CPI general secretary D Raja on Sunday said the INDIA bloc has decided to put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a statement on the Pahalgam terror attack during the upcoming Parliament session Talking to PTI Video a day after the opposition coalition's meeting, Raja said that another issue on which the ruling dispensation will be "cornered" is the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar."At the INDIA bloc's meeting yesterday, we had decided to put the government on the mat on the issue of the Pahalgam terror attack, which has raised a big question mark on our national security. We will force the prime minister to come out with a statement on the floor of the Parliament during the session beginning tomorrow," he said."Another issue that we will raise inside Parliament, as well as through protests outside, is the SIR, which is a dangerous move which threatens to delete the names of many voters in Bihar, especially Dalits and tribals," he added.Raja said there are a number of other issues like one nation one poll, delimitation and restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, on which the opposition would try to corner the government.Reacting to the recent spate of violent crimes in Bihar, he alleged, "The double engine government has proven to be a double disaster for the people. Anarchy prevails in states like Bihar and UP because of the politics of hatred, polarisation and pitting one community against the other, which is practised by the BJP-RSS combine."The CPI leader was in Patna to take part in the state council meeting of the party on the concluding day.

New Delhi: The government has raised tax and penalty demand of over Rs35,105 crore and filed 163 prosecution complaints till March 31 under the foreign black money law, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. Minister of State (MoS) for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015, the government has recovered Rs338 crore towards tax/penalty/interest between July 1, 2015 and March 31, 2025. 'Till March 31, 2025, 1021 assessments have been completed under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015, raising tax and penalty demand of over Rs35,105 crore approximately and total 163 prosecutions complaints have been filed,' Chaudhary said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha. The tax demand gets crystallised conclusively when appeals, if any, before CIT(A), ITAT, High Court and Supreme Court are decided. Under the Black Money Act, 2015, it is mandatory for assesses to disclose all foreign assets and income in specified schedules while filing I-T returns. Any non-disclosure attracts a penalty. Danger of ‘mass disenfranchisement': In meet with EC, CPI(ML) demands halt to Bihar SIR
Highlighting what it described as the danger of 'mass disenfranchisement', the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation Tuesday demanded that the Election Commission stop its ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. A delegation of CPI (ML) leaders met the three-member commission on Tuesday, as a part of the EC's ongoing initiative to interact with national and state parties on the issue. The SIR was started in Bihar with the EC's order on June 24. As per the order, all 7.8 crore electors of Bihar have to fill enumeration forms by July 25 in order to be included in the draft roll to be published on August 1. In addition, for all those added to the rolls after January 1, 2003, the EC has asked for documents to establish eligibility, including citizenship. 'On the basis of our experience of the first four weeks of the SIR drive in Bihar, we are afraid that mass disenfranchisement remains a very real danger for Bihar's poor, women, migrant workers and young electors, with all its alarming consequences,' the CPI (ML) said in a memorandum submitted to the EC. The party said that a large number of electors do not have the 11 documents listed by the EC, which do not include Aadhaar and voter ID. 'Even applying for possible documents like domicile certificate or caste certificate has now become inordinately difficult and in all likelihood, millions will not be able to submit any documents unless the EC accepts the Supreme Court suggestion of including Aadhaar cards, ration cards or voter cards. Leaving it to the EROs to decide about all such cases on the basis of local investigations would leave the electoral roll susceptible to all kinds of bias and arbitrary administrative errors and possible manipulations and thus render the integrity of the electoral roll highly suspect,' the party said. Meanwhile, the EC issued a statement Tuesday saying that 90.67% forms had been received so far and 52.30 lakh electors were not found at their addresses.

Kharge sums up oppn mood: It is 'neither happy, nor sad'
Mallikarjun Kharge NEW DELHI: As Rajya Sabha met Tuesday morning - the second day of Parliament's monsoon session - the effect of Jagdeep Dhankhar's departure weighed heavily in the Upper House. The VP is also the Rajya Sabha chairman. Dhankhar, usually, would not miss chairing RS proceedings at the beginning of the day, but on Tuesday, all eyes were on deputy chairman Harivansh as he strode into the House as the clock struck 11. He greeted MPs with a zealous 'Vanakkam' and started the business of the day by calling the first speaker of zero hour. However, proceedings were disrupted following vociferous protests from opposition MPs who trooped into the well when the chair denied admission of a dozen notices to discuss issues ranging from Dhankhar's "unexpected and unprecedented" resignation, special revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Pahalgam terror attack to Operation Sindoor. RS transacted no business during the day amid repeated adjournments. Similar scenes were witnessed in Lok Sabha which saw almost no business amid opposition protests. The corridors of Parliament were abuzz with speculation over Dhankhar's resignation. When TOI spoke to some MPs - governing and opposition - they said they were baffled by the development. Congress president and LoP in RS Mallikarjun Kharge said, "He has resigned on his own, and therefore, we don't have to say anything on that because humko khushi bhi nahin hai, gham bhi nahin hai (we are neither happy nor sad)." His remarks summed up the relationship between Dhankhar and the opposition. In RS, Harivansh said "further constitutional process concerning vacancy in the office of VP will be communicated as and when received".
