CPI general secretary D Raja on Sunday said the INDIA bloc has decided to put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a statement on the Pahalgam terror attack during the upcoming Parliament session Talking to PTI Video a day after the opposition coalition's meeting, Raja said that another issue on which the ruling dispensation will be "cornered" is the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar."At the INDIA bloc's meeting yesterday, we had decided to put the government on the mat on the issue of the Pahalgam terror attack, which has raised a big question mark on our national security. We will force the prime minister to come out with a statement on the floor of the Parliament during the session beginning tomorrow," he said."Another issue that we will raise inside Parliament, as well as through protests outside, is the SIR, which is a dangerous move which threatens to delete the names of many voters in Bihar, especially Dalits and tribals," he added.Raja said there are a number of other issues like one nation one poll, delimitation and restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, on which the opposition would try to corner the government.Reacting to the recent spate of violent crimes in Bihar, he alleged, "The double engine government has proven to be a double disaster for the people. Anarchy prevails in states like Bihar and UP because of the politics of hatred, polarisation and pitting one community against the other, which is practised by the BJP-RSS combine."The CPI leader was in Patna to take part in the state council meeting of the party on the concluding day.

Along with this tariff, Trump also mentioned the possibility of imposing penalties on India for purchasing Russian oil and weapons. However, it is currently unclear how large those penalties might be. Does the US want to punish India? Experts are of the opinion that imposing penalties on India for purchasing Russian oil would be a direct violation of India's sovereignty. They argue that the United States has no authority to dictate how India should manage its international relationships. Although the US continues to increase pressure, a report by news agency Reuters states that the Indian government has made it clear that it will not alter its energy strategy. India maintains that buying oil from Russia is linked to its strategic autonomy and economic needs. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Washington has not yet issued an official response to Miller's remarks.

CPI backs protest against transfer of APSRTC land to Lulu group
VIJAYAWADA: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K Ramakrishna has called on citizens to unite in opposing the transfer of public lands to private entities, particularly the lease of the APSRTC old bus stand (Governorpet depot) in Vijayawada to the Lulu Group. Speaking at a roundtable meeting held at Dasari Bhavan under the CPI city committee's leadership, Ramakrishna extended CPI's support to the Citizens' Forum protest scheduled for August 6. He criticised the State government's decision to lease 4.15 acres of the Vijayawada bus stand, valued at approximately Rs 400 crore in the open market, and 13.7 acres in Visakhapatnam to the multinational company for 99 years at a nominal rate. Ramakrishna demanded the immediate withdrawal of G.O. No. 137, calling the move exploitative and questioning the government's motives in transferring public assets to private players. Former Mayor Jandhyala Shankar said the lease violated Supreme Court rulings and must be reversed. YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu, CPM's Donepudi Kashinath, and Congress city president Naraharisetti Narasimharao warned that the move could damage small businesses, increase unemployment, and cause environmental and traffic issues. The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution demanding a halt to the land transfers and prioritising local business, environmental protection, and public interests over corporate expansion.

ECI urges parties to appoint booth agents ahead of SIR rollout in Delhi
NEW DELHI: With the groundwork for a special voter list revision already underway, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed all state election officers to urge political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) without further delay. According to officials, the communication signals Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to be carried out in the capital soon. In a letter to state poll authorities, the Commission noted that the 'entire exercise of SIR will be incomplete without active participation of the political parties.' It emphasised the appointment of their BLAs. 'All political parties must be informed in writing and they should be persuaded for appointment of BLAs immediately so that these BLAs are in the field during SIR,' the letter stated. The ECI has also sought immediate submission of data on polling stations, BLOs, their supervisors, and the appointed BLAs. 'The training of BLOs is complete and we are waiting for further directions,' a senior official from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, said. Ahead of the rollout, the Commission has asked local authorities to complete several pre-revision tasks. These include rationalising polling stations, identifying new venues, appointing additional BLOs, and training officials in upgraded IT platforms.
