Lions injury updates: Terrion Arnold still battling hamstring, could return next week
Arnold has not practiced since he pulled a hamstring in the Lions' intrasquad scrimmage July 29.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said before practice Wednesday he is "shooting for next week" in Arnold's return. Initially, the Lions hoped Arnold would return last week.
The Lions open the regular season Sept. 7 against the Green Bay Packers.
"He's getting better," Campbell said. "He's doing more every day, but I don't see him being able to go through these practices."
Arnold started 15 games and had 10 pass deflections for the Lions last season and is expected to play a key role this fall in a secondary that already has suffered injury losses this summer.
Vaki, Hassanein return
Second-year cornerback Ennis Rakestraw will miss the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, backup Khalil Dorsey remains on the physically unable to perform list as he returns from a broken leg and safeties Dan Jackson is on injured reserve and out for the year.
Campbell said rookie defensive end Ahmed Hassanein will take part in practice after leaving early Monday to be evaluated for a leg injury.
"It was just a little bit of a scare," Campbell said.
And running back Sione Vaki is expected back for position drills and some team drills after missing most of training camp with a hamstring injury.
"When you can't practice it's always a setback, especially when he's only had very days to where he was in," Campbell said. "But it is what it is and that's behind you and you got to call this Day 1, what are you going to do about it? So it's just good to get him back on the grass."

Report – Villarreal & Rayo Vallecano Eyeing Up Deal For Fringe Inter Milan Defender
Villarreal and Real Vallecano are reportedly both keen to sign Inter Milan defender Tomas Palacios. This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that both La Liga clubs would have to make sales before they can sign the Argentine, however. Defender Tomas Palacios joined the Nerazzurri last summer. They reportedly paid a fee of over €10 million to sign him. However, so far Palacios has not exactly become a fixture in the Nerazzurri team. The young defender received only a couple of brief run-outs off the bench for Inter last summer. Then in January, Tomas Palacios joined Monza on loan. Villarreal & Real Vallecano Interested In Inter Defender Tomas Palacios MONZA, ITALY – MARCH 02: Nikola Vlasic of Torino is challenged by Tomas Palacios of Monza during the Serie A match between Monza and Torino at U-Power Stadium on March 02, 2025 in Monza, Italy. (Photo by) The intention for Palacios's loan at Monza was clearly for the young defender to receive more playing time. And the Argentine did certainly feature more than he had for Inter. However, at the same time, it was a difficult environment for Palacios. The Brianzoli were in a spiral towards relegation, and so it was often more experienced defenders who started. In any event, Tomas Palacios is back at Inter this summer after the end of his loan at the U-Power Stadium. Inter and Basel had been in talks for the Swiss side to sign Palacios on loan. However, those talks stalled out due to the inability of the two clubs to agree upon a fee. According to FCInterNews, though, there are two Spanish clubs keen on Palacios. Villarreal and Real Vallecano are both considering a move for the 23-year-old. FCIN report that Inter would want to loan Palacios out with a purchase option at €5-6 million.
