'It's time we embrace this golden elixir'
In an August 2024 Instagram post, he explained why ghee is 'the big daddy of oils'. Dr Chopra said, 'Ghee is deeply embedded in our DNA. It enhances digestion, boosts immunity and provides essential fatty acids and vitamins like A, D, E, and K. Ghee also has a high smoke point, making it ideal for cooking at high temperatures without breaking down into harmful compounds.'
He added, 'Ghee, is truly the gift of our ancestors to the world. Rich in nutrients and packed with benefits, it's time we embrace this golden elixir in our kitchens and lives. Make sure (you use) A2 ghee which is derived from organic A2 cow milk. And definitely make doubly sure to do your research to ensure that the cows are treated ethically. Cows raised via unethical practices such as animal mistreatment or hormonal injections to over produce will create products of the same kind. Be nice.'
More information on ghee's benefits
'Desi ghee is considered as one of the best immunity boosters in Indian society. It is beneficial for our eyesight, digestive system and even strengthens bones. Desi ghee also promotes healthy skin and hair. It is a great antibiotic and helps during cold and cough. It is also used on wounds to speed up healing. During pregnancy, desi ghee provides nourishment to both the mother and the child as they need more nutrients,' Priyanka Rohtagi, chief clinical nutritionist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, said in an 2019 interview.
'Ghee primarily contains saturated fatty acids and is rich in vitamins A, E and K2. It is also rich in Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) and Butyrate, both of which have powerful health benefits. A normal adult can consume 1-2 table spoons of ghee per day. Apart from that, this quantity can be slightly changed depending upon the quantity of work out one is doing,' Dr BL Agarwal, associate director, cardiology at Jaypee Hospital in Noida had added.

Odisha Health Minister says over 2.6 lakh treated under Ayushman Bharat, Gopabandhu Yojana schemes since April

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling has highlighted the state's performance under the Ayushman Bharat and Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana schemes, saying more than 2.6 lakh people have received treatment since April 11. He said Odisha ranks second in the country in terms of enrolment under Ayushman Bharat and accused the opposition of spreading misinformation about the scheme's performance. "Under the Ayushman Bharat and Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana, over 2.6 lakh people have received treatment and benefited within the last three months since its launch on April 11 this year. Odisha ranks second after Uttar Pradesh in terms of enrollment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme... This is a strong slap to the opposition, which had claimed that Ayushman Bharat was not functioning properly in the state. Odisha has secured the second position in providing benefits under both Ayushman Bharat and the Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana," Mahaling told ANI. He credited the success of the schemes to the state government's commitment to healthcare. On April 11, Union Minister JP Nadda launched the 'Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana', 'Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana', and 'Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana' in Cuttack, in the presence of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. According to the National Health Authority, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY is the largest health assurance scheme in the world, which aims at providing a health cover of Rs five lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation to over 12 crores poor and vulnerable families (approximately 55 crore beneficiaries) that form the bottom 40 per cent of the Indian population. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Odisha government's flagship 'Subhadra' scheme in Bhubaneswar. Under this scheme, eligible women in Odisha aged 21 to 60 years will receive Rs 50,000 over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29. The amount will be disbursed as Rs 10,000 annually in two equal installments, directly credited to Aadhaar-linked, DBT-enabled bank accounts.

Cardiologist explains if chewing ginger or sitting on the floor can actually help you during a heart attack

In an April 15 YouTube video by HIIMS, Acharya Manish ji, an Ayurveda health expert, shared 'a crucial life-saving tip for sudden heart attacks'. According to him, if someone experiences a heart attack, the first thing to do is to make them sit on the ground. After seating them, immediately give them ginger to chew, he explained in Hindi in the clip. Also read | Shefali Jariwala death: Cardiologist explains steroids, drug overdose, hormonal therapy can increase heart attack risk The cardiologist said that chewing ginger may give a false sense of doing something helpful and cause euphoria, but it will not prevent or improve the heart condition. (Freepik) 'This information is not true' According to him, this is a simple yet effective remedy that can help save a life. He shared that the ginger should be chewed thoroughly until the person starts feeling relief and, ideally, until tears start to drop from their eyes. This process has been known to help '99 percent of people recover or stabilise before the ambulance arrives', he added. While ginger is known for its powerful medicinal properties – from aiding blood circulation to reducing inflammation – is it true that it can even help relieve chest pain during a heart attack? To learn more, HT Lifestyle tapped Dr Varun Bansal, consultant, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, who said, 'This information is not true.' Chewing ginger advisable for heart attack patients? Dr Bansal explained, 'While ginger, over a period of time, is considered to have antioxidant properties and does play some role in preventing hypertension or even cardiovascular disease, that benefit is seen only over the long term. In an acute setting — such as when a patient is actually having a heart attack — ginger has no role.' He added, 'As shown in the video, making the person sit or asking them to chew ginger is not advisable. In fact, during such an emergency, the patient should be made to lie down, rest, and emergency medical services should be activated immediately. Some medications can be taken at home in such situations, but if we are strictly discussing home remedies, it must be clearly understood that these medications should only be taken under medical guidance — preferably under a telephonic prescription from a specialist.' According to the doctor, making the person sit with their legs crossed or pulled close to the abdomen, as shown in the video, will not have any beneficial effect: 'In fact, it may give a false sense of doing something helpful and cause euphoria, but it will not prevent or improve the condition. Even chewing ginger will not help in an acute cardiac event.' Dr Bansal added, 'So, to reiterate, the information shown in the video (by HIIMS) is not true. The only effect of ginger that has been studied and established over the years is its long-term antioxidant benefit and some protective effect against hypertension and cardiovascular disease. But this is in the context of long-term consumption — not in acute situations such as a heart attack.'
