23 Celebs Who Had A Massive Fall From Grace

Buzz Feed09-03-2025
Time and time again, we witness cherished celebrities fall from the height of their careers. In some cases, it's self-inflicted, as we've seen with folks like Ye, who lost a billion dollars after a string of anti-semitic comments.
Or, in a more extreme case, That 70's Show star Danny Masterson, who was convicted of rape and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.
On the other hand, people find themselves canceled for ridiculous reasons, leading their careers to plummet entirely. Colin Kaepernick, for instance, has been exiled from the NFL after taking a knee in protest of police brutality and racial inequality.
The number of celebrities who've fallen off of the face of the Earth is astounding, but in a lot of cases, it's actually very dark. Below is a list of 24 celebrities who fell from grace for various reasons.
Note: Some entries have been edited and condensed for clarity and pulled from this Reddit thread and this Reddit thread.
1. " Matt Lauer. This guy was NBC royalty. Hosting the Olympics, he was there on 9/11...he was a fixture of the network. Then his sex pervert abuser secrets got out, and he just f**king vanished."
2. "Oscar Pistorius. He was an international inspiration to people with disabilities. Then, he was a murderer."
3. "Allison Mack"
"Her character in Smallville was original to the show and not part of the Superman mythos. She did so well by it that they introduced it into the comics.
But she had to go co-run a cult that sex trafficked women and branded them like animals. End of career, no reunion shows, no Comic Cons, character dropped from the comics, so no cool legacy. Oh yeah...and jail."

4. "I'm surprised not to have seen Rudy Giuliani on here already. America's Mayor after 9/11; put the New York crime families behind bars. Not only did he file for bankruptcy, but he was charged in Georgia under the same RICO laws he himself developed to prosecute the mafia in New York."
"After 9/11, all he had to do was nothing. Literally, nothing–his place in history was sealed. His fall from that pedestal to the national punchline is genuinely extraordinary."
– u/TheLittleWinstonBaby
5. "Robert Downey Jr. was a popular and talented actor, with a major substance abuse problem."
"In and out of rehab, jail, and prison for years. The infamous incident where he broke into a neighbor's house and passed out in one of their beds.
He explained in 1999 to a judge: "It's like I have a shotgun in my mouth, and I've got my finger on the trigger, and I like the taste of the gunmetal."
At rock bottom, h'd absolutely lost it all. His wife left and took their son, he was homeless, near bankrupt, and unemployable. If anyone wanted to hire him, they couldn't, because no insurance would cover a production he was on.
He finally reached a point where he wanted to get sober, not forced to get sober by others. He was fortunate to have friends who still wanted to help him find work and could afford to sponsor him. He came so close to being another tragic story of 'imagine what he could've done if he'd lived.'
He recovered and became one of the top-grossing actors of all time, award-winning, respected, and admired. From the top to the bottom, then back to the top, and blew the roof off."

6. "Josh Duggar."

