"Lilo & Stitch" First Reactions Praise Film as Disney's Best Live-Action Remake
Disney's latest live-action remake, '
Lilo & Stitch
,' has been screened for select members of the press, and the first reactions to the film were overwhelmingly positive.
Critic Wendy Lee Szany wrote on X, 'Lilo and Stitch is the best Disney live-action to date. Seeing Stitch in his live-action form on the big screen brings on a huge wave of nostalgia. Tons of laughter and heartwarming moments. The film hits similar beats to the original, as well added something new flavors.'
Journalist Laura Sirikul wrote on X, 'Lilo and Stitch was heartwarming & really gave the official film more depth to Lilo & Nani. Maia Kealoha is a STAR! The Stitch was so well made. I never imagined in 23 years they'd be able to merge animation w/ live action this well. It was magical. Very sweet.'
The original 'Lilo & Stitch' was released in 2002, making this the most recent animated movie that Disney has turned into live-action, and the first from the 2000s.
Both movies follow a young, lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo who finds an adorable, blue, and chaotic alien she names Stitch. With her big sister Nani, Lilo raises Stitch and teaches him the meaning of family, or 'ohana.'
The cast includes Maia Kealoha as Lilo; Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani; Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Stitch's alien creator who comes looking for him; Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley; Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles; Hannah Waddingham as the Grand Councilwoman; and the original movie's co-director and co-writer Chris Sanders, returning as the voice of Stitch. Tia Carrere, who was the original voice of Nani, is also back playing a social worker this time around.
The first 'Lilo & Stitch' was a box office success and grossed $273 million worldwide from an $80 million budget. It was nominated for best animated feature at the Academy Awards, but lost to 'Spirited Away.' It went on to spawn several sequels, TV shows and video games, thanks to Stitch's popularity with kids.

is a cute reimagining that mostly captures the original's spirit through a modern-day lens. Lilo and Nani's relationship feels even more heartfelt. It's still raw, real, and central to the story's emotional core. Of course Stitch brings hilarious chaos.

#LiloandStitch
is the best live-action remake of a Disney animated film by far! The casting features returning and new actors, and they were all solid. The story is very close to the original and will for sure make fans happy. Elvis music and the classic songs are back.

Gal Gadot Blames "Snow White" Flop on Politics
Yara Sameh Gal Gadot is opening up on why Disney's live-action 'Snow White' remake underperformed at the box office. During a recent appearance on the Israeli TV program ' The A Talks ,' in which guests are interviewed by individuals on the autism spectrum, Gadot blamed the failure of Disney's live-action remake was partially due to the "pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel" amid the ongoing conflict with Palestine. The remake, in which Gadot played the role of the Evil Queen, tanked at the box office and was poorly received by critics. It grossed a mere $205.7 million worldwide, failing to make back its huge production budget, and garnered an average 38% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes site. Critics highlighted its bland production choices, uneven tone, and hit-or-miss songs. The film also suffered a wave of negative press in the months leading up to its release, with rumours of an on-set feud between Gadot and co-star Rachel Zegler and controversy over casting decisions. "I was sure this movie was going to be a huge hit," she said. "And then 7 October happened, and what happens – and it happens in all kinds of industries, including in Hollywood – is that a lot of pressure is put on celebrities and actors and creators to bring up things against Israel, and it happened,". Gadot continued: "I can always explain and try to give context about what's happening here. And I always do that. But in the end, people make their own decisions. And I was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that and that it didn't do well at the box office." The film faced boycott calls from pro-Palestine groups due to the involvement of Gadot, a staunch supporter of Israel and former soldier in the Israeli military. Zegler, 24, who played the film's titular character, expressed support for Palestinians on social media, fuelling rumours of a feud with Gadot. On Sunday, Gadot took to her Instagram Stories to clarify her comments, saying that 'the film didn't fail solely because of external pressures.' 'I was honored to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart,' she wrote. 'Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place. When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way. They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress. That's the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question.' Gadot added, 'Of course, the film didn't fail solely because of external pressures. There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

