PFF ranks all 32 NFL offensive lines (Broncos are No. 2)

USA Today6 hours ago
The secret to the success of a great ground attack and for a quarterback to succeed through the air is contingent on how the offensive line performs. According to Pro Football Focus, the Broncos have done just that in putting an excellent offensive line together.
In a recently written article by PFF's Zoltan Buday, the Broncos, who only rank behind the Philadelphia Eagles, have the second-best offensive line in the NFL, led by Quinn Meinerz. Meinerz gained a significant accomplishment last season by being named a first-team All-Pro. With all five starting Broncos offensive linemen returning, it made the Broncos' starting unit an easy vote for being one of the NFL's best.
'All five of Denver's starting offensive linemen in 2024, each of whom logged more than 800 snaps, return for 2025," Buday wrote for PFF. "The Broncos' offensive line led the NFL with a 90.8 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating last season, allowing only 110 pressures on 677 snaps. Right guard Quinn Meinerz has emerged as one of the best players at the position, highlighted by his 87.3 PFF overall grade, which ranked second among guards in the league last season.'
The Broncos are already in training camp, preparing for the 2025 season. With quarterback Bo Nix in his second year and head coach Sean Payton entering his third, this offensive line unit has the chance to further set the Broncos up for success.

Panthers to debut starters in preseason game against Browns

The Carolina Panthers will take the field Friday night for the team's first preseason game. They will face the Cleveland Browns at Bank of America Stadium in Uptown. The game is primetime preseason viewing for multiple reasons. Much of the NFL world will be watching to get a better look at Browns' quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is fourth on the depth chart. READ MORE: Shedeur Sanders set to start against Panthers in Browns preseason opener However, that is not the Panthers' focus. Head coach Dave Canales already said that he will be playing starters Friday night, which is something he didn't do last year. Bryce Young and the first-team offense will take the field for one or two series. We're also getting a look at the Panthers defense, specifically along the defensive front where they spent a lot of money during free agency. Last year, this defense finished among the worst in the league. Canales said he won't be calling plays, which means offensive coordinator Brad Idzik will. 'Really, he's been calling all of training camp,' Canales said. 'In our practices, we're scripted out that way and I trust Brad. We've been together forever.' Canales added, 'When he calls a practice like that, it really allows me to be engaged on both sides. Some of my mentors challenged me, make sure the defense can feel you. Make sure special teams can feel you. They need what you have to bring.' The same goes for the defense, he said. They'll have two of the position coaches calling games during the preseason Canales said they want to develop the coaching staff, too like his mentors did for him. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. VIDEO: Panthers' Jaycee Horn misses practice after car crash in Uptown

Cowboys put guard Rob Jones on injured reserve, sign RB Malik Davis to add depth

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys put offensive lineman Rob Jones on season-ending injured reserve Friday. Jones had been competing with rookie first-round draft pick Tyler Booker to start at right guard before breaking a bone in his neck on July 27. Jones told the team's website last month he was looking at a two-to-three month recovery, but the decision to put him on IR ends any chance of a return this season. Jones signed a one-year contract in free agency to give the Cowboys added depth in their reconfigured offensive line. The 26-year-old Jones played his first four seasons in Miami after signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent, starting all 17 games last season with 30 starts for his career. Booker, who was selected 12th overall, was the favorite to start, but Jones had been performing well in the first week of training camp and would likely have been a key reserve as the Cowboys look for improvement up front in their first season under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The Cowboys signed running back Malik Davis on Friday to take Jones' roster spot in an effort to add numbers at another depleted position group. Miles Sanders has been out with a knee injury, rookie Jaydon Blue sustained a lower-body injury in practice on Thursday, and Deuce Vaughn just returned from a hamstring injury. Davis has familiarity with the Cowboys' offense, having appeared in 13 games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons and spent the past two years on Dallas' practice squad. Given the injuries elsewhere at running back, the 26-year-old Davis could play in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. ___ AP NFL:

Texans DE Will Anderson Jr. cracks NFL top-50 ranking following Pro Bowl season

Another Houston Texans player made the NFL top-100 player list. The list, which is voted on by the players themselves, has already included running back Joe Mixon (No. 56). It's also expected to have wide receiver Nico Collins and defensive end Danielle Hunter in the coming weeks after their successful seasons in H-Town. Now, the list features sophomore edge rusher Will Anderson Jr., who came in at No. 46 after a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2024 en route to a Pro Bowl nod. "With the Texans offense's struggles last season, the team's defense played a key role in Houston making it back to the playoffs. Ranking No. 6 in total yards allowed under head coach DeMeco Ryans, the front line was particularly vicious, ranking fourth in sacks behind the dynamic duo of Anderson and Danielle Hunter," NFL media wrote. "Anderson was a Pro Bowler and Defensive Rookie of the Year in his opening campaign in Houston, and though he didn't return to the Pro Bowl in 2024, the defensive end was no less impactful. Topping his previous sack total by four, Anderson was efficient at getting into the backfield and finishing the job. The Texans have to be excited to see how the man they traded a haul of picks to draft will continue to grow and wreak havoc on offenses." After winning the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year honor with his 7.5 sacks in 2023, Anderson proved he wasn't just a rookie sensation in 2024 with not only 11.5 sacks, but also a stellar 17 tackles for loss. Pressure wasn't on his side since the Hunter, who led the team with 12 sacks last season in his first year with the franchise, so the former No. 3 overall pick will remain the 1A pass-rusher to the former All-Pro with the Vikings. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Anderson converted 19.0% of his total pressures (58) into sacks (11.5) last season, nearly doubling his sack conversion rate from his rookie season in 2023 (10.9%). He'll be looking to double those numbers in 2025 as the Texans prepare for a chance to secure a higher seed and a third straight AFC South division title this fall.
