Netflix Orders ‘Age Of Attraction' Dating Format From Velvet Hammer Media

Yahoo26-03-2025

EXCLUSIVE: Does age matter when it comes to dating? That's the question for Netflix's latest entry into the dating pool.
The streamer has greenlit Age of Attraction, a new dating format produced by Velvet Hammer Media, the company behind The CW's The Big Bakeover and Roku's Best Bite Wins.

In the series, age is thrown out the window when singles search for their soulmates, per the logline. Is love truly ageless, or will the years come between them?
Sam Dean, who served as showrunner on Netflix's Love Is Blind and has exec produced series including FBoy Island, and David Friedman, exec produer of Netflix's Temptation Island and showrunner of Bullsh*t: The Game Show, will serve as showrunners of the series.
Velvet Hammer Media bosses Jennifer O'Connell and Rebecca Quinn will also exec produce alongside their colleague Nick Alarcon, who has worked on series including Velvet Hammer's Empty Nest Refresh, will serve as co-EP.
O'Connell and Quinn launched Velvet Hammer in 2023 after they previously oversaw unscripted content at the then titled HBO Max. Endeavor invested in the business later that year and they struck a deal with Issa Rae's Hoorae to produce unscripted content last year. The company is also in development with projects at Hulu, NBC and Amazon.
Age Of Attraction comes as other shows realize the value of older contestants appearing on dating shows. ABC revealed earlier this week that season ten of Bachelor in Paradise will feature contestants from The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette for the first time, while Netflix also recently launched docuseries The Later Daters, which features singletons in the 50s, 60s and 70s and is exec produced by Michelle Obama
'At VHM we live to create formats that feel fresh, bold, and binge-worthy. With Age of Attraction, we're asking audiences if age is truly just a number. We're thrilled to partner with Netflix—home to some of the most iconic and addictive dating shows out there—and to collaborate with our amazing creative partners, led by our talented showrunners Sam Dean and David Friedman,' O'Connell and Quinn said.

Netflix just added a psychological thriller movie full of surprising twists — and it's one of Sigourney Weaver's best roles

Even though Netflix releases its lineup for each month, the streaming service occasionally adds movies not originally on the schedule, which can be easy to miss. In this case, 'Copycat' landed on Netflix U.S. on June 15, but thankfully, it didn't go unnoticed because it's already cracked the top 10 list. I'm not surprised people jumped on 'Copycat' since it has all the ingredients subscribers often look for: big stars like Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter and Dermot Mulroney, and a chilling serial killer story that might just get under your skin. This psychological thriller follows a criminal psychologist struggling with agoraphobia after a traumatic attack, who teams up with a detective to catch a serial killer replicating the methods of infamous murderers. While plot isn't the most original, the movie still makes for a gripping watch, and one that gets your adrenaline pumping. If you've scrolled through Netflix today and noticed 'Copycat' in the top 10, here's everything you need to know before adding it to your watchlist. 'Copycat' follows Dr. Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), a renowned criminal psychologist who becomes a recluse after surviving a traumatic attack by a deranged killer. Now agoraphobic and living in isolation, Helen is reluctantly pulled back into the world of crime-solving when a new serial killer begins targeting victims in San Francisco, each murder eerily mimicking the methods of infamous real-life murderers. Assigned to the case are Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and her partner Reuben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney), who turn to Helen for insight as the killings escalate. Despite her crippling fear of the outside world, Helen uses her expertise to identify the pattern behind the copycat killings. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. As the investigation intensifies, she and M.J. form an unlikely bond, working together to stay one step ahead of the killer, who seems to be watching Helen more closely than anyone realizes. 'The Silence of the Lambs' wasn't the very first Hollywood movie about serial killers, but its massive critical and box office success sparked a wave of similar movies that dominated the '90s before eventually fading out. One of these copycats is ... well, Jon Amiel's 1995 thriller 'Copycat.' While it might not surpass 'Silence of the Lambs' or even Brad Pitt's 'Seven,' it's still a pretty intense watch and makes for some chilling midnight viewing. It's refreshing to watch a thriller that centers on two smart, strong women, and even better that they're brought to life by Holly Hunter and Sigourney Weaver, two powerhouse actresses of their generation. There's real substance behind both characters, which helps 'Copycat' rise above just being another serial killer movie. 'Copycat' is very much a psychological study, taking time to explore the human side of its characters. Dr. Helen Hudson is dealing with some serious trauma and can't bring herself to leave the house, while Detective M.J. Monahan is driven by a strong commitment to solving the case and stopping the serial killer terrorizing the city. Without this character development, 'Copycat' would feel hollow in the landscape of serial killer thrillers. Director Amiel, known for the unique and highly praised 1986 BBC series 'The Singing Detective,' shows his expertise here by keeping the story tightly focused. The movie hardly ever wanders off track, always pushing the plot forward while keeping the tension just strong enough to stay gripping. Like classic studio movies that carefully balanced what the audience needed to know, this movie reveals just enough information to save you from feeling lost. While 'Copycat' definitely has its strengths, there are a few noticeable flaws. The whole idea of a killer copying famous murderers felt a little predictable at times, and you might find yourself guessing where the story was headed a bit too early. In some ways it shares too many similarities with 'Seven' for this reason. Outside of the two strong leads, most of the supporting cast doesn't get much time to be explored, which makes the world around them feel a little thin. I'm sure Netflix viewers will still enjoy 'Copycat' (and I think it's worthy of your time even with these flaws). Movies have long been drawn to exploring evil, and I think part of that comes from how our own fears tend to fuel our interest. If you haven't already added 'Copycat' to your Netflix watchlist, now's the time. The whole 'killer copying famous murderers' concept isn't exactly new, but this thriller handles it in a surprisingly smart and stylish way. And a big part of why it works so well is, of course, Sigourney Weaver. I already loved her (partly because she stars in my favorite franchise of all time, 'Alien') but she really shines here. I'd argue that 'Copycat' is one of her best roles and a big reason why it's well worth carving out two hours of your time. You don't need to take my word for it either, since 'Copycat' has a solid rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences rating it slightly lower at 64%. The site's critic consensus reads: 'Copycat's outstanding cast helps this often unpleasant thriller transcend the less palatable elements of its standard-issue story.' 'Copycat' is now streaming on Netflix. For more streaming recommendations, see what else is new on Netflix in June 2025.

