TN ministers, VCK chief, TNCC prez and other leaders offer floral tribute to M K Muthu
In his condolence message, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai said, 'M K Muthu held a unique place in Tamil Nadu's political and cinematic history.' He expressed deep condolences on behalf of the TNCC to CM Stalin, Muthu's family members, DMK cadre and the film fraternity.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko also offered his condolences, saying he was deeply saddened by the passing of Muthu. He extended his sympathies to Stalin, Muthu's wife Sivakamasundari, son Arivunithi, daughter Thenmozhi and other family members.
Besides, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam, TMC(M) president G K Vasan, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss and former union minister Su Thirunavukkarasar also condoled Muthu's passing.

No copyright violation in flag design: TVK
Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) informed the that its flag, alleged to be a lookalike of the Thondai Mandala Saandror Dharma Paribalana Sabai's flag — a Chennai-based welfare trust — does not amount to any copyright violation as it was not used by TVK for commercial purposes. The attempt by the trust to stifle this right through an improper reading of intellectual property statutes is legally untenable and impermissible," TVK stated. The party added that the present case does not fall within the purview of commercial trademark enforcement and must be treated as an attempt to suppress political participation through strategic litigation. The submissions were made on Wednesday in response to the plea moved by the trust seeking to restrain TVK from using the tricolour flag, which, according to the trust, was deceptively similar to its own flag. According to the petitioner-trust, TVK's flag infringes their registered trademark under Class 45 and violates copyright laws. Opposing the plea, TVK contended that its flag is used solely for political purposes and not for any trade or commercial activity. As such, the Trademarks Act and Copyright Act are inapplicable. The flag is a symbol of ideological identity, not a commercial brand, the party argued. As per the Trademark Act, marks must be used 'in the course of trade'. Since TVK does not provide goods or services and no commercial link exists between the flag and any trade activity, the trust's trademark under Class 45 relates to 'personal and social services', which the party is not engaged in. The colour scheme (deep maroon and yellow) is deeply tied to Tamil culture. Therefore, the party requested the court to dismiss the suit as frivolous, vexatious, and filed with mala fide intent. Recording the submissions, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy adjourned the hearing to August 11.

Anbil Mahesh's supporters walk out of Trichy corpn council meet
Trichy: Dramatic scenes unfolded at Trichy corporation's monthly council meeting on Thursday as a section of DMK councillors and their alliance parties from areas managed by Trichy south district DMK unit walked out to condemn the construction work on a chicken waste recycling plant in Ariyamangalam dump yard. A total of 27 councillors, mostly supporters of school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, who is the Trichy DMK south district secretary, walked out stating that despite the minister's intervention, the local body did not stop the work. However, councillors largely from Trichy central district unit, considered as loyalists of municipal administration minister K N Nehru, stayed back. Work is on for the plant, proposed to convert 35 tonne of chicken waste a day into pellets for being used as feed in fish farms. The local body allocated 8,000 square feet inside the dump yard to a private firm to develop the plant at a monthly rent of Rs 56,000. However, raising apprehensions of bad odour emanating from it, Thiruverumbur residents approached local MLA Anbil Mahesh to stop the work. "Despite our minister's (Anbil Mahesh) appeal, as the work on the poultry waste recycling unit is progressing much against public interest, we decide not to participate in the meeting," DMK councillor and zone III chairman M Mathivanan said before leading the walkout.
