NEW DELHI: On India's 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
, addressing the nation from the Red Fort, had a message for Pakistan - India will treat terrorists and those who aid them as one, and any future misadventure will meet decisive retribution at the hands of its armed forces.

'What our forces achieved in Operation Sindoor has not been witnessed in decades,' PM Modi said. 'We have set a new normal in tackling cross-border terrorism. I salute our brave soldiers who delivered a punishment for the Pahalgam attack far beyond the enemy's imagination.'
PM Modi said that India and its farmers have sole rights over the country's share of the Indus river waters, branding the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan as 'unjust and one-sided.' PM Modi said the decades-old agreement had caused 'enormous harm' to Indian agriculture, allowing rivers originating in India to irrigate 'the fields of our enemies' while leaving Indian soil and farmers parched.
'Blood and water cannot flow together,' he said, adding that the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.

Pawan announced a sharp hike in funds for national festival celebrations in panchayats — from Rs 100 to Rs 10,000 for minor panchayats and from Rs 250 to Rs 25,000 for major panchayats — enhancing the role and dignity of sarpanches. He lauded the state's achievement of holding village assemblies simultaneously in all 13,326 panchayats, advancing the goal of 'village self-rule.' To boost forest cover from 30 per cent to 37 per cent, one crore saplings have been planted and are being tracked through QR codes. He also cited the resolution of elephant attack issues by deploying 'kunki' elephants from Karnataka, and the launch of 61 tourism projects in Araku with a budget of Rs 1,022 crore. On his Pithapuram constituency, he said Rs 308 crore had already been spent on development works to transform it into a model constituency, with more projects planned over the next four years. The event featured police and departmental floats, cultural performances by school students, and the presentation of awards to officials, staff, and volunteers. Pawan also laid the foundation stone for the Rs 6-crore Red Cross Cancer Block at Kakinada Government General Hospital, funded through CSR contributions. TTD to carry out extensive propagation of Sanatana Dharma
Tirupati: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur at the Parade Grounds in the TTD Administrative Building here on Friday. TTD chairman B R Naidu, along with executive officer J Syamala Rao, hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour from the security personnel. In his address, the chairman announced that the TTD will conduct extensive programmes for the propagation of Sanatana Dharma with the participation of the public. He recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and expressed confidence that India would soon emerge as the world's third-largest economy. He said, following the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, several new initiatives have been taken up, including implementation of AI technology for faster and more convenient darshan, improved quality and distribution of Annadanam with special counters in crowded areas, and annadanam with milk every three hours at the Vaikuntham Queue Complex. Vada has been introduced at Tarigonda Vengamamba Annadanam Bhavan from March, and a new SRIVANI ticket counter provides same-day evening darshan for tickets issued in the morning. Other measures include modernisation of Kalyanakatta, 110 per cent increase in Tirumala greenery, an anti-drone security system, a new quality-testing lab, phased development of sub-temples, construction of temples in various states and UTs, increased grants for temples in Dalit, tribal, and fisher communities, and strengthening of Srivari Seva with professional and NRI volunteers. EO Syamala Rao, extending I-Day greetings, said efforts are being made to ensure comfortable darshan for pilgrims from across the country and abroad, and lauded officials and staff for their services. Importance of education stressed
Vijayawada: StateLegislative Council chairman Koyye Moshen Raju stressed the need for universal education to bridge economic inequalities in society. Participating as the chief guest in the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the State Assembly building on Friday, he first paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and unfurled the tricolour. 'Only through education can people become aware of their rights and work towards achieving them, paving the way for economic progress,' he noted. Emphasising India's unity in diversity, the Chairman said all citizens are equal and should be given equal opportunities, irrespective of caste, religion, or region. He urged governments to take concrete steps to implement welfare schemes effectively and prioritise educational and healthcare services, especially for the poor and weaker sections. Assembly secretary general Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara, deputy secretaries, officers, and staff also took part in the programme.
