India's defence production soars to record Rs 1.51 lakh cr in FY 2024-25, Rajnath lauds DPSUs, private industry
This significant rise reflects a remarkable 90 percent increase since FY 2019-20, when the figure stood at Rs 79,071 crore.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the collective efforts of the Department of Defence Production and all stakeholders including DPSUs, public sector manufacturers, and the private industry in achieving this landmark. He termed the upward trajectory as a clear indicator of India's strengthening defence industrial base.
The DPSUs and other PSUs accounted for approximately 77 percent of total production, while the private sector contributed 23 percent. The share of the private sector, which increased from 21 percent in FY 2023-24 to 23 percent in FY 2024-25, reflects the sector's growing role in the defence ecosystem of the country.
Both public and private segments of the industry have demonstrated consistent year-on-year growth, attributed to far-reaching policy reforms, enhanced ease of doing business, and a strategic focus on indigenisation over the past decade. The overall production of DPSUs and private sector has increased by 16 percent and 28 percent respectively in FY 2024-25.
This record-setting achievement underscores the growing momentum of the Government's push to self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The emphasis to reduce the dependency on imports and create a defence industrial complex that not only caters to India's needs but also strengthens the potential of exports has shown positive results.
It may be recalled that the defence exports have surged to a record high of Rs 23,622 crore in FY 2024-25. It was a growth of Rs 2,539 crore or 12.04 percent over the defence exports figures of FY 2023-24, which were Rs 21,083 crore.
With sustained policy support, increased private participation, and expanding export capabilities, India's defence production sector is poised for continued acceleration in the years ahead.

UP govt nod for MSME Industrial Estate Management Policy, 10% of all plots & sheds to be reserved for SC/ST entrepreneurs
The state government has given a green signal to the 'Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Industrial Estate Management Policy' aiming to promote industries through easy land allocation, better facilities and better management. The policy reserves 10 per cent of all plots and sheds for SC/ST entrepreneurs. If no eligible applicant is found, the plots may be reallocated to other categories to keep development on track, the government said in a statement. The government said Uttar Pradesh happens to be India's most populous state with the second-largest economy and the policy would help boost investor confidence with better infrastructure and transparent processes, targeting an industrial landscape that meets global standards. Under the new Industrial Estate Management Policy, the allocation of land, sheds, and plots available in industrial estates will be done on lease/rent through auction or e-auction modes. The lease/rent period will be determined by the Commissioner and Director of Industries, who will also have the authority to select the auction portal. Up to 20% of the area may be allocated for commercial, service, or residential use. Considering the state's geographical diversity, reserved prices have also been fixed for industrial plots for 2025–26. For instance, for the Madhyanchal region the reserved price will be Rs 2,500 per square metre. A hike of 20 per cent has been allocated in Pashchimanchal region at Rs 3,000 per square metre, and 20 per cent lower in Bundelkhand and Purvanchal regions at Rs 2,000 per square metre. The rates under the policy will increase annually by 5 per cent on April 1. As a special arrangement, if an anchor unit is likely to spur significant MSME growth in an industrial estate, the government may offer plots at preferential rates. The successful bidders in an e-auction will have to pay 10 per cent of the reserved price as earnest money. The remaining amount will be paid in lump sum, within a year, or maximum three years. For bidders making immediate payments will also be eligible for a 2 per cent discount. For those who opt for the installment plan, 12 or 36 equal monthly installments will be applicable, attracting additional interest as a penalty for any payment delay. Industrial estates will be equipped with common facility centres, power substations, fire stations, women's hostels, dormitories, crèches, eco-friendly parks, training institutes, and health services. The Commissioner and Director of Industries have been assigned to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for land allocation, property transfer, revitalisation, subletting, division and surrender.

Mohali councillor Sarabjit Singh Samana calls Mohali Mayor ‘complete failure'; Sidhu says MC facing severe fund crunch
Mohali councillor Sarabjit Singh Samana on Tuesday accused Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu of 'dodging key issues' and being a 'complete failure' in development works, asking him to resign voluntarily, even as the latter claimed that the Municipal Corporation (MC) is facing a severe fund crunch. Speaking with The Indian Express, Samana said the Mayor had recently claimed to give a 24-hour ultimatum to meet the Mohali MLA but 'has not shown up till today (Tuesday).' 'The Mayor should stop playing hide-and-seek and come to MLA Kulwant Singh's office anytime if he genuinely wants to solve Mohali's issues,' he added. Targeting Sidhu's handling of the garbage crisis, Samana alleged, 'until MLA Kulwant Singh raised the Samgoli issue, the Mayor didn't even know about it. Even after visiting the site, he's only making delaying statements, though the access road is the corporation's responsibility'. He said the crisis could have been avoided had action been taken when the dumping ground shut down 18 months ago. On the drainage issue, Samana claimed the Mayor talks about a Rs 200-crore project 'without bringing it to the House, passing it, or even presenting a survey report.' Taking a dig, he said: 'the Mayor is an expert in airy statements. He even said in public that saving his chair for four years would be his biggest success which shows staying in power is his only goal'. The councillor also took a swipe at the Mayor's elder brother, former MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu, saying, 'Despite holding no constitutional post, Balbir Sidhu claims he is getting works done, while the Mayor says his works aren't done. Either one is lying, or both are. It seems Balbir has taken the contract to lie in villages, and the Mayor in the city'. Meanwhile, in a counter move, Mayor Sidhu, through his representative, delivered a copy of a letter addressed to the Chief Minister at MLA Kulwant Singh's office. The letter seeks a Rs 600-crore grant for 15 major projects, including resolving the garbage problem, rainwater drainage, city bus service, replacing asbestos sewage pipes, and constructing an auditorium. In the letter, the Mayor stated that Mohali MC faces a severe fund crunch as it has 'no independent sources of income,' while GMADA 'earns billions by selling land in Mohali but does not provide necessary funds.' Sidhu said he has now sent full expenditure details to the MLA as requested. 'Now it's up to the MLA to tell when he will go to the Chief Minister for this grant. I, along with my fellow councillors, am ready anytime to accompany him,' the Mayor added.
