BERLIN -Borussia Dortmund defender Niklas Suele will be sidelined for about two months after picking up a calf muscle injury in Sunday's pre-season friendly against Juventus, the Bundesliga club said on Monday.
The 29-year-old centre-back came on for Mats Hummels after 18 minutes but was taken off at halftime in the 2-1 loss, having suffered the problem without the involvement of another player.
Suele will miss this week's German Cup first-round tie at Essen and the first part of the Bundesliga season, with Dortmund kicking off their league campaign at St Pauli on August 23.
The Ruhr valley club, who finished fourth last season, will also compete in the Champions League league phase. REUTERS

Grealish, who had a medical on Monday and was at Everton's training ground on Tuesday, made only seven league starts last season and was not included in City's recent Club World Cup squad. He was also omitted from England's 2024 European Championship squad and has spoken of his determination to get back in the reckoning under Thomas Tuchel and add to his 39 senior caps. "I think we're getting him at a good time because he's experienced, he understands the Premier League, and we're all fully aware of the levels he's capable of performing to," said Moyes. "I know Jack's ambition is to get back into the England squad so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season." The system will be used starting with the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana continental club competitions, both of which begin later on Tuesday. CONMEBOL said the system, implemented in partnership with Signify Group, allows "threats to be identified in real time, abusive behaviour to be deterred and concrete action to be taken against those responsible."
