Batu Kawan Stadium Becomes Focal Point As PM Anwar Set To Launch Unity Week
Themed 'Harmony in Diversity', the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10.30 am, and will also be attended by National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
This marks the third edition of the national-level celebration, following previous instalments in Kuching, Sarawak (2023) and Johor (2024). The event will also feature the presentation of the Progressive Rukun Tetangga (Neighbourhood Watch or RT) grant and the presentation of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation scholarships to deserving recipients.
Adding colour to today's programme are a variety of cultural and community-centric activities that reflect Malaysia's rich diversity, including the 'Roti Canai Terbang ' contest and the all-ethnicities bridal show.
The day will culminate in the 'Malam Irama Unity Sama-Sama Kita' concert, featuring performances by a star-studded line-up of Malaysian artists such as Datuk Awie, Stacy, Jaclyn Victor, Black Hanifah, Shila Zikir, and Suki Low.
A total of 35 exciting activities await visitors throughout SMP 2025, taking place from Thursday to Sunday. Highlights include the Rumah KAMI exhibition, the Kadazan Dusun and Orang Asli villages, the Malaysia Tanah Airku exhibition, the 'Susur Masa' exhibition by the Department of Museums Malaysia, and the National Library Pavilion.
In conjunction with Unity Week, various public services are also being offered directly to the people. These include discounts on summonses from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ), as well as reductions in compounds issued by local authorities such as the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).
During his one-day working visit to Penang, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to attend several other programmes, including the launch of the MADANI Bumiputera Tunas Master Plan and the JKPSB Housing Project at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Campus in Permatang Pauh, near here, before officiating SMP 2025.
After that, he will attend the groundbreaking ceremony and launch of Rumah Bakat MADANI SkyWorld Pearlmont in Seberang Jaya, before concluding his visit by officiating the groundbreaking ceremony of the Teluk Kumbar MADANI Complex in Bayan Lepas at 4 pm.

LABUAN, July 26 (Bernama) -- The Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) has not only attracted residents of the Pearl of Borneo, but also visitors from outside the island who have come to celebrate the festival, which began today. A visitor from Brunei Darussalam, Siti Norlila Rahim, 38, did not want to miss the opportunity to see the various species of flowers on display at the International Sea Sports Complex. The mother of three said her family had arrived on the island by ferry from Brunei to Labuan yesterday to visit relatives living here. 'My mum told me there's a festival here (in Labuan), so I thought, why not come… and most importantly, there are also booths from Brunei involved in the festival,' she told Bernama. Jinus Yoson, 51, from Tambunan, meanwhile, arrived in Labuan two days ago and came to the BFF as he did not want to miss the chance to witness the flower festival being held for the first time. He said the arrangement and decorations at the BFF were very attractive, with colourful floral displays and various activities for visitors to take part in. 'If even the people of Labuan are coming, then those of us who don't live here surely won't miss the chance to come,' he said, adding that he was also visiting his child who worked on the island. Nur Hayanti Asri, 18, from Kuala Penyu, said she was not only thrilled and excited as it was her first time attending such a festival, but also because she wanted to capture memorable photos with the flowers displayed at the BFF. 'As a young person, the first thing I thought of when deciding to come to the BFF was to take pictures to use as backgrounds and post them on Instagram,' she said, adding that she learnt about the festival through social media promotions.

Held at the International Sea Sports Complex, the event, themed 'Borneo Tropical Flora', runs from 8 am to midnight for five days, until July 30. Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, graced and officiated at the event. Present were the wife of the Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi; Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa; Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Rahim; Kuala Lumpur City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif and Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib.
