Matildas winger out for rest of ALW season
Speedy left winger Freier, 23, will head to German powerhouse VfL Wolfsburg on a deal through to June 2028 at season's end.
But she won't have any further chances to impress before then, after having successful surgery on Monday on the right ankle injured against Perth on January 26.
It means the fourth-placed Roar will have to face eight home-and-away games without Freier, plus a potential finals campaign, while she won't play in any type of farewell match.
The ankle injury also ruled Freier, who has scored two goals across nine Matildas caps, out of contention for this month's SheBelieves Cup in the US and friendlies against South Korea in Sydney and Newcastle in April.

"Brisbane Roar can confirm the unfortunate news that Sharn Freier will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after sustaining an ankle injury in round 13 against Perth Glory," the club revealed.
"The club wishes Sharn all the best with her recovery."
Freier had two goals and four assists this season, and had been a key part of Brisbane's attack alongside twin sister Laini and Matildas stalwart Tameka Yallop.
Sharn's bad injury news strikes as Laini relishes news of a first Matildas call-up, after scoring seven goals and two assists in her first professional season to date.
The Roar are back in action away to Western Sydney on Sunday.

"We are very accessible as a brand, and we want to be approachable. And I think it's a bit of the attitude and mindset that we have. We don't want to be seen as an arrogant luxury brand. We are a luxury brand, but I would hope our behavior and attitude, also towards fans and customers, is a different one, a very approachable one, and very engaging," he continued. Wilhelmsmeyer sees that approachability as being key to McLaren Automotive's future success. He said: "Not the fact that we are a winning team, but the behavior that is demonstrated in the team. Look at Zak's [Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing] team. Look at the two drivers. They have a fair competition. There's no order saying this is the one, number one driver, and this is the number two driver. And I think it's this, this attitude and spirit that customers love, the fans love. And, it's a team spirit. [McLaren is] not an ego-driven brand or company dominated by one individual or a superhero. It's always this team spirit... There's this positivity that comes with the brand, and there is less of an arrogance towards things."

Robles is currently with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League as he recovers from a shoulder injury. Seattle President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto told reporters before the Mariners game against the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday that the original plan was for the team to recall Robles next week, but now the suspension will change the Mariners' plans. Las Vegas starter Joey Estes' first pitch to Robles in the third inning was inside and Robles whacked at it to avoid getting hit. After taking a few steps behind the plate and dropping his bat, Robles picked up the bat and threw it in Estes' direction and was immediately ejected from the game by home plate umpire Joe McCarthy. Robles, who has been hit by a pitch three times in his previous four games with Tacoma including once previously by Estes, took some steps toward the mound while yelling at the pitcher but was held back by McCarthy and his Tacoma teammates. ADVERTISEMENT Robles issued an apology on his Instagram account following the incident. "I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field," he wrote in an Instagram story. "I let my frustration get the best of me, and I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain. "Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I've been doing my best to hold it together. That's not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I'm coming from." The suspension is to be effective on the first day Robles returns to the Mariners' active roster. He is not allowed to play in any game, including additional rehab games in the minors, once the suspension begins. He will be allowed to participate in pre-game workouts with the Mariners.
