Policeman injured as group attempts to hand over memorandum
In a statement on Wednesday (Aug 13), Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said a video of the incident showed a clash between participants and policemen on Jalan Parlimen.
"A policeman suffered injuries and was sent for treatment. An investigation paper has been opened under Section 353/427 of the Penal Code," he said.
He added that police remain committed to facilitating the right of the public to assemble publicly but that right must be practiced with care and prudence.
"Strict action will be taken on individuals or groups that cause extreme provocation or disturbance," he said.

Stabbing victim in Senawang had affair with suspect's wife, says cop
SEREMBAN: A 31-year-old husband fatally stabbed a 28-year-old man in Senawang near here on Monday (Aug 11), because the victim had an affair with his wife. Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof stated that a preliminary investigation showed the victim had known the suspect's wife for approximately a month prior to the incident. "The the motive for the incident, as we now understand, is that the suspect killed the victim after discovering his wife's affair. "The wife came to know the victim via social media," he said. He also advised the public to refrain from posting comments on social media, as the matter was still under investigation. Police detained the suspect after he stabbed the victim in front of his house in Taman Seri Pagi around 7pm. They also seized a knife believed to have been used in the crime from the suspect. The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police have since obtained an order from the court to remand the suspect until Aug 18.

High-level committee set up to oversee cross-ministry rural development
KUALA LUMPUR: A high-level committee (HLC) on rural development has been set up to coordinate efforts across ministries to address rural-urban development challenges, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister, who chaired the inaugural HLC meeting in Parliament, said the committee will be the apex strategic platform to align rural development policies and programmes. 'The current development of rural areas is facing increasingly complex challenges from overlapping functions between ministries and agencies to resource constraints and siloed implementation,' Zahid said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 14) The HLC, which will convene at least twice a year, is supported by six working committees focusing on key areas: education, entrepreneurship, rural economy, digitalisation, rural tourism, and infrastructure. Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the initiative is in line with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which emphasises integrated governance to reduce duplication, optimise resources, and speed up outcomes. He also cited a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report that stated that no Asean country is on track to fully achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to rural development by 2030 without better coordination in infrastructure, workforce, human capital, and poverty reduction efforts. "Key areas discussed during the HLC meeting included improving access to rural schools, enhancing rural tourism promotion, strengthening support for senior citizens and special needs groups, and upgrading rural healthcare infrastructure," he said. Several cross-ministry initiatives are already in motion, including the UP_TVET, a centralised application system for vocational and technical training and Inap Desa 2026, aimed at positioning homestays as key attractions during Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Zahid said the government intended to curb rural-urban migration by creating more opportunities in rural areas, nurturing rural tech entrepreneurs, and enhancing the competitiveness of the rural tourism sector. 'Rural development is not just about building physical infrastructure. It's about building the future and unlocking the potential of our people,' he said. 'With a whole-of-government approach, I am confident this HLC will help create a thriving, sustainable rural ecosystem that contributes significantly to national progress,' he added.

Police open 3 cases after attack on Rafizi Ramli's son
PETALING JAYA: Selangor police have confirmed that former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli's son was attacked by an unknown individual at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on August 13, 2025. In an official statement released today, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar (pic) confirmed that a police report was lodged regarding an incident involving a male child who was physically approached and pricked with an unidentified device by an unknown individual. The attack occurred at the entrance of Symphony 2, IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, in front of K-FRY premises. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim is the son of Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who is Pandan MP and former Minister of Economy. Following the incident, police have opened an investigation paper under three separate provisions: - Section 14(D) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) - If convicted, the perpetrator faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and whipping. - Section 324 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or fine, or whipping, or any combination of two of these punishments. - Section 352 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to three months, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both. Shazeli also said that reported that the victim's condition is stable. A comprehensive investigation involving various aspects is being conducted by Selangor police contingent with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman headquarters.
