Pain to power: Sbahle Mpisane reflects on near-fatal car crash
The daughter of Sbu Mpisane and Shauwn Mkhize, or MaMkhize, crashed her BMW X6 in Durban on 9 August 2018
On 9 August 2018, Sbahle Mpisane crashed her BMW 6 Series into a tree on Margaret Mncadi Avenue in Durban after a night out with her girlfriends.
Paramedics pulled Sbahle out of the car using the jaws of life, shortly before her car burst into flames. The personal trainer spent three weeks in a coma and many months in the ICU. She also suffered from amnesia due to her head injury and could not walk after breaking both her legs.
Reliving memories of the traumatic incident this week, Sbahle posted on her Instagram Stories: 'The world sees a woman who looks fully healed. They see the polished version of me. But what they don't see is the girl who's been healing every single day since. Imagine how depressing that is. From screaming pain to silent strength.
Sbahle Mpisane revealed that the accident has made her physically and mentally stronger.
She continued: 'It's hard to put into words, but I'm finally seeing real, steady progress. In my body. In my mindset. In my spirit. And I just want to say: I'm proud of myself. I'm a survivor. I'ma true fighter'.
Speaking in an interview with YouTuber Owamie Netshivhazwaulu in 2022, Sbahle Mpisane revealed that she was 'permanently disabled' after losing her ankle bone, which left her wearing a moon boot.
She also claimed that her amnesia had left her with lasting memory loss. She said: 'I will never recover fully from my amnesia, medical people will understand, but I recovered with the necessary memories'.
In her interview, Sbahle Mpisane also hinted that someone she knows was behind the crash.
She added: 'Something happened, someone was the cause of my car accident…I happen to know the person. That person was my friend, but there's nothing to talk about…because I'm alive.
'That person did come forward to say and agree about what happened. I will never reveal the person's name.
'I forgave the person because they didn't do it intentionally. When alcohol is involved, a lot happens'.

Woman attempts suicide as loan shark increases interest to 400%
A woman attempted suicide in KwaZulu-Natal, Phoenix on Monday, 11 August 2025, after a loan shark unexpectedly increased the interest rate. The 36-year-old male suspect entered a property on Aslaam Road in Riyadh with intentions to rob the residence. Two family members were having tea in their yard when they suddenly noticed the suspect approaching them. 'The 78-year-old woman and her male domestic worker fled into the house, followed by the suspect. The robber produced a knife and attempted to steal the metal payer statue, but was confronted by a 54-year-old male who exited the bedroom. He stabbed the victim on his hand and fled empty-handed,' said RUSA. The suspect was later caught on Russom Street. Ex-Post Office manager loses pension payout over SASSA fraud
A former Post Office manager in Mpumalanga has lost over R100 000 of her pension payout for defrauding SASSA beneficiaries without their knowledge. Lucia Mashego, a wheelchair bound former Shatale Post Office branch manager in Bushbuckridge colluded with a teller, Thandeka Dibakwane, and a private person, Precious Nyathi, to steal from SASSA beneficiaries without their knowledge. FORMER POST OFFICE MANAGER LOSES PENSION OVER DEFRAUDING SASSA BENEFICIARIES According to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (also known as the Hawks), Mashego made duplicate SASSA cards that were given to Dibakwane, who handed them to Nyathi to unlawfully withdraw money from different ATMs. Hawks spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi said the SASSA beneficiaries suffered an actual loss of R250 000 that was unlawfully withdrawn from their accounts. Nkosi said upon noticing the illicit activities, Virginia Phoku, another post office teller, took advantage of the situation and made herself duplicate cards. Phoku was found guilty and sentenced to two years imprisonment suspended for five years on condition that she is not convicted of a similar offence in January. 'Mashego pleaded guilty on all 60 fraud charges on 27 May. She was sentenced to eight years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that she is not convicted of a similar offence. The court further ordered the Asset Forfeiture Unit to recover R146 897,05 from her pension fund,' Nkosi explained. Meanwhile, the former Post Office manager's accomplices, Dibakwane and Nyathi, are expected to appear before the Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday, 13 August. The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Nico Gerber issued a strong warning to people in authority not to abuse their powers for self-enrichment at the expense of the most needy. Police hunt intensifies for more Home Affairs fire suspects
Two people have been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a Department of Home Affairs building in Germiston on Tuesday, 12 August. According to police, a group of protesters allegedly started the blaze, and authorities are searching for more suspects. Firefighters managed to contain the fire this morning, which led to several road closures in the area. The police are on the hunt for more suspects, with others expected to be arrested. 'Some of the suspects are still on the run. The team is on the ground. We are busy following up. We will get them to ensure that all of them face justice,' a police on the scene told Newzroom Afrika . Numerous people had to evacuate from the area due to the fire.
