Man Utd and Chelsea weighing up swap deal after two transfer requests

Daily Mirror4 hours ago

Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho both face uncertain futures at Chelsea and Manchester United respectively but there could be a solution in the transfer market as the two clubs consider sending them in opposite directions
Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly looking at a sensational swap deal between Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho, with both players seeking transfers this summer.
Nkunku has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca and his future looks bleak after he was substituted at half time during a 0-0 draw at Brentford in April, despite being the club's only recognised striker during that period.

He was signed for £53m in 2023 but his progress at Stamford Bridge has been hindered by injury setbacks and inconsistency on the pitch.

Garnacho, meanwhile, looks destined for the exit door at Old Trafford after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim, who has already signed forward Matheus Cunha and is also attempting to sign Bryan Mbeumo.
The Argentine was benched for the Europa League final defeat against Tottenham and came out with some stern criticism after the game, questioning his manager's decision and admitting the team had a "s***" season.
Earlier on in the campaign, Amorim and Garnacho butted heads again after the winger was accused of turning his back on the former Sporting Lisbon boss while being given instructions during a Europa League game against Viktoria Plzen.
Now both players situations could be resolved in one swift move, with the Telegraph reporting that Chelsea and United are looking into the possibility of swapping the duo.
However, the report goes on to state that separate transfers are more likely as it would "solve headaches" for both clubs, though neither team has held talks on either transfer as of yet.

Garnacho has been told he has "no future" at United and would jump at the chance of moving to Stamford Bridge, having already been strongly linked with a move in January.
As for Nkunku, his future is looking more bleak after Chelsea spent £30m on new forward Liam Delap, while the club are seeking to add another forward to their frontline in the shape of Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.
Nkunku did manage to score 14 goals in all competitions last season, mainly through cup competitions, and Amorim is said to be willing to give him a chance in the United team after becoming frustrated with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Garnacho also had a positive season for United despite his troubles with Amorim. He scored ten goals and assisted nine in total and still has time to develop as a footballer at the age of 20.

'He has gone and smashed it' - Delap wants to emulate Palmer at Chelsea

Liam Delap was one of this summer's most-wanted it was Chelsea who won the race for his signature and, speaking before the Blues' final Club World Cup group game against ES Tunis, Delap revealed why - including the pull of Europe and reuniting with some familiar faces."You never know if it is going to be the right decision but you've just got to go with your gut and hope it works out," he said. "You've got to take your time. I took a few days to speak to people and decide my future."Chelsea's star attacker Cole Palmer was one of the people he consulted, after first playing together at Manchester City when he was just 15 years old."I asked him what I needed to ask him," Delap added. "He told me what I needed to know, but I don't like too much information. Ultimately it was my decision, so I kind of just wanted my head to be clear."Palmer has become the poster boy for Chelsea after two sensational seasons and Delap was asked if he hopes to emulate his former academy team-mate."Yeah, of course, that's the goal," he said. "I think we both had similar positions and he has gone and smashed it, so hopefully I can also."Reports in May suggested Manchester United were frontrunners to sign Delap at first, but their Europa League final defeat and a poor league campaign left them without European football for next season - and Chelsea's Champions League qualification did play a part in his decision."It wasn't the be all and end all, because I was also looking towards future seasons, but it helps," Delap about his new manager Enzo Maresca, who he played under during his time in Manchester City's academy, Delap said: "I've got a good relationship with him. I know how he plays. I've played in this system before. It's very similar now but with little tweaks."I know a lot of the players here. The project of the club, and how they see the future, that's what excited me."

