Additional Tier 1 (AT-1) are perpetual bonds issued by banks to increase their capital base, and they are riskier than traditional bonds, having higher interest rates. An alleged loan fund diversion of about Rs 10,000 crore involving Reliance Infrastructure, too, is under the scanner of the agency. A Sebi report on RHFL is also part of the ED probe. The two companies had said in their filings before the stock exchanges that Anil Ambani was not on the Board of either Reliance Power or Reliance Infrastructure and that they had no 'business or financial linkage' to RCOM or RHFL. Any action taken against RCOM or RHFL, the companies said, has no bearing or impact on the governance, management, or operations of either Reliance Power or Reliance Infrastructure. Speaking to reporters within the Parliament complex, Gandhi said that they had suspicions first in Madhya Pradesh and then in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Then in Maharashtra, the Congress took this issue a step further and got it investigated at the State level. 'It is an open and shut case. The Election Commission is resorting to vote theft for the BJP,' Gandhi said. 'We saw this yesterday, and we saw this today as well. Has our Parliament been reduced to such a level? This is most objectionable, and we condemn it unequivocally,' he said. 'We expect that in the future, CISF personnel will not come trooping into the well of the House when members are raising important issues of public concern,' Kharge said in his letter to Harivansh. Congress general secretary, communications and chief whip of the party in the upper house, Jairam Ramesh, shared Kharge's letter on social media, saying the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha has just written to the Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabh,a on this 'shocking' development. Malegaon blast accused trained Gauri Lankesh murder suspects, Karnataka SIT finds: Report

The names of two absconding accused in the 2006 and 2008 Malegaon blast case, Ramchandra Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange, surfaced during the Karnataka Police's investigation into the 2017 murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, according to findings submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT alleges they trained attendees at covert camps run by groups connected to Sanatan Sanstha, contributing to a network targeting ideological opponents. Both men, also wanted in the 2007 Mecca Masjid and Ajmer Sharif blast cases, are suspected to have served as trainers at covert arms and explosives camps attended by several of the 17 people arrested for Lankesh's murder, Indian Express reported. (Also Read: DK Shivakumar says over 9,700 garbage complaints resolved in Bengaluru, residents react) These training camps were organised by groups linked to Sanatan Sanstha between 2011 and 2017, with five camps in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat attended by 'guest trainers,' the SIT chargesheet states. Kalsangra and Dange, linked to the right-wing group Abhinav Bharat, are among seven men connected to multiple bombings from 2006 to 2009 who have disappeared. Others include Amit Hakla (alias Ashwini Chauhan), wanted in the Samjhauta and Malegaon cases, and Sanatan Sanstha-linked Sarang Akolkar, Rudra Patil, and Jay Prakash, all wanted in the 2009 Goa blast case. The Karnataka SIT, based on statements from accused and witnesses, created sketches of the guest trainers. One of them, Suresh Nair, an Abhinav Bharat member and accused in the 2007 Ajmer blast, was arrested in Gujarat in 2018 and identified as 'Bade Babaji,' a trainer who attended camps in Gujarat and Jalna. His arrest suggested that Dange and Kalsangra could have similarly posed as trainers at these camps. The SIT also linked training activities to other murders, including those of Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare, and M M Kalburgi, claiming a covert group aligned with Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti operated a network to eliminate ideological opponents. The camps provided training in IEDs, subterfuge, and arms use. Arrested persons described trainers with titles like 'Babaji' and 'Guruji,' dressed as monks. The SIT's 9,235-page chargesheet, filed in November 2018, states that Sanatan Sanstha members followed militant Hindutva ideology guided by the group's publication Kshatra Dharma Sadhana. One witness turned hostile during the ongoing trial in May 2025, but the SIT maintains that missing Malegaon accused played a crucial role in creating a trained ideological cell.
