UG Medical admissions begin: Students complain of not being able to proceed with application for lack of APAAR ID number
The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID is a 12-digit unique identification number for each student of India under the One Nation One Student programme of the central government, which serves as a digital identity of the students for seamless process of tracking of academic records, transfer of credits with digital storage facility.
As the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell declared the commencement of UG medical admissions on Wednesday, the online registration process started. Submitting APAAR ID is a new requirement in the application form. Due to lack of awareness around APAAR ID among candidates, along with no knowledge on how and where to generate it, this requirement is causing confusion among students.
Sudha Shenoy, a parent representative who is also helping candidates in the registration process, said, 'It does not show as a mandatory field. Yet an applicant is unable to move forward without putting a valid APAAR ID.' Shenoy further questioned that there is no such requirement of APAAR ID in the All-India admission medical admissions process which is taking place simultaneously. 'Why is the Maharashtra government enforcing it?'
Brijesh Sutaria, another parent representative, said, 'The CET cell should provide a detailed instructional video or booklet on APAAR ID and the generation process. Generation of APAAR ID requires one to have Digilocker access. In order to ensure all this, the applicants have to exit the medical admission registration process.'
State CET Cell Commissioner Dilip Sardesai however stated that it is unlikely to cause an issue as submitting APAAR ID is not mandatory on the application form. Urging that candidates should not be confused, he said, 'They can proceed with the application process even without an APAAR ID. Our technical wing has verified it. Already over 6,000 candidates have successfully completed registration, including some who have not filled in their APAAR ID number.' Highlighting that there is no systemic error, Sardesai pointed out that there may be an issue if anybody is keying incorrect APAAR ID, which the system will not accept.

On NEET, Sanatana Dharma The Thug Life actor then criticised the Union government's National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the entrance examination for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education that has drawn flak, especially in Tamil Nadu, since its inception in 2017. 'The doctors you saw on stage today....I am not sure if they can show another batch of doctors like this at their next event. Because they haven't been able to continue such efforts post-2017. Now, do you understand why we have been opposing NEET? Since 2017, this law has prevented such children from getting this education. Agaram cannot do anything about it,' said Kamal, adding that only education can grant the power to change this situation. 'In this war, only education has the power to change the nation. It's the only weapon that can break the chains of dictatorship and Sanatana. Do not take any other weapon in your hands. You can't win with any other weapon. Because you will be defeated by majoritarianism; ignorant majoritarians will defeat you,' added Kamal. Further, he revealed that he had spoken to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin about Suriya's work and that he urged him to support such NGOs. 'I told him, 'They are not asking for money, they are merely asking for permission. How is that going to hurt us? Please give them the necessary permissions' He said he has been doing so.' Kamal's statement against Sanatana Dharma has garnered criticism, especially from the BJP. Sanatana Dharma, a set of eternal duties ordained in Hinduism, has been a sensitive nerve in politics. Earlier in 2023, Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin's statement calling for 'the eradication of Sanatana Dharma' triggered a major political row. Reacting to his comment, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan, on Monday, accused Kamal of 'dividing people' on religious sentiments. 'Kamal Haasan is more thankful to DMK than its own cadres. If he speaks about Sanatan, Udhayanidhi and Stalin will be happy. However, Tamil Nadu people will be unhappy, and not only Tamil Nadu, the sentiments of all Indians who follow that ideology will be hurt,' she told the news agency ANI. This isn't the first time a statement by Kamal Haasan has created a controversy in recent times. Earlier in June, the actor was embroiled in a controversy during the promotions of his film Thug Lifefor stating that the Kannada language 'was born out of Tamil.' The remark, made during the audio launch of his upcoming film Thug Life in Chennai, has drawn fierce backlash in Karnataka, particularly from the BJP and pro-Kannada groups. The controversy even led to a halt in the film's release in Karnataka, a ban that was revoked after the Supreme Court of India asserted filmmakers' right to release certified films without threats of arson or mob intimidation.