Disney, Webtoon Ink Deal to Bring 100 Marvel, Star Wars & More Titles to Webcomics App
Yara Sameh Spider-Man, Captain America, Darth Vader, Beauty and the Beast, and more from Disney's intellectual-property treasure chest are coming to Webtoon — with about 100 titles from the Mouse House to hit the popular webcomics app in the next years. The deal between Webtoon Entertainment and Disney spans webcomics featuring iconic characters from Disney, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, and Star Wars. Those will include existing comics and graphic novels from Disney's catalog reformatted for Webtoon's vertical-scroll app, in addition to all-new original titles that are currently in development. The Disney webcomics will be available in a dedicated section of the Webtoon English-language app. Globally, Webtoon has around 155 million monthly active users. Financial terms of the multiyear deal aren't being disclosed. "The Webtoon pact is one of the biggest we have ever done,' said Daniel Fink, senior VP, head of digital innovation at Disney Consumer Products. The first Disney-owned webcomic to debut will be the Amazing Spider-Man later in August. It will be followed by Marvel's Avengers, Star Wars, Alien and 'As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale' (with Belle and the Beast). Webtoon will be promoting the new Disney partnership at New York Comic Con, which runs October 9-12. In Webtoon's freemium model, the first few episodes of a webcomic are free to read; to get full access, users must purchase in-app 'coins' and redeem them for premium purchases. At press time, the pricing of the Disney comics on Webtoon was not available. The launch of Disney comics on Webtoon comes after the companies had been in talks for about a year. Fink pointed out that webcomics readership has grown dramatically in recent years and has attracted 'people who are not traditional comics readers.' Webtoon's base of millions of monthly active users for its English-language app was appealing to Disney, and Fink sees the deal as bolstering its reach internationally and with Gen Z audiences. 'We have such amazing stories at Disney and Marvel, and we want our stories to reach as many as people as possible,' Fink added. Both Disney and Webtoon say none of the webcomics produced under their deal will use AI technology. 'It's all traditional creative,' continued Fink. The new webcomics will be produced by Webtoon with Disney's approval, but the companies aren't sharing what characters will be in the mix except to say the titles will range 'from superhero epics to galaxy-spanning adventures.' Disney talked to multiple players in the webcomics space and 'we saw that Webtoon was the clear leader,' according to Fink. In addition, Webtoon Entertainment is based in L.A. (while its parent company, Naver Corp., is based in South Korea). 'Big picture, it was a pretty easy decision,' Fink noted. Disney joined Webtoon's roster of other content partners, which includes Warner Bros. Discovery's DC Comics, Discord and K-pop giant HYBE. For Webtoon's part, the company saw a huge opportunity to team with Disney, whose brands are 'among the most legendary, creative and successful in the industry,' said Yongsoo Kim, chief strategy officer and head of global at Webtoon. 'We believe teaming up together is mutually beneficial.' Webtoon Entertainment's brands and platforms, in addition to the Webtoon app, include user-generated fiction app Wattpad, Webtoon Productions, Studio N, Studio LICO, Webtoon Unscrolled, Line Manga and eBookJapan. In June 2024, Webtoon Entertainment went public with an IPO on the Nasdaq exchange. For 2024, the company reported $1.35 billion in revenue (up 5.1%) and a net loss of $152.9 million (versus a net loss of $144.8 million the year prior). Between 2017 and 2023, the company says, it paid out $2.8 billion to creators, with the top 100 creators earning more than $1 million and overall creators were paid an average of $48,000. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Johnny Depp Approached for "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" Return
Yara Sameh Johnny Depp has been approached for the sixth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly , franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed he has spoken to Depp about a new 'Pirates' movie. The producer feels optimistic that Depp could return to reprise his iconic role as Jack Sparrow. 'If he likes the way the part's written, I think he would do it,' Bruckheimer noted. 'It's all about what's on the page, as we all know… We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven't quite gotten there yet, but we're close.' Depp headlined five 'Pirates' movies from 2003 to 2017, all of which grossed more than $650 million at the worldwide box office. 2006's 'Dead Man's Chest' and 2011's 'On Stranger Tides' both topped the $1 billion mark. The actor's future with the Disney-backed franchise has been a question mark following his legal troubles and his 2022 trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. After Depp's legal victory, he has been busy mounting a Hollywood comeback with the Lionsgate action-thriller 'Day Drinker,'. This only put more speculation over whether he would be open to collaborating again with Disney (and vice versa). With Depp front and center, the 'Pirates' movies have collectively grossed $4.5 billion. The road to a new 'Pirates' movie has been a long one. In summer 2020, Disney was reported to be in early development on two 'Pirates' movies: A reboot led by Margot Robbie and a sixth film in the original franchise written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, the latter of whom co-wrote the first four 'Pirates' movies. However, Robbie told Vanity Fair in November 2022 that Disney was not interested in her 'more of a female-led' movie, although Bruckheimer downplayed the claim by later telling EW there was still room for both 'Pirates' movies to exist and 'I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.' As for the other 'Pirates' movie, Bruckheimer told the outlet last summer that screenwriter Jeff Nathanson had boarded the project. Nathanson wrote the script for the last 'Pirates' movie, 2017's 'Dead Men Tell No Tales.' 'He's cracked it,' Bruckheimer said of Nathanson's script. 'He's got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we'll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.' Whether or not Nathanson's script is a new draft of Mazin's or an entirely original screenplay remains to be seen. Mazin told the Los Angeles Times last year that his script for 'Pirates 6″ was so weird he was surprised Disney signed off on it. He added: 'We pitched it and thought there's no way they're buying it, it's too weird. And they did! And then we wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone's waiting around.' Bruckheimer also said last summer that he would be open to bringing Depp back for the Nathanson-penned movie. He explained: 'It's a reboot, but if it was up to me, [Johnny] would be in it. I love him. He's a good friend. He's an amazing artist and he's a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page, that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.' Depp's last Hollywood studio movie was 2018's 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.' He had just finished his first day of filming the sequel, 'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,' when Warner Bros. asked him to exit the movie a day after he lost his 2020 libel trial against The Sun. The actor sued the U.K. publication for referring to him as a 'wife beater,' but the court ruled this characterization of Depp was 'substantially true.' Depp was eventually recast in the sequel with Mads Mikkelsen. A second trial centered on Depp took place in the U.S. in 2022 after Depp sued ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in which she referred to herself as 'a figure representing domestic abuse.' The outcome of this trial was more in Depp's favor, as the jury ultimately ruled that Heard did defame Depp in the op-ed (although the jury also ruled that Depp defamed Heard in the course of fighting back against her charges). read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani
