Bhumi Pednekar's The Royals co-star Udit Arora defends her from bad reviews: ‘You can't control that, she's done her work with utmost honesty'

Indian Express19-05-2025

The Royals, an eight-part romantic comedy series, dropped on Netflix India last week to some harsh reviews. The points of contention ranged from the overt focus on the sets and costumes instead of the script to the performance of the female lead, Bhumi Pednekar. Pednekar plays Sofia, an ambitious entrepreneur who wishes to make the royal palace of Morpur accessible to common people.
Amid the criticism for her performance, her Royals co-stars Udit Arora came to her defense. 'She has been amazing to me and everyone. I can't say anything about people. They can like or dislike whatever they want, you can't control that,' said Arora. He plays Sofia's business partner and former boyfriend in the show.
In the interview with Zoom, Arora further said, 'We do our work with utmost honesty, and I believe she has done that.' Udit also shared behind-the-scenes pictures from the Royals set after the show dropped on Netflix India. These included his scenes with Bhumi and Ishaan Khatter.

'Grateful is an understatement. Being part of The Royals on Netflix has been an unforgettable ride — every scene, every take, every laugh behind the camera. Huge thanks to our visionary directors @picsofpinks and @nupurasthana for steering this ship with such brilliance and heart, and to Netflix for bringing this story to life. Couldn't have asked for a better cast to share this journey with – what a team. Here's to the magic behind the scenes,' he wrote in the caption.
The SCREEN review of The Royals claims Pednekar works hard, but the lacklustre writing weighs her and the entire show down. 'There's also the matter of the good-looking leads who have more going on with other people in the cast, than with each other. Khatter had more bite in his small part in the Nicole Kidman starrer The Perfect Couple: here, his shirt is off more than it's on, and it is all very eye-catching, but all that coupling with Pednekar doesn't really get as steamy as it should have. She works hard too, but whoever came up with 'Work Potato', the name of her company? No, not cute,' it states.

Divya Dutta On Staying Single: 'There's A Lot Of Male Attention Coming My Way But...'

Last Updated: Divya Dutta opens up about choosing not to marry, embracing self-love and companionship, and talks future projects Nastik and Netflix hit Chhaava. While Bollywood often celebrates fairytale weddings, some stars are choosing a different path—one of independence and self-assurance. Among them is acclaimed actor Divya Dutta, who recently opened up about why she's comfortable not getting married and how she views companionship in a more meaningful light. In a heartfelt interview with Hindi Rush, Divya shared her personal stance on marriage and the kind of relationship she truly values. 'If you find a good partner, it's great to be married. If not, life moves on beautifully. It's better to nurture yourself than stay in a dysfunctional marriage. Rather than lowering yourself in a relationship, it's better to love yourself. There's a lot of male attention coming my way and I enjoy that, but a relationship should happen when you connect. You feel that the person can hold your hand. If that isn't there, I have many lovely friends around me, and I am there for myself." Making it clear that she's not seeking marriage, Divya added, 'I don't want to get married, but I would love to have a companion with whom I can travel. And if not, then I'm still happy. You know, my best friend sent me a quote — a person asks, 'Why are you single? You are beautiful, attractive, caring,' and I say, 'I think I'm overqualified.' There comes a time when you look for completeness outside, which is not necessary. It's not necessary that you'll only be complete when a good partner enters your life. I used to have that misconception. I used to wear my heart on my sleeve — but not anymore." Professionally, Divya continues to soar. She was last seen in the historical drama Chhaava, where she shared the screen with Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, was a major commercial success, earning Rs 807.88 crore globally. It's currently available to stream on Netflix. Looking ahead, Divya will star in the upcoming film Nastik, alongside Arjun Rampal. Directed by Shailesh Verma, the film also features Ihana Dhillon and Harshaali Malhotra. The official release date has not been announced yet. First Published: June 11, 2025, 16:10 IST
