Thoothukudi college blast: Palaniswami blames DMK govt, demands CM's response
Chennai: AIADMK general secretary and Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday expressed shock over the explosion of what he described as a 'country-made bomb' allegedly brought in by students of the Government Polytechnic College in Thoothukudi. He accused the DMK regime of presiding over a deteriorating law and order situation and urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to 'step out of his denial zone' and respond to questions on public safety. The incident occurred on Tuesday during the lunch break when two first-year Diploma (Mechanical) students -- M. Mathavan (16) of P&T Colony and M. Murali Karthick (16) of Indra Nagar, Thoothukudi -- allegedly set off firecrackers inside their classroom. According to sources, the crackers were of the type used for fishing in ponds. Mathavan sustained severe injuries to his right hand, while Murali suffered injuries to his right eye. Both were admitted to the Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital. While Palaniswami alleged that the blast involved a 'country-made bomb' and reflected a collapse in campus security, Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police Albert John clarified that the explosion was caused only by firecrackers. He appealed to the public not to spread false or misleading information about the incident. In a strongly worded social media statement, the AIADMK leader drew parallels with recent violent incidents involving students. 'From knife fights among school children to machetes in school bags, and now a bomb explosion in a government college -- this is the grim reality in Tamil Nadu today,' he said. He contrasted the present situation with what he called the 'educationally progressive' image of the state under the previous AIADMK regime, claiming it was now 'drifting under the so-called Stalin-model governance.' Palaniswami criticised what he alleged was the DMK government's tendency to downplay such incidents as 'personal issues' and called it shameful. 'The presence of deadly weapons in an educational institution reflects a collapse in governance. Why is there hesitation when questions come from the people?' he asked, accusing the Chief Minister of remaining silent when confronted with uncomfortable queries on law and order. The AIADMK leader demanded that the state provide immediate medical care for the injured students and conduct a thorough probe into the blast. He also called for stringent legal action against those responsible and measures to prevent such incidents in the future. 'It is time to reclaim the state from a regime that has allowed weapons and explosives to enter our institutions,' Palaniswami said, warning that public confidence in the government's ability to maintain safety was rapidly eroding.

Will travel to Germany, England in September to attract investments: CM Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday said he would travel to Germany and England in September to attract investments. 'In the past few years, I have travelled to the UAE, Singapore, Japan, Spain, and the U.S. and, as a result of my interactions with investors, the State got ₹10 lakh crore in investments, and many multinational companies have started operations in the State. This has resulted in direct and indirect employment to 30 lakh people,' he said, addressing the DMK District Secretaries' meeting. 'The evidence of this is the double-digit economic growth recorded by the State, after a gap of 15 years,' Mr. Stalin said. 'Again, I will travel abroad in September to attract investments. In the coming years, the measures taken by the DMK government would ensure that the State's economic growth is on a par with developed countries,' he said. Mr. Stalin urged the party cadre to work to ensure the DMK's victory in the 2026 Assembly election. 'The DMK's image has been boosted through the various schemes implemented by the party, and the people are in favour of the DMK. The Oraniyil Tamil Nadu (Tamil Nadu Under One Front) initiative has receivied a good response from the public. The party's office-bearers should continue interacting with the people,' he said. Mr. Stalin stressed the need for a strong booth-level structure, amid the row over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. He said he would directly monitor appointments to the party's booth-level committees. Before the Mupperum Vizha, meetings should be held at the district level, and the minutes should be forwarded to the headquarters, he said.

Mass deletion of voters in Bihar under SIR anti-democratic : DMK
Chennai, Aug 13 (UNI) The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu today strongly condemned the Mass Deletion of about 65 lakh voters in poll-bound Bihar unilaterally by the Election Commission under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and termed it as anti-democratic. A resolution registering its strong objections and slamming the EC, an autonomous body which was mandated to ensure and free and fair poll, for deleting more than 65 lakh voters from the voter list. The Vote Chori (as exposed by Congress leader Rahul Gadhi) and mass deletions under SIR poses a serious threat in holding an free and fair election, it said, and stressed the fact tht voters list was the basic document for the election and that list should be prepared corrctly without any mistakes to ensure and free and fair election, it said. Even after massive protests by the DMK and the Opposition Congress-led INDIA bloc parties against the SIR aimed at destroying the election democracy and even after the Supreme Court warned of interference if there was "Mass Deletion", the EC for the reasons best known to it has deleted 65 lakh voters from the list. "It is an anti-democratic act that shakes the level playing field in the polls", the resolution said. It also strongly condemned the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for arresting Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA Bloc leaders for taking out a march to ECI in protest against Vote Chori and Mass deletion of voters and registering FIRs against them. Anpther resolution expressed serious concern over the EC, despite being an autonomous body, acting hand in glove withthe BJP-led government at the Centrewith political colours and referred to the DMK MP delegation submitting a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner on July 17 stressing on five key points. "The ECI should accept the demands putforth by the DMK and ensure a free and fair election", it said. It may be recalled that Mr Stalin had Launching a blistering attack on the BJP and the EC and charged the saffron party with turning the poll watchdog, an autonomous statutory body, into its 'poll rigging machinery' as evidenced by the expose by Rahul Gandhi. Referring to the detention of INDIA bloc leaders, he said he stands shoulder to shoulder with his 'brother Rahul Gandhi' on the issue of seeking justice for vote theft. The Vote Theft evidence presented by RahulGandhi exposes the scale of this fraud. With elections due for the Tamil Nadu Assembly early next year and the DMK working on retaining power, Stalin is opposed to any kind of SIR of electoral roll in Tamil Nadu which the Election Commission is carrying out in Bihar. 'We demand the immediate release of complete machine readable voter rolls for every state, An end to politically driven deletions and An independent probe into this subversion of our democracy. DMK stands shoulder to shoulder in this fight. We will not watch in silence while the BJP robs India's democracy in broad daylight. #VoteChori #Rahul ExposesVoteChori,' Stalin posted. UNI GV 1440