Man Utd target pushing for £51m transfer and 'dreaming' of Premier League

Manchester United have received a major boost in their pursuit of Diogo Costa, with the goalkeeper pushing to leave Porto and 'dreaming' of a Premier League move this summer. Costa joined Porto's academy back in 2011, aged just 11, and has gone on to establish himself as a cornerstone of his boyhood side, making 197 appearances in all competitions across six seasons with the first-team. In that time, Costa has lifted eight pieces of silverware, including two Primeira Liga titles, while also being named captain and nailing down his place as Portugal's number one ahead of next year's World Cup. Costa's assured performances between the sticks have naturally caught the attention of some of Europe's elite clubs and speculation is mounting that the 25-year-old could be set for a big-money transfer move. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Costa believes the time has come in his career to 'embrace a new challenge' and the shot-stopper is 'expected' to move on from Porto over the coming weeks. It's claimed both Manchester clubs are in the market for a top-class 'keeper and 'remain very interested' in Costa, who has a €75million (£64m) release clause in his contract – but could leave for a fee of €60m (£51m). The report adds that Costa 'dreams' of playing in England and the Porto skipper has told his inner circle that he has a 'strong desire' to experience football outside of his homeland, where he feels he has 'already achieved everything'. Costa has just two years remaining on his current deal at the Estadio do Dragao. United have been forced to turn to the transfer market after another error-strewn campaign for Andre Onana, who has badly struggled to win over the trust of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. City, meanwhile, are aware of lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League for Ederson and are on the lookout for a long-term replacement for the six-time Premier League winner. Reports emanating out of Portugal back in April suggested United had identified Costa as their 'preferred' choice to succeed Onana, with scouts said to be keeping close tabs on his progress. Costa is currently sidelined with a muscle injury, meaning he has played no part in Porto's opening Club World Cup matches against Palmeiras, Inter Miami and Al Ahly. More Trending The Portugal international came to the attention of many fans with his showings at Euro 2024, where he wrote himself into the record books during his side's last-16 win over Sweden. 'I think Portugal's secret is Diogo Costa,' Portugal boss Roberto Martinez said after Costa became first goalkeeper in European Championship history to save three penalties in a single shootout. 'Diogo Costa is the most hidden secret in European football and today he showed up. 'Today I think he reached a completely different level. The one-on-one situation was incredible. Then he had the focus to make three consecutive saves. We have to be very proud of him.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Man Utd target Dusan Vlahovic was completely shown up by £50m ace Liverpool want

Manchester United have been linked with a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has already faced Premier League stars Manchester United have been linked with Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, who has come up against Premier League defenders in the past. The Serbian striker was signed for £60million from Fiorentina in 2022, but could be on his way out of Turin this summer. Vlahovic, 25, scored 16 goals across all competitions for the Old Lady this season. He has since been touted as a target for United as Juventus reportedly explore a possible swap deal for Jadon Sancho. ‌ The winger is set to enter the final year of his United contract and is not thought to be in manager Ruben Amorim's plans after his Chelsea loan spell failed to materialise into a permanent move. However, if Vlahovic does join the Premier League as part of a swap deal, he will hope to perform better against England defender Marc Guehi, who is wanted by Liverpool. ‌ Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Juventus are willing to offer players in exchange for Sancho, who is also said to be on Napoli's radar. Vlahovic has been named as one option and former Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz is said to be another alternative. Vlahovic has been described as 'unreceptive' to previous offers to leave Juventus, having attracted interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia. However, the chance to lead the line for United could convince the forward. He has limited experience against English clubs, scoring in a Champions League group stage win over Manchester City in November. However, Vlahovic did line up for Serbia against England in their opening game at Euro 2024, where he endured a tough evening against Guehi. The centre-back was selected by Gareth Southgate to replace the injured Harry Maguire, despite his relative inexperience at international level. Crystal Palace captain Guehi stepped up to the challenge and appeared composed alongside John Stones as the Three Lions earned a 1-0 win. Vlahovic, partnered by ex-Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, barely had a touch in the first-half as England stifled Serbia's physical front two. It proved to be a landmark performance from Guehi, who has since attracted interest from Liverpool. ‌ The Palace defender is another who is set to enter the last 12 months of his deal after failing to agree to a new contract with Oliver Glasner's side. Reluctant to let one of their prize assets leave for free next year, the FA Cup winners are expected to sell Guehi this summer. Liverpool have expressed interest in Guehi this summer as they look to bolster their centre-back options. Arne Slot's side are searching for a central defender following Jarell Quasah's move to Bayer Leverkusen. ‌ Palace have set a £50m asking price for Guehi, according to talkSPORT. Liverpool have already been busy in the transfer market after agreeing deals for Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Meanwhile, as United consider Sancho's future, the club have also begun rebuilding their team. Matheus Cunha has arrived from Wolves and the club have improved their offer for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