7. " Jonathan Majors had the best possible kickoff for a career in such a short span of time."
"He was in a Marvel film, a Rocky film, an Oscar-bait film (not released), a Super Bowl commercial, and a speaker at the Oscars in the span of probably two months.
He had it all, and it's so disappointing."
– u/MidichlorianAddict
8. " Jared Fogle, aka Subway Jared."
9. "Corey Haim had millions but bad spending habits, a drug habit, and terrible decision-making and contract agreements (he chose to get paid in lump sums rather than get royalties) that left him destitute and living with his mother at the end of his short life. When he died, he only had about $5,000 to his name."
10. "My girlfriend and I were just remarking today how we admire Corey Feldman for standing up against abuse in Hollywood and getting blacklisted. I can't even imagine the horrors that guy witnessed, and he never backed down. You look at every celebrity or producer that's been Me Too'd and Feldman's been calling each of them out for decades."
11. "Ellen DeGeneres. 'Be kind to one another' unless you work for me. Then, all bets are off."
12. "Gina Carano"
"She was an up-and-coming new star. She had just played a cool, badass character on The Mandalorian that was beloved by millions. She was slated to get her own spin-off series. Her future was set. Once you have an in with Star Wars, one of the biggest IPs on the planet, you're set for life.
But then she posted shitty takes on Twitter and got blacklisted from LucasArts. Sure, she'll probably bounce from right-wing podcast to Fox News interview, but her moment came and went, and she blew it."
– u/MrSnippets
13. "Lindsay Lohan is another famous person who seemed to have everything going for her but faced a series of personal and professional setbacks due to her struggles with addiction and legal issues."
14. "Judy Garland. Basically, everyone important in her life screwed her over towards the end of her life, leaving her destitute, broke, and in poor health. There was even a song dedicated to Judy Garland called 'Don't Cry Out Loud.'"
15. "Chevy Chase hosted the entire first season of SNL, had National Lampoon, Three Amigos, etc., and was on course to be one of the biggest American comedians in history."
"He eventually outed himself as an absolute douchebag interpersonally, racist, sexist, and homophobic. No one wanted to work with him."
– u/redditrandom1408
16. "Scott Adams had one of the most successful comics in the world. His family could've lived off that gravy train for generations. But he went full fascist/MAGA idiot supporting Trump, portraying himself as the fount of some magical persuasion genius. It all went south earlier this year after he published a video in which he referred to Black people as a 'hate group' and advised white people to 'get the hell away from Black people.'
17. "Scott Storch, one of the great music producers of his time. He produced hits like 50 Cent's 'Candy Shop,' 'Still Dre' by Dr. Dre, and 'Lean Back' by Fat Joe, to name a few. He also dated Hollywood's hottest, from Kim Kardashian to Paris Hilton. He was worth around $100 million and squandered it in a matter of a year after getting addicted to coke. He is making a comeback, though."
18. "MC Hammer. To this day, he's still used as a warning to up-and-coming musicians."

19. "Debatable if you'd say he was super famous, but Armie Hammer before he couldn't hide his cannibalistic side is up there."

20. "Jackie Coogan. The first Hollywood child star. He made the equivalent of around $50 million during his career, and almost all of it was squandered on the high life by his mother and stepfather."

"The California law protecting child actors is named after him."

21. "John Wilkes Booth. He was a famous and highly-regarded actor with a very successful career before he murdered President Lincoln."

22. "Henry Ruggs III, a first-round pick in the NFL. Racing his Corvette through Vegas at 3 in the morning, he crashed at 160 mph and killed a woman and her dog. He was one of the top prospects in the game. He's 24 years old now, and he's going to spend 3-10 years in jail and lose out on any and all NFL hopes and dreams. He only made it two seasons in the league before essentially ruining his life."

23. "Suge Knight. He literally had a $400 million hip hop empire in Death Row, which was the hottest label in rap during the early-mid 1990s, with some of the hottest stars like Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac, but threw it all away."

Chiefs players ‘teased' Travis Kelce in locker room for 2016 dating show, Derrick Johnson says

