Three Nigerians, Indonesian woman held over love scam in Melaka
Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspects arrested were aged between 39 and 47, with various items such as computers and mobile phones worth RM15,000 seized in the 2.45am raids on Tuesday.
"Initial investigations found that the love scam syndicate was operating at the premises for the past six months, with the suspects carrying out online fraud via Facebook accounts using various aliases.
"All the suspects entered the country using student passes, but were found to have misused these documents by running a syndicate to deceive victims into giving them money," he said in a statement here today.
He said social media analysis experts found that the syndicate targeted victims both locally and abroad, deceiving them with sweet words and false promises, urging them to transfer money to e-wallet accounts provided by the syndicate.
Dzulkhairi said the suspects were remanded for 14 days until Aug 25, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
He advised the public to exercise caution and be wary of sweet words or false promises from unfamiliar individuals, and suspicious phone numbers or bank account numbers can be verified on the website https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my, with complaints can be lodged via the National Scam Response Centre hotline at 997 to block any financial transactions if they have fallen victim to cyber fraud.

Etomidate will soon be classified as a Class C controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act and offenders caught using etomidate-laced e-vaporisers will be subject to mandatory supervision and rehabilitation. Repeat offenders are liable to be prosecuted and subject to jail for at least a year. More severe penalties apply to those selling, distributing or importing these devices, including imprisonment of up to 20 years and caning. Meanwhile, 100 individuals are under investigation for offences involving the sale, advertising or import of e-vaporisers under the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act with another 18 individuals facing charges in court for offences under the same Act. The possession, use or purchase of e-vaporisers carries a maximum fine of S$2,000. It is also an offence to import, distribute, sell or offer for sale e-vaporisers and their components

Police launch search for missing 15-year-old girl in Bachok

Bachok OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Azrie Sulaiman said the teenager, Tuan Nurul Ain Najihah Tuan Perang, was reported missing by her father, Tuan Perang Raja Husin, after he noticed at 6am that she was not in her bedroom. "The victim was last seen at 11.30 pm on Monday (Aug 11) at her home," he said in a statement Thursday (Aug 14). Mohd Azrie said the teenager, who had not been attending school since Form One, did not own a mobile phone and was found to have left home with her wallet and MyKad. Policeman killed after motorcycle grazes lorry in Bagan Serai
IPOH: A policeman was killed after the motorcycle he was riding grazed against a lorry, causing him to fall onto the road at KM94 of Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth in Taman Selinsing Indah near Bagan Serai on Wednesday (Aug 13). Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said that they received a report regarding the incident from a member of the public at 6.25pm. He said the victim, Constable Muhammad Hakim Danial Ruhiman, 23, from the Bagan Serai police station, died while receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital. "Initial investigations at the scene revealed that the victim was riding his motorcycle from Bagan Serai towards Taiping. When he reached the location, his motorcycle grazed against a lorry travelling in the same direction, causing him to fall onto the road. "When the investigating officer arrived, the lorry was no longer at the scene, and members of the public in the area were also unable to provide detailed information about the vehicle," he said in a statement Thursday (Aug 14). Comm Noor Hisam said the victim sustained serious injuries to the waist and legs. He said they are now reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) and dashcam footage from other vehicles to aid the investigation, in addition to efforts to locate the lorry and its driver. Those with information on the incident can contact the investigating officer, Insp Nur Hafilah Mohd Ibrahim, at 019-472 0231.
