Puri (Odisha) [India], June 29 (ANI): Following the tragic stampede during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri that claimed three lives and left several injured, the Odisha government has transferred the Puri Superintendent of Police and Collector.
Pinak Mishra has been appointed as the new SP of Puri, while Chanchal Rana replaces Siddharth Shankar Swain as the new Collector.
These changes come in the wake of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's directive for a detailed administrative inquiry to be conducted under the supervision of the Development Commissioner.
The CM also ordered strict action against those found negligent in their duties.
Speaking after his appointment, SP Pinak Mishra said, 'This is the order of 'Mahaprabhu' that I have appointed as the SP of Puri once again. We will ensure that the 'Rath Yatra' concludes peacefully. I urge the devotees to coordinate with the administration and follow the guidelines issued by the administration.'
Newly appointed Collector Chanchal Rana also spoke to ANI, saying, 'As per the will of Mahaprabhu and the instructions of the state government, I have taken charge as Puri Collector today. Our main priority is to ensure that devotees from across the world have a pleasant and joyful experience during the Rath Yatra. The police and the administration have taken all the steps. We also urge devotees to avoid overcrowded areas.'
Earlier in the day, Odisha Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi were suspended for dereliction of duty related to the stampede incident.
The stampede occurred during the Rath Yatra in Puri, as overcrowding led to the unfortunate deaths of three devotees and injuries to several others.
Expressing deep sorrow, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased devotee.
The Chief Minister ordered a detailed administrative inquiry under the supervision of the Development Commissioner and instructed the transfer of the District Collector.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that Rath Yatra is a source of pride for Odisha and assured strict action against those responsible for the mishap. He emphasised that such incidents must not recur, ensuring the safety and sanctity of the festival in the future.
Earlier today, CM Mohan Charan Majhi apologised and sought forgiveness from devotees, following a stampede during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, in which at least three people died and several were injured. He further directed the authorities to initiate action against those responsible.
Posting on social media platform X, Chief Minister Majhi said, 'Due to the intense eagerness among devotees to have a glimpse of Mahaprabhu at Sharadhabali, an unfortunate incident occurred because of the resulting jostling and chaos. Personally, my government and I seek forgiveness from all devotees of Lord Jagannath. We express our condolences to the families of those devotees whose lives were lost at Sharadhabali and pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannath to grant them the strength to bear this profound sorrow.'
He added that an investigation will be conducted into the security lapse and action will be taken against those responsible.
'This negligence is unforgivable. An immediate investigation into the security lapse will be conducted, and I have directed that necessary steps be taken to initiate exemplary action against those responsible,' Majhi's X post read.
The stampede claimed the lives of three people and injured several early this morning near the Gundicha Temple in Puri.
During the annual Rath Yatra, a massive crowd of devotees pull the holy chariots of the three deities - Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Shubhadra, which are taken to the Gundicha Temple, a short distance from the Jagannath Temple.
The three deities spend a week at the Gundicha Temple before returning to Jagannath Temple. This year, the Rath Yatra commenced on Friday. (ANI)

Hyderabad, June 30 (UNI) The second edition of the Industrial Innovation & Technology Expo (IITEX 2025), organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), concluded on a high note at the Hitex Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad yesterday. The three-day event attracted over 10,000 visitors and featured more than 110 exhibitors representing key sectors such as mobility, renewable energy, packaging, food processing, industrial automation, and smart technologies. Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, who attended the valedictory session as the Chief Guest, said Telangana's industrial success was no accident but the outcome of visionary policies and inclusive governance. He praised the innovations on display—from 3D printing to industrial robotics—stating that they made it clear that "the future is already here." He urged FTCCI to transform IITEX into an annual flagship event and take it beyond Hyderabad to tier-2 and tier-3 cities to ensure broader access to industrial innovation and technology. The Minister noted that Telangana's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for the first quarter of FY25 recorded a Compound Monthly Growth Rate (CMGR) of 2.90 percent, which is nearly six times the national average of 0.52 percent. He attributed this exceptional performance to the state's robust, inclusive, and forward-looking policies. Emphasising the importance of the MSME sector, he said it had been neglected over the past decade. In response, the Telangana government had introduced a progressive and future-ready MSME policy designed to promote revival, resilience, and innovation. Sridhar Babu also shared that Telangana attracted Rs 3.25 lakh crore in new investments between 2021 and 2024, and completed industrial proposals worth nearly Rs 75,000 crore, as reported by the MSME Export Promotion Council. He highlighted the growth of the life sciences sector, which saw Rs 40,000 crore in investments and the launch of 150 new projects, generating 51,000 direct and 1.5 lakh indirect jobs. He further mentioned that aerospace and defence had emerged as another major focus area. He reiterated the government's commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by establishing dedicated MSME parks aimed at making them crorepati. FTCCI President Dr Suresh Kumar Singhal said the expo aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and empowered MSMEs by providing access to cutting-edge technologies. He expressed pride that the event commenced on World MSME Day, honouring the vital role played by MSMEs in India's economic development. The expo also featured special pavilions by T-Hub, T-Works, NASSCOM, CDSC, and others, with support from the Ministry of MSME (Government of India under the PMS Scheme), the Government of Telangana, NITI Aayog's Invest India, NSIC, TGREDCO, RICH, and AIC. Dedicated startup zones curated by T-Hub and NASSCOM showcased more than 40 emerging ventures. Expo convenor Vimlesh Gupta said IITEX 2025 served as a platform for transformation, connecting traditional industries with disruptive innovations from startups. While IITEX is currently a biennial event, FTCCI announced its intention to make it an annual flagship industrial expo, further strengthening Telangana's position as a hub for industrial innovation. Utnoor cops identify fake certificate scammers
Adilabad: Following a report published in The Hans India on April 28, highlighting how individuals secured army jobs using fake certificates centered around Islamnagar village in Ichoda Mandal, Adilabad district, the district police intensified an investigation. On Sunday, Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh IPS held a press meet to reveal the details. On June 25, police at Ichoda station discovered that a man identified as Sahani Suraj had submitted a fake residence certificate claiming to be from Islamnagar and secured a job in CISF. However, verification revealed he was actually from Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation uncovered that nine other individuals from UP contacted locals in Ichoda to obtain Aadhaar and residence certificates, each paying Rs 1 lakh. Initially, Deepak Tiwari paid Rs 4,000 for a fake Aadhaar card. When the Panchayat Secretary refused to sign the residence certificate, former Sarpanch's husband Shaikh Fareed and Shaikh Khaleem forged the secretary's signature and applied through MeeSeva to obtain a fake certificate. After Deepak secured the job, the remaining eight followed the same process. Verification later confirmed that none of them were residents of Islamnagar. Despite this, Fareed and Khaleem created and provided fake documents to all of them. A total of Rs 9 lakh was collected, of which Rs 3 lakh was taken by the duo, and Rs 6 lakh was reportedly sent to Hurlik, UP. When Jadhav Gajanand, a local from Islamnagar, learned of the scam, he tried to extort money from them. In response, Fareed and Khaleem paid him ₹20,000. All three—Fareed, Khaleem, and Gajanand—were remanded on June 28. ASP Kajal Singh IPS stated that the accused encouraged outsiders to use fake certificates to secure defense jobs and that they are currently employed. Further investigation is ongoing, and more details will be revealed soon. The press meet was also attended by Ichoda CI Bandari Raju and SI V Vishnuvardhan.