Soon, Haryana's Saini govt to recruit for 24,800 junior-level posts
After recruiting nearly 24,000 youths for government jobs during the oath ceremony in October 2024, the Nayab Singh Saini-led government is now set to offer an additional 24,800 junior-level posts in the coming months. To shortlist candidates for Group-C positions, one round of the Common Eligibility Test (CET) has already been conducted, while preparations are underway for the next exam. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's media secretary Praveen Attrey told The Indian Express on Thursday that 'as many as 24,800 posts for Group C and Group D would be filled after another round of Common Eligibility Test (CET)'. The CET, organised by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC), serves as a preliminary written examination to screen candidates for government roles. The Group C posts include various roles such as junior engineers, clerks, excise and taxation inspectors, auditors, assistant managers, patwaris, and male and female police constables, while Group D roles in Haryana include various entry-level positions in government departments, including peon, animal attendant, helper, gardener, cook and water carrier. The CET for Group-C posts, held on July 26 and 27, saw participation from nearly 12.22 lakh eligible candidates. Conducted over the weekend at 1,350 centres across the state, the exam registered an exceptional 92% turnout. HSSC chairman Himmat Singh described this level of attendance as 'a possible national record', noting that it was 'far beyond the usual 55–60% seen in competitive exams'. In the next phase, the main examination for Group-C recruitment will be conducted, with participation open to a candidate pool 10 times the number of available positions. The CET for Group-D posts is expected to be held in September, with officials anticipating participation from nearly 17 lakh candidates. The scale of this exercise will require extensive logistical coordination. So far, appointments to Group-D posts have been made solely based on performance in the Common Eligibility Test (CET). The schedule for the second exam of Group-C posts is not yet clear, but it will likely be held this year only, the officials said. Excited over the successful execution of the recent CET, Himmat Singh said: 'We have received calls from some commissions that also execute competitive exams for government jobs. They are keen to know how we executed such an exam involving lakhs of candidates successfully.' He added: 'Officials from some of the commissions have even planned to visit Haryana to see the system and pattern adopted for successful execution of the exam.' To support candidates logistically, Haryana transport authorities had operated more than 30,000 bus rounds, providing free transportation. In partnership with social organisations, the government also arranged overnight lodging for candidates travelling from distant areas. 'Through AI-based monitoring and CCTV, incidents like cheating and paper leaks were completely prevented. We kept a close watch on all centres, and now the CCTV footage will be reviewed to prepare the final report. This technological approach not only enhances transparency but also instils trust in fairness among candidates,' Singh remarked. CM Saini inspected arrangements in Panchkula, issuing directions to officials to ensure every possible assistance was extended to candidates. Maharashtra govt withdraws EWS quota in private medical colleges
Agency: PTI Mumbai, July 31 (PTI) In a significant policy reversal, the Maharashtra government has withdrawn its earlier decision to implement the 10 per cent Economically Weaker Section (EWS) reservation in private medical colleges. The rollback was notified by the state Medical Education Department on Wednesday, with the government clarifying that the quota will be applicable only if the Central government and respective councils increase existing seats. 'For MBBS/BAMS/BDS/BHMS and BUMS courses, this reservation will be applicable only if the Central Government, respective councils increase existing seats. For courses other than MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BHMS and BUMS courses, the 10 per cent EWS reservation will be applicable on available seats," the Medical Education Department stated. Last week, when the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell declared commencement of admissions for medical undergraduate (UG) courses, the information brochure indicated implementation of the 10 per cent EWS reservation in private medical colleges. The move led to apprehension among students and parents as the quota decision meant drastically reducing the number of open category seats without increasing the intake of seats. This is the second major rollback by the state government in the field of education in less than a month. On June 29, the government withdrew two contentious GRs (resolutions) under the three-language formula amid protests by Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS against the purported 'imposition" of Hindi language for primary students.
