Sharjah Education Academy joins World Education Research Association as Institutional Member

UAE-Ahmedabad flights: Airline operations back to normal following Air India crash
[Editor's Note: Follow KT's live blog for all the latest updates on the Ahmedabad plane crash.] Only one flight from the UAE to Ahmedabad was affected by the temporary closure of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, following the tragic Air India crash. Etihad flight EY 240 bound to Ahmedabad Airport from Abu Dhabi was delayed for two hours, an airline spokesperson confirmed to Khaleej Times. The Ahmedabad-bound flight was supposed to leave Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi at 2.05pm. It departed instead at 4.16pm (UAE time) and arrived in Ahmedabad at 8.32pm (India time). Subsequent Etihad flights, including EY 246, EY 1356 and EY 244 are expected to depart from Abu Dhabi as scheduled, according to live tracking. Meanwhile, Dubai-based carriers reported no delays in their operations on Thursday. Emirates flight (EK 538) and flydubai (FZ 437) were expected to depart as scheduled from Dubai International Airport (DXB) on time at 10.50pm and 11.10pm (UAE time), respectively. Air Arabia flight G9 418 is also scheduled to depart Sharjah International Airport at 12.25am (Friday), and is expected to touch down at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport terminal 2 at 4.35am (India time, June 13). flydubai sends condolences The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for London carrying 242 passengers and crew, went down around 2pm (India time). It crashed into a residential area five minutes after take-off in the Meghaninagar area, close to Ahmedabad international airport. Close to 300 people are feared dead. Dubai-based carrier flydubai has extended its condolences to all those affected by the plane crash. An airline spokesperson told Khaleej Times on Thursday: 'We are saddened to hear about the unfortunate incident today and extend our sincere condolences to all those affected. We are monitoring the situation closely and our flights to Ahmedabad are currently operating to schedule.'

DCD participates for the first time as part of the UAE delegation at the UN Conference of States Parties
Abu Dhabi – In line with its efforts to promote social development and strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as an inclusive city, the Department of Community Development (DCD) – Abu Dhabi participated for the first time as part of the United Arab Emirates delegation at the 18th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP-18), held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, with the participation of representatives from over 180 countries. This participation reflects DCD's role as the regulator of the social sector and the main driver of the empowerment and inclusion of People of Determination in Abu Dhabi, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Family and the UAE's Permanent Mission to the UN. It exemplifies a unified national approach that reflects the UAE's commitment to human rights and to building a cohesive and inclusive society. During the event, the Department presented Abu Dhabi's pioneering experience in improving the quality of life for People of Determination through the Abu Strategy for People of Determination. One of its key accelerator initiatives highlighted was the 'Disability Friendly City & Community Framework' which is currently being piloted on Yas Island in partnership with Aldar Properties, and in collaboration with strategic partners including the Department of Municipalities and Transport and the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority. The initiative aims to launch an 'Inclusive City Index' that can be applied globally. Since its inception, the Department has worked through such projects to provide an inclusive and empowering environment that enables all segments of society to actively participate in public life. Ahmedabad plane crash: Dubai's Indian residents pay tribute to victims

The gathering, originally convened to launch the 11th International Day of Yoga in Sharjah, also had a somber tone as residents reflected on the victims of the Air India crash. Addressing the attendees, Consul General of India in Dubai, Satish Kumar Sivan, requested the audience to pay their respects. 'Considering the huge disaster that has happened just about a couple of hours back in Ahmedabad, I would request everybody to rise for a minute's silence in honour of the departed souls,' he said, inviting the audience to pay their respects. The overall mood was subdued as Indian residents in the emirate learnt of one of their homeland's worst aviation tragedies in recent memory. An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed on Thursday morning, shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport. The flight, bound for London, had 232 passengers and 10 crew members on board. According to initial reports, there were no survivors. Wellness and unity through yoga Meanwhile, encouraging residents to find inner peace, the Indian mission launched the International Day of Yoga in alignment with the UAE's Year of Community. This year's event will take place in Sharjah at the Expo Centre on Saturday, June 21, from 5pm to 7pm, and is open to people of all nationalities. The mission is expecting approximately 5,000 participants to attend the rejuvenating session. Those interested can register by scanning a QR code or visiting the official registration website: Speaking about the significance of the event, the Consul General noted that yoga is a timeless gift from India to the world and continues to foster wellness and unity across cultures. Satish Sivan said, 'The interest and the participation has been growing year on year. Last year we had about 6000 people at least joining us at the World Trade Center in Dubai. This year we are doing it in Sharjah.' 'There's a lot of Indian community, which calls Sharjah their home. We thought it would be apt to take yoga to the Indian community in Sharjah. It is open for everybody in all across UAE. We hope to have good participation from the Indian community and also the wider international community. We know that yoga is today treasure for the whole world, and it is practiced across the world. We know that there are a lot of yoga enthusiasts across nationalities, and we hope to have all of them join us on that. Our website is now open.'
