Conway Police Chief to be master of ceremonies at state law enforcement memorial
The annual ceremony honors the officers who have died in the line of duty and officers that were still active or retired that died in 2024. It is set to take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
'We encourage all citizens to attend this memorial as we remember those who dedicated their lives to guarantee safety and liberty for others,' JJ Jones, executive director of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers' Association, said. 'Their devotion and ultimate sacrifices to the citizens of this great state will never be forgotten.'
Chief Long, who is also President of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, will be the master of ceremonies. Richard Edwards, also of the Conway Police Department, will take part in the tolling of the bell.
Prayer, bagpipes and a memorial message are just a few things that will take place during the ceremony, a news release said. Members of the community are invited to attend to the event.

The young boy — whom the pair was babysitting — flashes confused and concerned glances between a teenage Jordan behind the camera and the vape owner as the girls laugh uncontrollably, the 8-year-old clip shows. 4 In the video, the young toddler sucked on the vape and coughed up a cloud of smoke. Jordan blamed typical teenage stupidity for the blatant disregard for the toddler's well-being in an apology video shared on her social media Monday. She said she was 15 and was grieving the recent death of her mother at the time the clip was filmed. 'I am a human, I make mistakes and this is one that I regret more than anything in this world. That moment does not reflect who I am today or the values that I live by. I cannot change what I did, but I can acknowledge how wrong it was and continue to hold myself accountable,' the TikToker said. 4 Jordan, who was 15 years old at the time, could be heard cracking up behind the camera. She said that the same day the video was recorded, she also 'fully cooperated with law enforcement' and 'took full responsibility' for the situation, adding that just being there and filming the moment alone made her 'just as guilty.' Jordan said that her mother had been murdered shortly before the ill-fated video was recorded and contended that she wasn't in the right headspace, while a provocative group of teens in her social circle and alcohol only exacerbated her delinquency. Not everyone online took the sympathy bait — even as others resonated based on their own experiences as 'literal menaces' during their testy teen years. 'I've grieved a lot but never once thought about hurting a CHILD while grieving,' one follower commented. 4 Jordan attributed her actions to her grief and to surrounding herself with the wrong group of people. NFL suspends Vikings' Jordan Addison for 3 games over DUI case
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was suspended for three games by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's personal conduct policy for a drunken driving case last year. Addison avoided a trial by pleading no contest to a lesser charge last month, after facing two misdemeanor DUIs for his arrest on July 12, 2024, when a California Highway Patrol officer found him asleep in his vehicle that was blocking a lane on an interstate exit near Los Angeles International Airport. Addison will be permitted to practice and play in exhibition games before the suspension kicks in for games against Chicago, Atlanta and Cincinnati. Addison, the 23rd pick of the 2023 draft, has 19 touchdowns and 1,786 receiving yards in his first two seasons to form a dominant duo with two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. But he was arrested for excessive speeding the week before training camp of his rookie year, and the drunken driving arrest last offseason came after another dangerous off-the-field decision. Addison was contrite and remorseful upon reporting to training camp last year, praising the Vikings for their support after he said he was in a "dark place" after the arrest. Without Addison for the first three games, new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will need to lean on depth wide receivers such as Jalen Nailor, rookie Tai Felton and newcomer Rondale Moore if he's ready to play following his ACL rehabilitation. Tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver and running back Aaron Jones also figure to be vital options during Addison's absence to help keep defenses from keying more heavily on Jefferson than they already do. Addison, who finished his college career at USC after starting at Pittsburgh, matched Odell Beckham Jr. for the fourth-most touchdown receptions in league history by players before their 23rd birthday. The Minnesota Vikings are set to begin the 2025 NFL season without one of their top two wide receivers. The NFL announced Tuesday it had suspended Jordan Addison for the first three games of the season for violating the league's Substances of Abuse Policy. The suspension stems from a 2024 incident during which Addison was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Addison's absence will create a temporary void in Minnesota's receiving corps opposite Justin Jefferson. Here's a look at the most likely candidates from the Vikings' wide receiver depth chart that could fill that hole. Who is Jordan Addison's backup? Jalen Nailor may not be Addison's true backup, but the Vikings' No. 3 receiver figures to see the largest increase in opportunities with Addison out of the lineup. Addison missed two games during the 2024 NFL season in Weeks 2 and 3 while dealing with an ankle injury. In those contests, Nailor played 104 of a possible 117 snaps while logging a combined six catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Logging similar production would give Nailor flex appeal across fantasy football formats. That said, it's worth wondering whether his ceiling will be capped if the Vikings try to ease first-year starter J.J. McCarthy into action as part of a run-heavy offense. Felton – a 6-2, third-round rookie out of Maryland – could also see more playing time if the Vikings want a wide-out with more size than the 5-7 Moore. The Vikings carried six receivers into Week 1 last season, so Addison's suspension could allow another two of the team's depth receivers to make the roster.
