Newport MS meets Cymru Women's head coach at Senedd
The Cymru Women's head coach met Newport East MS John Griffiths.
The meeting took place in the Senedd ahead of the European Football Championships in Switzerland later this year.
The trophy was on display, with hopes it will return if Cymru wins the tournament.
Mr Griffiths wished Rhian Wilkinson and the team luck for their opening fixture against the Netherlands.
He said: "Taking part in the competition will have a positive impact on many girls and young women across Wales.
"They are an inspiration to all young women across the country, including here in Newport - and will help cultivate a new generation of strong female footballers."
Earlier this month, the FAW chose Lliswerry Primary School in Newport to launch its new school framework, CicStart.
Developed with the Youth Sport Trust, the resource aims to enhance football provision for children aged 7-11 in primary and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) schools across Wales.

Politicians enjoy a taster session at local bowls club
Local politicians enjoyed a taster session at Newport Indoor Bowls Centre. John Griffiths MS and Jessica Morden MP were welcomed to the centre by Welsh representatives Gavin and Kelly. They were given a tour of the facilities and discussed the centre's ambitions with director Graeme Howard and his team. Mr Griffiths said: "I was pleased to visit the Newport Indoors Bowls centre as part of my ongoing Active Newport campaign. "A lot of the conversation we had was around the importance of strong partnerships – and it was great to hear about the work Graeme and his team are looking to do with others at the Glebelands to improve sporting provision in this part of Newport. "I haven't had a go at bowls for over thirty years so it was nice to also have a go at a sport which requires lots of skill." Ms Morden said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Newport Bowls Club and to hear directly from Graeme and the team about the club and the huge successes of some of the players who train there. "I look forward to joining the team again when they're hosting a tournament."

Welsh football team dramatically escaped relegation but FAW sent them down anyway
Welsh football team dramatically escaped relegation but FAW sent them down anyway -Credit:Newport Corinthians/Facebook A Welsh football club escaped relegation in last-day drama but the FAW has relegated them anyway over a disciplinary issue in what the club has described as a 'catastrophic outcome'. Newport Corinthians drew 0-0 with Abercarn at Coronation Park in the shadow of the city's transporter bridge on Saturday afternoon which appeared to be enough to see them safe in the Ardal South East League. But celebrations have been put on hold because the FAW has told the club they are deducting Corinthians 18 points over failing to properly register a player during the season. The club explained the decision to deduct so many points which will relegate them from the league will have a significant impact on the club's youth teams, reserves, and supporters. In a statement on Sunday they said: 'Over the past few days Newport Corinthians AFC has been at the centre of a disciplinary ruling by the FAW resulting in an 18-point deduction from the Ardal South East League. We want to be clear: there was no attempt to deceive or gain an unfair advantage.' Corinthians, who are appealing the deduction, earned nine wins and five draws during the season meaning they should have 32 points. But the table now reads that the side have 14 points and will, as it stands, end the season rock bottom and fall out of the Welsh football league system and into the amateur regional leagues. Corinthians added: 'We firmly believe sporting competitions should be decided on sporting merit and that administrative errors should not result in catastrophic sporting outcomes – particularly in the context of an amateur club built on community, volunteers, and player development. 'That's why we are fighting to have this outcome reviewed and we are hopeful that the appeal process will recognise the context and fairness we believe is missing from the initial decision.' Started in 1961, the Corries are now one of Wales' biggest grassroots football clubs with 28 teams and more than 450 players.

Gavin Griffiths becomes first Nebraska basketball player to enter transfer portal
Gavin Griffiths becomes first Nebraska basketball player to enter transfer portal A Nebraska men's basketball forward has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Gavin Griffiths is the first Husker to enter their name into the portal this offseason. The 6 foot 7 inch sophomore played in 16 games last season and averaged 2.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. This was Griffiths' first season at Nebraska after transferring from Rutgers. He was a four-star prospect and top-50 recruit coming out of high school. Griffiths did not play during Nebraska's run at the College Basketball Crown Championship after dealing with a reported ankle injury. The forward is the team's first official departure since the portal opened. The Huskers have also added a couple of players to the roster in the last several weeks. Those two players are Pryce Sandfort from the Iowa Hawkeyes and Ugnius Jarusevicius from Central Michigan.
