
Carlisle: Street closure warning ahead of road improvements
People in Carlisle are being warned of planned street closures during the latest phase of a major regeneration project.The work, at the junction of English Street and Devonshire Street, will cause both streets to be closed to traffic for eight weeks.Three bus services - 62, 64, and 69 - will be diverted in both directions during the works, with passengers advised to check before travelling.The roadworks include the installation of ducts, upgraded traffic signals, new kerbing and paving, and improved pedestrian crossings.
It is the lastest phase of the Southern Gateway project, part of the city council's £100m regeneration programme aimed at improving infrastructure, boosting economic growth, and creating a more attractive, accessible environment.The council said it was aware works of this scale can be disruptive, particularly for those living or working nearby, but it was committed to delivering the improvements with minimal impact.

Lake District road closed due to sink hole
A road in the Lake District has been closed due to a sink hole. Westmorland and Furness Council said the sink hole appeared due to a damaged culvert in the U5795 Ings to Troutbeck road, north of Windermere.
