I also recall that in the late 20th century there was a situation when many native Palestinians fled Israel with Yasser Arafat and the PLO, and camped up in Lebanon under the protection of the Lebanese government. Israel was unhappy with this, pursued the Palestinian refugees with Biblical violence and reduced Beirut to rubble. The jewel of the Mediterranean was no more and Israel had no immediate economic rival in the Middle East.
The state of Israel was created by the British after the end of World War Two from the remains of the Ottoman Empire. They had not forgiven the Turks for siding with the Germans during World War One. They wanted to create a new world order and for the British to have major influence in this new world order. They carved up the Arab states into separate ad hoc states, which was opposed by TE Lawrence who had built up a relationship with the Arab people. Small-minded bureaucrats with no significant battlefield experience took over.
The British created Israel with the intention for it be a client state, but Britain had lost its influence in the world as many former colonies had gained independence and did not bow to 'mother England' any longer. This came to the fore during the fiasco that was the Suez Crisis. Great Britain was no longer the world power it thought it was. Israel was no longer a client state of GB but became a client state of the US and has been ever since. Everything Israel does is okayed by the US.

Yasser Arafat and the PLO were bombed out of Lebanon and returned to Palestine, Gaza and the West Bank. Israel had further plans. Under the Israeli government's control, Mossad infiltrated [[Gaza]] and encouraged young radicals to oppose Arafat and El Fatah, and to do this they paid them millions of dollars and supplied them with arms.
That was the origin of Hamas. Hamas are an Israeli creation.
Hamas won the elections in Gaza. Yasser Arafat and El Fatah were ejected to the West Bank.
Israel has infiltrators in Gaza; nothing of significance happens in Gaza that Israel is not aware of. The Israeli government was made aware by its own observers and by Egypt that something was brewing in Gaza before October 7 2024. They deliberately chose to take no action. The result was what we all own know. Many female members of the IDF who had the responsibility of observing Gaza were slaughtered.
This gave Netanyahu the excuse to launch a full-scale attack on Gaza in search of the hostages, it also gave the 'hilltop boys' occupying the West Bank an excuse to attack and assassinate Palestinian residents of the West Bank. This was never about the hostages. That could have been resolved within weeks. This is about a deliberate land grab by the Israeli government of Gaza and the expulsion of all Palestinians from Israel, including the West Bank. Not only that, since the regime change in Syria the IDF have occupied 'defensive positions' in Syria. They have also launched missiles into Syria in support of Druze against Bedouins. There are Druze inhabitants of Israel but it is very hard to believe that Israel would launch missiles against Syria except for selfish reasons.

I have engaged in discussions via social media with American supporters of Israel who have accused me of being an anti-Semite who believes jihadist propaganda, but they have declared that Balfour promised them (although being American citizens, they identify definitely with Israel) the West Bank of the Jordan where the country called Jordan is.
All this, put together, makes me think that what Netanyahu is all about is to create Eretz Israel and occupy all the land that the previous state of Israel occupied.
Israel is a puppet state of the US. This leads me to believe that the US is fully supportive of this and why supine governments do not oppose what is quite plainly an international war crime.

Regina Spektor confronts pro-Palestine protesters who interrupted concert
Singer-songwriter Regina Spektor 's concert in Portland, Maine, was interrupted by pro-Palestine protesters on Saturday. Spektor, who is Jewish and emigrated from the Soviet Union to the US as a child, confronted the protesters, stating her show was 'not the place for that conversation' and that they were 'just yelling at a Jew'. She encouraged those disrupting the performance to leave, with some audience members subsequently departing the venue. Spektor referenced her family's history of escaping persecution, noting she only speaks English because they fled a country where Jews were 'othered'. Spektor, 45, has voiced her support of Israel in the past, including two days after Hamas's 7 October 2023 attack at Nova Music Festival.

