Air ambulance lands in city center in response to car driving into Liverpool crowd
An air ambulance has landed in the city center of Liverpool after a car was seen driving into a crowd of fans celebrating the Premier League title win.
Liverpool fans gathered in their thousands to celebrate with the players and coaching staff after the club won their 20th league crown. In the aftermath of the parade, a vehicle appeared to then plow into supporters gathered on Water Street in central Liverpool.
Emergency services were quick to arrive on the scene, with a North West Ambulance Service spokesperson commenting: "NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city center, following reports of a road traffic collision.

"We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible. Updates will be published on this page and Mersey Police as we know more."
Since then, an air ambulance has touched down in the center to aid the response. A statement from Merseyside Police confirmed that a man had been detained following the incident. We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city center," the statement read.
"We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.
"Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them." A heavy police presence remains in and around the area of the incident, with the fire service also spotted on the scene.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has released a statement on the incident, sending his wishes to those impacted by the crash. Posting on X, the statement reads: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling—my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.
"I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. I'm being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate."

GAA should 'change' Casement plans, says DUP minister
The minister in charge of sport in Northern Ireland has said plans for a new Casement Park stadium in west Belfast may have to be scaled back due to the funding shortfall. Communities Minister Gordon Lyons said the £50m offered on Wednesday by the UK government still left a "significant gap". In a statement to BBC News NI, he put the onus on the GAA to find more money or "change their plans to fit the funding". The price-tag for the planned 34,500-capacity stadium is about £100m more than is currently available. The GAA president, Jarlath Burns, has welcomed the £50m offered by the government but revealed the cost of rebuilding the derelict stadium is now "well over £270m". Mr Burns told Irish state broadcaster RTÉ on Wednesday: "The cost goes up by about £140,000 every month if we don't do anything because of the rising cost of infrastructure and building. "Time literally is money here." The GAA president is looking to the Stormont executive to help plug the funding gap. He said: "The executive now have to meet, and it's between really the two government parties to decide how they are going to make up the deficit that still exists between Casement Park not being built - and Casement Park being built." The statement from Lyons put the focus on the GAA itself. He said: "Additional money coming to Northern Ireland for sport must be allocated on a fair and equitable basis, a principle first agreed as part of the 2011 executive agreement and one I remain firmly committed to in the interests of fairness to all. "It will be up to the GAA to consider what additional contribution they are prepared to make or how they will change their plans to fit the funding that is available. "I look forward to engaging with the representatives of the GAA, football and rugby." Casement Park is expected to be among the topics discussed when ministers from the UK government sit down with their counterparts from the Stormont Executive in Belfast later. Although the stadium is not officially on the agenda of the East-West Council, it is sure to be discussed. This is only the second meeting of the council, a body set up last year to improve links between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK after lobbying from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) ahead of the restoration of devolution. The funding currently available for the Casement Park redevelopment includes £15m from the GAA, about £43m from the Irish government and £62.5m from Stormont. Given that the Stormont funding pledge is more than a decade old, there have been calls for inflation to be taken into account which would take the total close to £100m. Mr Burns has asked Stormont to consider an "inflationary uplift". The football authorities in Northern Ireland will be watching closely what happens next. The Irish Football Association has called for at least £50m to be given to the sport in line with the extra UK money pledged for the Casement Park redevelopment. Chief executive Patrick Nelson said that "parity" between major sports is required. Police officer banned for 'vulgar' comments
A gross misconduct hearing has upheld allegations that a male police officer engaged in inappropriate behaviour repeatedly towards female colleagues. PC Nathan Rogers would have been dismissed from West Mercia Police if he had not already resigned, the force said after the hearing on Tuesday. Mr Rogers made "highly offensive" and "vulgar" comments as well as initiating unwanted contact through social media - with his behaviour deemed "derogatory" and "harassing in nature". The former officer, who was based in the Operations and Communications Centre in Worcestershire, will be banned from working for a UK police service in the future. The hearing upheld an allegation that his behaviour, between June 2023 and May 2025, amounted to gross misconduct. West Mercia Police said his conduct was first formally addressed in June 2023, when he was sanctioned with a written warning. The force said despite both informal and formal interventions he continued to breach policing standards of professional behaviour. It said: "Despite prior disciplinary measures, Rogers repeatedly failed to uphold professional standards, showing a blatant disregard for his colleagues and for the values of the force. "The hearing found his actions breached the standards of authority, respect, and courtesy, and amounted to discreditable conduct." Mr Rogers resigned from the force in April 2024. Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Jones said: "Nathan Rogers was given opportunities to learn and change his behaviour, but he continued to act in a wholly unacceptable and unprofessional manner. "His actions were highly unprofessional and undoubtedly made his female colleagues feel deeply uncomfortable and such behaviour will not be tolerated." He will now be added to the College of Policing's barred list, banning him from working for a UK police service in the future. Warrington Wolves recruitment latest with mid-season moves explored
SAM Burgess has confirmed Warrington Wolves are exploring the possibility of adding mid-season recruits to their squad. However, he insisted that there was currently nothing imminent as they continue to assess their options.
