Two Ohio State football players named Walter Camp preseason first-team All-Americans
And if there's an All-American team, you can almost bet some Ohio State players are included, and that is indeed the case here as well. In fact, two Buckeyes made the list for the First-team and you can probably guess the two because both have been racking up notoriety based on what happened last year and the buzz going into 2025.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and safety Caleb Downs have both been recognized as preseason First-Team Walter Camp All-Americans. You know both well. Smith shattered the Ohio State freshmen receiving records for the Buckeyes and was an FWAA Freshman All-American and USA TODAY First Team All-American. He was also the MVP of the Rose Bowl vs. Oregon. He finished the season with 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns.
For Downs, he was a do-everything guy for the Buckeyes. While he was technically listed as a safety, he was often brought down closer to the line where a traditional linebacker would play to take advantage of his athleticism, speed, and ability to break on the ball. He was third on the team with 81 tackles and tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
Both guys should take an even bigger step forward in 2025 and land on some other preseason lists as they come out. You can almost bank on them being on some official postseason lists as well.

ESPN Reveals Preseason SEC Football Power Rankings
ESPN Reveals Preseason SEC Football Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The start of the 2025 college football season is just 15 days away. While Week 0 has a couple intriguing matchups like Iowa State vs. Kansas State in Ireland, one of the biggest games of the year will take place the following week. No. 1 Texas will travel to Columbus to face No. 2 Ohio State on Aug. 30. It marks the first time in history that the top two teams will meet in the season opener. Now that we're inching closer to the season, several preseason rankings are being released across national media networks. On Friday, ESPN revealed its preseason SEC power rankings for the 2025 season. To no surprise, Texas holds the top spot in the SEC. The Longhorns are No. 1 in the Coaches Poll as well, and will likely land at No. 1 in the initial AP Poll whenever it's released. Georgia (No. 2), Alabama (No. 3), LSU (No. 4), and Texas A&M (No. 5) round out ESPN's top five SEC teams heading into the season. The Longhorns will face conference foes Florida, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Arkansas, and Texas A&M this season. That's a fairly favorable draw for Texas. Anything can happen in a rivalry game when it comes to facing Oklahoma and Texas A&M, but outside of the Georgia matchup, the Longhorns should feel confident in every other game on the schedule. Texas is looking to reach the SEC Championship Game for the second year in a story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 8, 2025, where it first appeared.

Nebraska lands five-star safety and Omaha native Tory Pittman III for class of 2027
The Huskers landed their second commit and first five-star recruit for the class of 2027. Safety Tory Pittman III announced on social media that he is coming to Lincoln. The Omaha, Nebraska, native is ranked No. 1 in the state of Nebraska and among safeties across the country, according to the 247Sports Composite score. Pittman is entering his junior year at Omaha Central High School, but held a strong presence in the state even before entering high school, receiving an offer from the Huskers in eighth grade. In his freshman and sophomore years, he played both safety and wide receiver for the Eagles, totaling 88 tackles, five interceptions, and 29 catches for 528 yards and five touchdowns across 18 games. Chicago Air and Water Show sent the Cubs' dugout scrambling
Airplane fly-bys are a quintessential part of American sports and have been a common pregame tradition for decades. It's just that, typically, those fly-bys don't happen in the middle of the game. Players for the Chicago Cubs certainly weren't expecting it during Friday's loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, but the Chicago Air and Water Show had other plans. With planes practicing during the day ahead of the show, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, one of them gave the entire Cubs dugout quite a scare as players found themselves running for cover at the sound of the unknown threat. It also led to an incredible broadcasting moment as it occurred during an ad read for Motorola, leading to one of the funniest sponsored line reads you will ever hear. While the Cubs players were certainly startled, it didn't give them the energy boost they needed to emerge victorious as they lost 3-2 to the struggling Pirates. But hey, at the very least, Motorola is probably pleased with the engagement.