As scholars of genocide, we demand an end to Israel's atrocities
The world has stood by as Israel has murdered tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, wounded more than double that number, buried countless more under the rubble and devastated civilian infrastructure. The territory's survivors, displaced repeatedly by the Israeli military, are in a state of enforced starvation and utter precarity. Despite Israel's ban on international journalists, witnesses and victims are livestreaming unbearable images and videos of emaciated children and adults shot while desperately seeking aid. Israeli officials have proposed the construction of what would be concentration camps and the deportation of surviving Palestinians. Motivated by our deep scholarly and ethical engagement with political violence and mass atrocity, including the Nazi genocide of Jewish people, we helped found the Genocide and Holocaust Studies Crisis Network in April. More than 400 scholars of genocide and Holocaust studies from two dozen countries joined within weeks of its launch. The rapid growth of the group testifies to the urgency of this moment. Today, along with hundreds of humanitarian organizations, dozens of governments, and millions of protesting students and citizens across the globe, we call for immediate concrete measures to prevent further atrocity crimes and to protect civilians. Since the 7 October massacre, Israeli officials and their accomplices have justified genocidal violence against Palestinians by equating Hamas with Nazism, instrumentalizing the memory of the Holocaust to advance, rather than prevent, mass violence. Meanwhile, too many governments materially support the genocide in Gaza while silencing protest. Even as the tone of some official statements has become more critical of Israel in recent weeks, many states continue to supply Israel with lethal weapons, shield Israeli leaders from international arrest warrants and fuel investment in the Israeli war economy. International pressure can work, but we need much more of it. The emergency is in front of us. And yet, some prominent scholars of the Holocaust continue to engage in open denialism or outright approval of mass atrocities perpetrated by Israel. Scholarly associations, universities and institutions dedicated to Holocaust research, education and commemoration not only remain silent in the face of Israel's genocidal assault on Gaza but provide ideological cover for Israel's blatant violations of international law. Institutions such as Yad Vashem and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum adhere to a 'Palestine exception' when opposing genocide and mass atrocity. At the same time, organizations dedicated to combating prejudice, such as the Anti-Defamation League, use spurious accusations of antisemitism to silence or discredit those who dare to speak out. We are determined to challenge this moral and political capitulation. We created the Genocide and Holocaust Studies Crisis Network to do just that. We pledge to support Palestinians as they exercise their rights to education and cultural heritage in the face of massive destruction of their schools, archives and memory sites. We commit to pressuring our institutions to confront the contradictions between their stated commitment to 'never again' and their silence or complicity in the face of Gaza. In light of ongoing genocidal violence and the return of authoritarian regimes, we will provide new resources and syllabuses in order to teach rigorously about the past in the context of our ever more vulnerable present. We will offer solidarity and support to our students and colleagues who run grave personal and professional risks for speaking out. We contest the widespread 'conspiracy of helplessness' and the normalization of mass violence and starvation in Gaza. We have learned from history that there are many ways in which states can take action in response to crimes against humanity. We urge all states who signed the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to fulfill their responsibilities under international law: demand and enforce a permanent ceasefire, an arms embargo, the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, unimpeded distribution of humanitarian aid, and equality and self-determination for all Palestinians. As members of the Genocide and Holocaust Studies Crisis Network, we say: it is not too late to save lives. End the genocide now. Taner Akçam, Marianne Hirsch and Michael Rothberg are founding members of the Genocide and Holocaust Studies Crisis Network

UK PM Starmer recalls cabinet to discuss Gaza peace plan
LONDON, July 29 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold an emergency cabinet on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Gaza and a proposed peace plan as he comes under mounting pressure from his own party to recognise a Palestinian state. Starmer has taken the rare step of recalling his cabinet during the summer holidays to discuss how to deliver more humanitarian aid to Gaza. In a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Scotland on Monday, Starmer discussed the need for a ceasefire in Gaza and what he called the "revolting" humanitarian crisis. Britain is working on the plan with France and Germany after a call between the leaders of the three countries last week. Starmer has not shared details of the plan, but over the weekend he compared the proposals to the "coalition of the willing", the international effort to support Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire in its war with Russia. Starmer's spokesman said he would discuss the plan with other international allies and countries in the Middle East. War has raged in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian militants Hamas for the past 22 months. Israel has been facing growing international criticism, which its government rejects, over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. With warnings people in Gaza are facing starvation, growing numbers of lawmakers in Starmer's Labour Party want him to recognise a Palestinian state to put pressure on Israel. British foreign minister David Lammy will attend a United Nations conference in New York on Tuesday to urge support for a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians. Successive British governments have said they will formally recognise a Palestinian state when the time is right, without ever setting a timetable or specifying the necessary conditions. The issue has come to the fore after President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday France would recognise Palestine as a state. Starmer has so far rejected plans to immediately recognise a Palestinian state, saying he was focused on "practical solutions". Last week, more than 200 British members of parliament from nine parties signed a letter Friday calling for an immediate recognition of a Palestinian state.
