Washington Nationals All-Star Emerges as Surprising Trade Deadline Candidate
Feinsand reports that pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who was involved in the Juan Soto blockbuster trade in 2022, has been mentioned as a 'potential' trade candidate.
The 26-year-old Gore has emerged as an ace in his fourth MLB season. He has a 3.02 ERA, 133 ERA+, 2.91 FIP, 1.196 WHIP and 3.6 bWAR across 19 starts and 110 1/3 innings this season. Gore is also third in the National League in strikeouts with 138.
With the Nationals recently firing general manager Mike Rizzo, Washington's new front office could be inclined to part with Gore since he's under club control through 2027. The southpaw would bring back a significant haul of prospects from a playoff contender looking to upgrade their starting rotation.
Gore told Feinsand ahead of the All-Star game he's not putting too much merit into the trade rumors.
'Having been traded before, it's just one of those things you don't even think about,' Gore explained. 'You love the guys you're around and you grow as a group with these guys, but I'm just trying to stack good starts and whatever happens, happens.'
Even though Gore hasn't been linked to any teams publicly, those looking for starting pitching at the deadline include the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In his first four seasons, Gore is 25-34 with a 3.93 ERA, 103 ERA+, 3.86 FIP, 1.371 WHIP and 542 strikeouts in 483 innings.
