Abandoned baby discovery exposes incest case, three arrested
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Naazron Abd Yusof said the arrests, made yesterday evening, followed investigations that revealed the baby was born from an incestuous relationship between a 39-year-old man and his 16-year-old daughter.
"The complainant, a 29-year-old security guard, was actually in cahoots with the man. The so-called discovery was fabricated to conceal the birth," he said in a statement today.
The teenage girl, who has stopped schooling, is believed to have given birth recently.
The baby, found alive at 1.56am on Aug 11, was in good health and has been placed under hospital observation.
Naazron said acting on information, police detained two men and one woman, aged between 16 and 39.
"The two male suspects have been remanded for one and six days respectively, while the female suspect has been released on police bail and is receiving medical treatment," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child and Section 376(3) for incest.
"If convicted under Section 317, the offender faces imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both. Section 376(3) carries imprisonment of between eight and 30 years and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane," Naazron said.
He urged anyone with information to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Hizwan Hamzah, at 019-6369835or the nearest police station.

Three Nigerians, Indonesian woman held over love scam in Melaka
MELAKA: Melaka police busted a love scam syndicate with the arrest of three Nigerian men and an Indonesian woman during pre-dawn raids at three apartment units in Taman Klebang Jaya here yesterday. Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects arrested were aged between 39 and 47, with various items such as computers and mobile phones worth RM15,000 seized in the 2.45am raids on Tuesday. "Initial investigations found that the love scam syndicate was operating at the premises for the past six months, with the suspects carrying out online fraud via Facebook accounts using various aliases. "All the suspects entered the country using student passes, but were found to have misused these documents by running a syndicate to deceive victims into giving them money," he said in a statement here today. He said social media analysis experts found that the syndicate targeted victims both locally and abroad, deceiving them with sweet words and false promises, urging them to transfer money to e-wallet accounts provided by the syndicate. Dzulkhairi said the suspects were remanded for 14 days until Aug 25, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