The Odds Of Netflix's ‘Tires' Getting Renewed For Season 3

Tires Tires stands out as a fairly unusual Netflix production, given its subject matter, format and scale. Season 2 of Tires has just hit Netflix as of this past week, and viewers are likely wondering if it's going to land a season 3. Tires was not auto-renewed for season 3 when season 2 was greenlit. And in the wake of it airing now, it has not been confirmed it's getting a third season. However, I've been doing this long enough to make educated estimates, and in this case, Tires season 3 is almost a sure thing. We'll go through the five pillars of Netflix renewal below: Viewership: Tires season 2 debuted at #2 on Netflix's top 10 list in the US. Likely the only reason it's not #1 is because it's airing alongside the third season of Ginny and Georgia, which fans have been waiting an astonishing 2.5 years for. We don't have data past the top 10 list yet, but we know the show did extremely well in season 1, where it was second only to the smash-hit Bridgerton in streaming rankings in May 2024. Cost: Tires absolutely has to be one of the lowest-cost scripted series on Netflix. In addition to not having any big names outside of Shane Gillis (and whether you consider him a big name is debatable), the production value needed here in terms of location shooting and obviously zero VFX is incredibly low. In the context of Netflix's production pipeline, this is pocket change. It's also true that because of that, Tires can be released with year-long breaks, as is the case between seasons 1 and 2. Tires Reception: Season 2 of Tires jumped a full 30% from season, with critics going from a 40% score to a 71% score in season 2. But more importantly for Netflix, and what feeds into viewership, this past season has a 94% audience score, indicating that it's a crowd favorite. I think these kind of scores play into Netflix renewal consideration the least, as they simply want high viewership for low cost. But it doesn't hurt. Stickiness: This is the one point of data we have zero information about, whether or not viewers make it to the end of a season or not, which is a huge factor in seasonal renewal. But Tires? It's 10 episodes where most of them are barely 20 minutes long, an easy binge watch if there ever was one. So, I'm going all it. 100% chance that Tires is renewed for season 3, short of the entire cast just getting sick of it and walking away (fat chance). It may be a little bit of time until Netflix makes this official (everyone should be asking for raises at this point), but I am certain it will happen soon enough. If You Loved Matthew Goode And Kelly Macdonald From 'Dept. Q', Here's Where Else You Can Watch The Cast On TV Now

Dept. Q, the TV adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen's bestselling novel has already amassed a cult following, and it's no wonder – since its premiere on May 29, it has consistently held a spot in Netflix's top three TV shows. With the potential of a premiere of season two still a long while away, you might have found yourself missing the performances from lead actors Matthew Goode, Kelly Macdonald, Chloe Pirrie and more as well as the strong supporting cast. From psychological thrillers to crime dramas, many of these actors have appeared in other standout crime thrillers on both the big and small screen. Here, we break down some of the best films and series they've starred in—perfect for fans of Dept. Q, dark mysteries, and the cast members themselves... The ordeal sees his wealthy adoptive family being thrown into the chaos as buried secrets begin to surface. Matthew Goode stars as Philip Durrant, a paralysed former pilot whose sharp tongue and substance abuse masks his inner turmoil. When a whistleblower leaks highly confidential information that uncovers an illegal NSA operation to sway support for the Iraq War, she puts her life and freedom in jeopardy. Matthew Goode plays Peter Beaumont, a journalist with strong morals who helps break the explosive story. Stoker sees a teenage girl become more and more disturbed after the sudden arrival of her mysterious uncle, shortly after the death of her father. As hidden family secrets begin to surface, so does the threat of danger. Matthew Goode stars as Uncle Charlie, a mysterious and unsettling figure with a dangerous agenda. A grieving mother publicly accuses a man of murdering her child years earlier, which brings about a tense legal battle that prompts questions of morality, justice, revenge, and identity. Kelly Macdonald plays Anna Dean, the distraught mother at the heart of the trial. Based on a true story, a group of ageing criminals plan and execute one of the largest heists in British history by breaking into a high-security vault over a holiday weekend. Matthew Goode plays the Guv'nor, the evasive and calculated mastermind behind the operation When a hunter finds drug money in the American desert, he unintentionally sets off a deadly chain of events involving a ruthless killer and a worn out sheriff who must confront a changing world. Kelly Macdonald plays Carla Jean Moss, the innocent and tragic wife of the fugitive, caught in the violent aftermath of his choices. A discreet police unit must investigate corruption within their own law enforcement, which causes deep and dangerous conspiracies to surface as trust breaks down within the ranks. In season six, Kelly Macdonald plays DCI Joanne Davidson, a senior officer whose loyalties and secrets raise serious suspicion about her character. Jack Ryan follows a CIA analyst who suddenly finds himself thrust into dangerous field assignments, uncovering global conspiracies and threats. Alexej Manvelov plays Alexei Petrov, a Russian operative who is caught up in the complex web of international espionage.