There was a time when Travis Kelce's dating life was the subject of entertainment media, even without Taylor Swift. In 2016, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end had his own dating show, 'Catching Kelce,' on which he tried out dating 50 women, one from each state, in an attempt to find a girlfriend. Advertisement The show lasted one season. Kelce's former teammate, Chiefs all-time tackle leader Derrick Johnson, told Fox News Digital how the locker room reacted to Kelce's dating show. 'He tried not to [talk about the show in the locker room] but we kind of teased him at times, because when you're playing for Andy Reid, there's no distractions. You got to do your job and do it at a high level. So we were aware of the show in the locker room. We'd throw different stuff out there. But when it came to football, it was all business,' Johnson said. Kelce turned 27 in October 2016 when the show aired, overlapping with that year's NFL season. Advertisement The tight end was in the midst of his first 1,000-yard receiving season and second-of-10-straight Pro Bowl seasons. And while the teasing for the show came in the locker room, Johnson says the team's veterans also respected the younger Kelce's abilities when it came to dating. 'He had that taken care of. Good or bad, that's the area that he needs no help in,' Johnson said. 5 Travis Kelce led the dating show 'Catching Kelce' in 2016. YouTube/E! Advertisement 5 The NFL star's dating show only lasted one season. E! 5 Kelce did not date the winner of his show for a long time. E! The show's first and only season ended with Kelce choosing a contestant from Kentucky, Maya Benberry, as his girlfriend. However, by 2017, Kelce was reported to have begun dating his next girlfriend, model Kayla Nicole. Advertisement Kelce and Nicole reportedly dated for five years up until May 2022. Once Kelce began his relationship with Swift in 2023, Johnson took notice. 5 Kelce was 'teased' about his dating show in the locker room, according to Chiefs all-time tackle leader Derrick Johnson. Fox News 5 Kelce started dating Taylor Swift in 2023. AP 'He outkicked his coverage. Taylor's big time,' Johnson said. 'Kelce's big time as well, football-wise, but she is globally. So they're definitely a power couple.' Johnson left the Chiefs for the rival Raiders for his final season in 2018, but his lasting influence preceded the team's historic dynasty and three Super Bowl wins, with five total trips to the big game, from 2019 to February 2024. Johnson was famously a team leader on defense in the early years of Kelce's career. 'None of us knew who he could really be. He probably didn't know it at all either. And once he got going after his second year, third year, I was like, 'This guy is the man!'' Johnson said.

Taylor Swift is making boyfriend Travis Kelce part of her business like never before

Taylor Swift is centering her relationship with Travis Kelce in the rollout for her new album. She announced her new album, " The Life of a Showgirl," in a teaser clip on Kelce's podcast. Swift is known for writing songs about boyfriends, but she rarely involves them in her business ventures. Taylor Swift is not typically one to center her boyfriends. I know that contradicts the party line that Swift's critics began to hawk when she was a teenager — that she's either a besotted, boy-crazy mess or a serial man-eater, depending on whom you ask. Yes, Swift writes songs about falling in love, breaking up, and every stage of romance in between. (She also writes songs about many other topics, including friendship, fame, sexism, and more, but that's a lecture for another day.) But as a public figure and music industry tycoon, Swift has largely avoided mixing business and pleasure — until now. At 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Swift announced the title of her 12th album, "The Life of a Showgirl." But instead of doing it on her social media accounts, a livestream, or during her Grammys acceptance speech, she gave the exclusive to her boyfriend Travis Kelce's football podcast. Swift sits next to Kelce in a teaser clip from his "New Heights" podcast, which the NFL star co-hosts with his brother Jason. "I wanted to show you something," Swift tells Jason, reaching for a mint green briefcase labeled "T.S." She opens it while announcing the record's title, though the album's cover is blurred out. View this post on Instagram A post shared by New Heights (@newheightshow) For a different celebrity, announcing your latest project on a partner's podcast might not be a big deal. But Swift's star power is such that she doesn't need anyone else to promote her music. For years, she has pulled back from traditional media opportunities like magazine covers and late-night TV appearances, instead relying on the self-contained machine of her website and verified social media accounts to communicate news to her fans. Glimpses of her private life were similarly limited. Swift spent the previous six or so years evading public scenes with her then-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, dodging questions about their relationship and executing minimal album rollouts — no lead singles, very rare interviews, and certainly no sports podcasts. Swift's relationship with Kelce, whom she began dating in 2023, has marked a new era for the pop star's public persona. It's not that Swift hasn't dabbled in the customary celebrity-in-love playbook before; she's executed plenty of paparazzi walks and award-show date nights. It's not even the first time she's involved a boyfriend in her creative pursuits: She wrote the lyrics for then-boyfriend Calvin Harris' 2016 hit " This Is What You Came For," while she and Alwyn cowrote multiple songs for her surprise 2020 album "Folklore" while they were dating. It's that those collaborations were always under pseudonyms and revealed after the fact, as Swift worked hard to center herself in her own work, rather than muddying her career moves by putting even more attention on her love life. With Kelce, Swift is proudly involving him every step of the way. Swift has cheered for Kelce at seemingly every football game she can manage, even as she was busy touring the world. Kelce returned the favor by attending several Eras Tour shows, where Swift would sometimes change her own lyrics to honor his presence. (Who among us could forget the first time she sang, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me," in Buenos Aires?) The couple even shocked fans with the ultimate hard launch, when Swift welcomed Kelce onstage for a surprise cameo, signaling a decisive shift in her drive for publicity around her relationship. Both Swift and Kelce have publicly put emphasis on their bond as equal partners and supporters, something Kelce reiterated in an expertly timed GQ cover interview published mere hours after Swift's album announcement. "I get to go and be that fan," Kelce told GQ of attending Swift's concerts. "Because I am a fan. I'm a fan of music. I'm a fan of art. And it's so cool that I get to experience her being that plus one for me on the football field…. I feel that same enjoyment every time she comes to my shows." Their synergy quickly began to work in Kelce's favor. Swift's high-profile fandom sparked an unprecedented surge in NFL viewership, especially among younger girls, and a marked increase in Kelce's jersey sales. Swift launching her next era with Kelce by her side suggests that Swift considers Kelce's podcast a piece of her own media empire. He is not only playing the role of her boyfriend in her personal life, but also is an active participant in both her professional organization and public image. Time will tell if their synergy will work for Swift as well as it has worked for Kelce. She arguably has much less to gain from his audience than vice versa; her business was thriving just fine without him. The Eras Tour, which caused a ticket stampede long before Kelce entered the picture, sold so well that it helped make Swift a billionaire. Her most recent album, " The Tortured Poets Department," which was self-evidently not written about Kelce, sold over 2.6 million copies in its first week of release and topped the Billboard 200 chart for 17 weeks, the best commercial performance of her career thus far. Will an album about a happy relationship sell better than one about a self-described "manic phase" that resulted in heartbreak? My instinct says no — Swift's best-loved songs are her breakup anthems. But I never thought I'd be tuning in to a football podcast to hear Swift talk about her music, so perhaps anything is possible.

