After receiving glowing reviews, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy had the highest-grossing opening weekend for a rom-com in the UK and Ireland ever, breaking a record previously held by film number two, The Edge Of Reason (making it even more bizarre that the film went straight to streaming across the pond).
Mad About The Boy brings back a host of former cast members from the first three films, including Colin Firth and Hugh Grant as Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver, Jemma Jones and Jim Broadbent as Bridget's parents, Emma Thompson as her gynaecologist-turned-confidante and, of course, Renée Zellweger as the titular heroine.
But the film also introduces us to some exciting new additions, including love interests, rivals, colleagues and neighbours.

Leo Woodall has skyrocketed to global fame in the last few years thanks to his performances in award-winning shows like The White Lotus and Netflix's One Day.
He can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ thriller Prime Target playing an expert mathematician, and has also had smaller roles in Cherry, Vampire Academy, Citadel and, naturally, Holby City.
As well as his Oscar-nominated performance in the hard-hitting drama 12 Years A Slave, British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor's CV includes appearances in the films Kinky Boots, Love Actually, Children Of Men, Doctor Strange and the remake of The Lion King, lending his voice to the villainous Scar.

Aubrey Plaza to star as Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss in new biopic
Aubrey Plaza is set to return to the spotlight with a characteristically offbeat new role portraying Heidi Fleiss, the infamous Hollywood madam. Titled 'The Heidi Fleiss Story,' the dark comedy biopic will follow the chaotic final days leading up to Fleiss's 1993 arrest, when authorities exposed her high-end prostitution ring operating in Los Angeles, according to Deadline and other industry publications. Plaza, who splits her time between Los Angeles and Marin County, will star and produce the film through her company, Evil Hag. The project marks her first major role since the death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, in January. Fleiss rose to prominence in the early 1990s for allegedly running a clandestine operation that catered to celebrities, executives and other powerful figures. She was said to have taken over the business from her mentor, convicted madam Elizabeth 'Madam Alex' Adams, and quickly expanded it into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. That empire collapsed in June 1993, when Fleiss was arrested and later charged with pandering, tax evasion and money laundering. Prosecutors alleged she laundered more than $1.5 million through shell companies and false records. The case drew national headlines, fueled by speculation over a still-sealed list of high-profile clients. Plaza has been gradually returning to public life following Baena's death by suicide. In February, she appeared on 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special,' wearing a pink tie-dyed T-shirt — a quiet tribute to Baena's pandemic-era hobby and the couple's wedding-day attire. The pair had been together for more than a decade, though they had separated in the months before his death. Plaza's upcoming slate also includes a leading role in 'Honey Don't!,' the latest film from Ethan Coen, arriving in theaters on Aug. 22. She also appears in Francis Ford Coppola 's 'Megalopolis' and previously earned praise for her performances in 'The White Lotus' Season 2 and in the Sundance Film Festival favorite ' My Old Ass. Hulu to Fully Combine With Disney Plus and Expand Globally: What We Know So Far
More than a year after launching its "Hulu on Disney Plus experience" in the US, Disney announced plans Wednesday to completely integrate Hulu into its Disney Plus streaming service. Additionally, Hulu will become available internationally once the merger happens next year, the company shared in its third-quarter earnings report. The Hulu tile was added to Disney Plus in March 2024, allowing subscribers who have both services to watch Hulu content within the Disney Plus app. The Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger said today that this fall, the Hulu tile will replace the Star tile on the service for international customers. He added that the new offering will give customers more choice and convenience. Pricing details and exact timeline were not discussed, nor do we know what new bundling options might open up down the road, but changes are on the way. "Over the coming months, we will be implementing improvements within the Disney Plus app, including exciting new features and a more personalized homepage," he said, "all of which will culminate with the unified Disney Plus and Hulu streaming app experience that will be available to consumers next year." Disney Plus viewers can watch movies and shows from brands like Star Wars and Marvel, a suite of live channels that includes ABC News and The Simpsons, and if they're subscribed to Hulu or ESPN, a selection of content from both services. According to an executive summary (PDF) shared ahead of Wednesday's earnings call, the merged version of the streaming app will offer "family programming, news, and industry-leading live sports content." Though Iger did not explicitly state whether Hulu will be phased out completely, he mentioned that the merge will result in "efficiencies when these are together. It will be on one tech stack, for instance, one tech platform." He hinted that the Hulu and Disney combo may result in new -- or more -- bundles for customers. "I imagine down the road, it may give us some price elasticity as well that we haven't had before," said Iger. "And it also provides us with a tremendous bundling experience because when you have the one app that has a significant amount of all of the Disney and the other Disney-branded programming with the general entertainment programming bundled, for instance, with the ESPN direct-to-consumer app." The media giant's new standalone sports streaming service -- dubbed ESPN -- will replace ESPN Plus and launch on Aug. 21 (rather than the fall) and be included in current Disney bundle offerings with pricing that starts at $36 a month to watch with ads. Once the Hulu and Disney Plus merger happens next year, customers may see new streaming packages from the company.
