Alas Pilipinas Men fall to Indonesia to finish 4th in SEA V. League Leg 1

GMA Network13-07-2025
Alas Pilipinas Men failed to land on the podium after absorbing a 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Indonesia, closing out their 2025 SEA V. League Leg 1 campaign at fourth spot on Sunday in Candon City.
The Filipinos wrapped up their run with a 2-2 card similar to Vietnam, but will finish just outside the podium due to the latter holding a superior sets-won points.
Indonesia will bag the silver place with a 3-1 card as Thailand captured its third straight gold medal.
Leo Ordiales was among the bright spots for the Philippines, finishing with 12 points and two digs while his National University teammates Buds Buddin and Jade Disquitado each finished with six markers.
The troika connived as Alas kept the game close early in Set 3 with Ordiales even tying things up at 7-all. But the Indonesians, the reigning three-time SEA Games champions, slowly pulled away with Fazza Fauzan Rama denying Disuitado to bring his side to a 15-8 cushion.
That sparked the breakaway for Indonesia as Natanael Jasen took advantage of an overpass from the Philippines to make it a sizable 23-14 advantage.
Rama then unleashed one from the opposite side to clinch the match point at 24-16 before Arnez Arabi Boy soared above the single block of Disquitado to finish it off from the right wing.
Boy paced Indonesia with 21 points anchored on 15 attacks, four aces, and two blocks while Rama and Septian Fahri chipped in 11 and seven markers apiece as they claimed their third silver finish in a row.
Alas, meanwhile, failed to extend its podium streak after seizing back-to-back bronze medals last year.

PMNFT U-23 falls to Vietnam in Mandiri Cup semis

The Philippine Men's Under-23 National Football Team came up short in its semifinal campaign after they fell to Vietnam, 2-1, in the ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup on Friday at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia. Despite Javier Mariano's goal that put the Filipino booters at an early advantage, the Vietnamese refused to back down and eventually booked the first spot to the championship against the winner of the other semifinal pairing between host nation Indonesia and Thailand. Still, the Filipinos made history with their first-ever semifinal appearance in the regional meet where they will now be relegated to the battle for third match. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Turkey's Aurora Gaming shocks Onic Philippines in MSC showdown

Onic Philippines was dealt a massive upset loss after falling to Aurora Gaming of Turkey, 1-2, in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang's Mid-Season Cup (MSC) 2025 on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Filipinos bounced back from a Game 1 loss with a dominant performance in Game 2, but ultimately fell to the Turkish squad in the clincher, dropping to the lower bracket of Group B and teetering on the brink of elimination. Aurora, who's being led by Filipino coaches in Aniel "Master The Basics" Jiandani and Dexter "Dexstar" Alaba, secured a spot in the upper bracket semifinals, moving one step closer to a coveted playoff berth. On the cusp of a sweep loss, Onic turned to Duane "Kelra" Pillas in Game 2 as the prized gold laner unleashed a strong showing on his signature hero Granger, dropping eight kills and five assists to drag Aurora to a decider. In Game 3, both teams were decisive until the final lord clash came, where Onic's jungler Cyric "K1NGKONG" Perez had a lord steal at the 20:17 mark. But K1NGKONG was taken down after Aurora's roamer Furkan 'APEX47' Akbulut unloaded a well-timed Avatar of the Guardian that also allowed him to pick off Kelra (Beatrix) for a double kill. Onic also saw roamer Borrid "Brusko" Parro going down after falling to the Abyssal Trap of Ahmet "Rosa" Batir (Selena), paving the way for Aurora Gaming eventual victory against the reigning world champions. Onic is now in a must-win situation as it takes on Area 77 of North America where the loser gets booted out while the winner advances to lower bracket semifinals. Aurora, on the other hand, will look to punch its playoff ticket when it takes on RRQ Hoshi of Indonesia in the upper bracket semis. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