Dallas Cowboys Fans Applaud Denzel Washington For Jerry Jones Rant

Dallas Cowboys Fans Applaud Denzel Washington For Jerry Jones Rant originally appeared on The Spun. Legendary actor Denzel Washington doesn't play around when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. Washington appeared on ESPN's "First Take" this Tuesday to promote his upcoming film, "Highest 2 Lowest." The two-time Academy Award winner also had a discussion about the Cowboys with ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith. His favorite NFL team has received a lot of backlash for the way it has handled contract negotiations with All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons. The Cowboys haven't reached the Super Bowl in nearly 30 years. Although he didn't completely blame Jerry Jones for that drought, Washington dished out some blunt advice for the owner of "America's Team" while on ESPN. "He ain't thinking about us. He's thinking about his pocket," Washington said. "There is box office and there is Oscars. Jerry, been a while, huh? Ain't been to the show, you wouldn't know. Ain't been to the show, wouldn't know. Haven't been to the show, wouldn't know what it is to win." NFL fans, especially those residing in Dallas, loved this rant from Washington. They think it perfectly captures what's wrong with the Cowboys. "Facts," a Cowboys fan wrote on X. "Please relay to Jerry & Stephen, the fans want Micah signed, stop waiting so long to pay top players, hire a GM, quit kicking the can at RB, and stop talking football in the media, that's the head coach's job. As Emmitt Smith said, the business isn't aligned with football operations." "Didn't know my goat is a Cowboys fan and he called Jerry a clown on live tv. Greatest aura ever," a second Dallas fan commented. "Denzel calling out Jerry Jones wasn't on my 2025 bingo card. And I'm absolutely here for it," another fan said. "Denzel still got his fastball. Remarkable talent," a social media user wrote. Fans are sure hoping Jones will listen to Washington's advice about how "all money ain't good money." Jones hasn't responded to Washington's remarks yet. If we had to guess, he's not really offended that he got called out by the "Remember the Titans" star. After all, Jones enjoys being in the spotlight.
