Hidden gem is the perfect brunch spot with the most glorious views

In my ongoing quest to find the perfect brunch spot, I literally stumbled on a hidden gem during a visit to Belmont, writes Leah Collins.
Lotties, on Belmont Road, is nestled in the picturesque Pennine Moors, just outside the picturesque village of Belmont.
Lottie's of Belmont opened in 2018. (Image: Leah Collins) The café, which opened in 2018, offers delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch options, alongside an array of delicious desserts and home made sweet treats - and the most perfect view.
Inside, Lottie's features a cosy and ambient vibe, complete with twinkling fairy lights and rustic décor. Outside the windows are views of the Lancashire countryside, rolling hills and all.

The place was also bustling with people, but the service was immaculate. My order was taken and my food bought to me in the space of no more than fifteen minutes.
I ordered the Mediterranean goats cheese salad and a cherry smoothie. (Image: Leah Collins) I decided to opt for the Mediterranean vegetable and goats cheese salad, with vegetables in herb oil, tossed with a baked goats cheese, salad leaves and topped off with a balsamic glaze.
To wash down my salad, I ordered a fresh 'Cherry-poppins' fruit smoothie, which contained sour cherries, raspberry, blackcurrant, mango and bananas.
Overall my dish came to a grand total of £16.90 (the salad was priced at £10.95 and smoothie £4.95), with the price backed up by the food's quality.
For those who fancy something more substantial, Lottie's offers an array of delicious dishes, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free style options.
American style pancakes, traditional breakfasts, smashed avocado toast, French toast and eggs royale are all but some of the breakfast options.
The lunch menu also proves fruitful, offering burgers, chicken quesadilla, vegan curry, pizza style flat breads, sandwiches and wraps.
A delightful selection of cakes were also on offer. (Image: Leah Collins) After my brunch, I was tempted to try one of Lottie's homemade cakes, which looked absolutely delightful. There was cherry, blueberry, lemon and Oreo style-sponges, as well as freshly-baked scones on offer, so I was spoiled for choice.
The special coffee of the day, the iced popcorn latte, also caught my eye – so I'll definitely be back to sample that this summer!

The private hire room upstairs is also available to rent out for functions.
Overall, I was really happy with my experience at Lottie's and would definitely return for a future brunch date and enjoy the glorious views again.
It is the perfect spot to dine alone, with company and is situated in one of most beautiful parts of the region.

Virgin signs ‘exclusive' train deal in bid to rival Eurostar

Virgin Trains has signed a deal with a train manufacturer for 12 high speed trains in a bid to challenge Eurostar's cross-Channel dominance. In a submission to the UK's Office of Rail and Road (ORR), Virgin has requested the ability to run services on HS1, the high speed line that runs from London's St Pancras International and through the Channel tunnel. The submission has revealed that Virgin has 'secured binding exclusivity' with French train manufacturer Alstom for a dozen Avelia Stream trains. The trains, currently used in Sweden and Italy, travel at speeds of 125 to 185mph, and offer configurations such as flexible boarding heights, winter weather protection and 'active tilting' for reduced journey time. An Alstom spokesperson told The Independent: "With over 2,900 high-speed Avelia trains delivered globally and a proven track record in Channel Tunnel operations, Alstom is thrilled to support Virgin's submission to the Office of Rail and Road. 'We eagerly await the ORR decision and look forward to finalising our contract with Virgin." Virgin wrote in its submission to the ORR that it wants to launch services in 2030 with trains running from London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. There are further ambitions to expand across France, Germany and Switzerland. If approved, this would put Virgin in direct competition with Eurostar, which connects the UK to France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland with a high speed network. Mr Branson wrote in the submission that he hopes to 'end a 30 year monopoly' and bring competition to cross-Channel rail. 'Just as Virgin has successfully challenged incumbents in air, cruise and, of course, rail, we're ready to do it again,' he wrote. 'We will shake up the cross-Channel market with our signature approach, delivering a service that is innovative, bold and unmistakably Virgin.' Virgin Trains previously ran domestic services on the West Coast Main Line from 1997 until 2012. The franchise recently had a separate application rejected by the ORR for Virgin rail services to once again run on the route. The office rejected the application, citing concerns over delays and cancelled journeys. Bids from Lumo and Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway were also denied. The majority of existing services on Britain's busiest rail line, which runs between London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, are operated by Avanti West Coast. This time around, Virgin is hoping for better news. A Virgin Group spokesperson told The Independent: 'Virgin's recent submission to the Office of Rail and Road demonstrates that Virgin is confident, committed and capable of delivering for consumers on the cross-Channel route. We look forward to the ORR decision in October.'

Aftermath as two easyJet planes crash on runway leaving passengers shocked

Two easyJet planes collided on the taxiway at Manchester Airport in the UK at 6:33am, leaving debris on the ground but no reported injuries. Flights were briefly suspended, and the aircraft were checked for safety before passengers were bussed back to the terminal. Passenger Phil Aspin described a 'loud thud' as the planes' wings struck each other while they were waiting to take off. EasyJet confirmed the wingtip collision, apologized for delays, and said passengers received refreshment vouchers while replacement aircraft were arranged.
