The 'best power bank on the market' is only £20 and is ideal for Oasis reunion gigs

Daily Record4 days ago
"I bought this power bank mainly for travelling and long days out, and it's been a total game-changer"
With the Scottish dates for the highly anticipated Oasis gigs fast approaching, music fans will want to make sure their phone is fully charged. Keeping your mobile full of juice helps keep you safe when travelling to and from the gigs, as well as meaning you can capture any of their favourite songs in the set list.
The Britpop icons will be taking to the stage at Murrayfield Stadium to perform three sold out shows on August 8, 9, and 12. However with thousands of people travelling to the concert, many people will be waiting in long queues before and after the set.
For added peace of mind so fans can fully enjoy the experience, it may be a good idea to bring a portable charger along to the event. Easily slipped into your bag or pocket, this nifty device will be able to give your phone a much needed boost throughout the day.
One device that is popular on Amazon is the JIGA Power Bank. Normally retailing for £38.06, shoppers can now snap it up for £19.99 in a limited time deal. As well as the 47 per cent discount, what drew many shoppers in with this device is the massive 27,000mAh battery, which reviewers have praised for giving their devices multiple chargers without really making a dent.
With multiple inputs and outputs, shoppers will be able to charge three devices at once, so if someone accompanying you to the Oasis gig needs a quick phone boost, this can be done at the same time as your own. In order to check how much battery is remaining, the device also comes with an LED light indicator.
Additionally, the power bank uses fast charging 22.5W technology to provide optimal charging by adjusting its settings. This will help cut the charging time of your phone by half while also protecting it from overvoltage. Another added bonus to this device is that it also comes with a bright torch to help users see in the dark.

Another popular portable charger on Amazon is the INIU Power Bank which boasts a 20,000mAh battery. Normally retailing for £32.99, shoppers can now grab it for £23.54. Able to provide 61 per cent charge in just 30 minutes, this charger comes with a LED display to help monitor the battery life.
Alternatively, shoppers can save 25 per cent when they buy the Juice 20,000mAh Integrated Max Portable Power Bank from Argos. Now down to £22.49 (RRP £29.99), this portable charger is said to hold enough power to provide up to five charges.
Back to the JIGA Power Bank, it currently holds a 4.2 star rating from over 23,600 Amazon shoppers. On top of this, over 3,000 people have bought the device in the past month to take with them on their travels or every day schedule.
One delighted shopper said: "I bought this power bank mainly for travelling and long days out, and it's been a total game-changer. The 27,000mAh capacity is no joke—I can charge my phone (iPhone 13) about five to six times before needing to recharge the power bank itself.
"It also works great with my brother's Samsung, and the fast charging actually is fast—way quicker than some older power banks I've used."
With another five-star reviewer adding: "No doubt the best power bank on the market, takes forever to charge indicating just how much power and capacity this beast has, no problem taking this camping or out for long trips I end up powering four people's phones by charging with different cables, 100% recommended this power bank to anyone."
However, a few shoppers did comment on the size and weight of the charger. One person said: "On the downside, it does take quite a bit of time to fully charge and it is heavy to carry around, although this is to be expected from a battery of this capacity."
With another customer adding: "Only reason for 4 stars not 5 is the weight, it's not light and I'm sure there are other (more expensive I'm sure) external batteries out there, but for the price it's well worth it."
Despite this, a top reviewer commented: "Brilliant power bank, as this lasted for all four days camping - it charged two mobiles each day, one Apple "atch each day and also a Kindle once. Yes it's bulky, but it's outstanding value for money."
With a sixth shopper saying: "This is excellent value for money as well as giving peace of mind. It couldn't be easier to use and will be invaluable during power cuts or long journeys. It is lightweight, given its power, and small enough to be easy to transport. Great little item!"

I quit my life in Scotland to become a US wrestling star

Luke Scouler, from Motherwell, left his job as a residential carer for young people to pursue his dream of being a pro wrestler. In just a few years, Luke, now known to fans as Crixus, has transitioned from sleeping in a gym car park to becoming a breakout star at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), an American wrestling brand which propelled the careers of John Cena and Dave Batista. The Scottish War Machine, who featured in the hit Netflix documentary Wrestlers, was also crowned OVW's first-ever Scottish champion. He recalled his decision to leave his job and home almost instantly after watching wrestling on TV. Luke said: 'I really loved that job. "But it was tough emotionally. "I've always had a bit of a Batman complex – I thought I was going to save everybody. 'I was in a bad place with it. "I knew it wasn't for me, and I was burned out. "I remember sitting in my house in Newmains watching TV with my dog, Odin, when wrestling came on and I just thought: 'Screw it, let's go.' "Scots have made it big in this business – why couldn't I?" Luke drove to London that same night and enrolled in a wrestling academy run by former WWE star and current OVW head trainer Al Snow. He said: "I drove through the night with no plan and no place to stay. "Me and the dog slept in the car for a bit. "Eventually the guy who ran it asked if I was serious. "I told him I'd already quit my job and left my house. "That was it. "We moved into the gym and didn't go back." Luke joined OVW in 2019 after coming first in a 300-person wrestling combine. However, his career was halted due to Covid, forcing him to stay in the UK for two years. Now based in Kentucky, he is one of the biggest stars at the promotion, and believes his Scottish roots are what set him up for success. Luke said: "We've got thicker skin, especially in Glasgow. "You're battle-ready by the time you leave primary school, so wrestling comes naturally to us. "I'm a smartass cheeky b******, and the accent helps too. "Over here in the States, people already think we're mental which helps. "I just turned my personality up to 11. "I wasn't pretending to be someone else – just the version of me you probably wouldn't want to sit next to in a pub. "I get to act like an a**** and they still love me. "They boo you, but they're cheering underneath." Al Snow, his mentor, believes Luke could be the next big Scottish wrestling star. "With Crixus, we may have another superstar on our hands. "His dedication has been incredible. "To make it in this business, you have to sacrifice and do things out of the ordinary. "And that's why I think he's got what it takes."

New electric vehicle charging hub opened in Glasgow

The six-bay hub on Castlebank Street in the West End, complete with three 150kW chargers, is part of Source's plan to install 300 such sites across the UK by 2030. Source, a new venture by energy giants SSE and TotalEnergies, aims to transform the EV charging experience with smarter, faster solutions. This latest hub allows drivers to "charge and go" in approximately 15 minutes. Read more: Decision made on plans to create EV charging hub in Paisley (Image: Supplied) As part of their customer-centric approach, Source has equipped the site with contactless payment terminals. EV owners can also download the SourceConnect app, enabling them to locate available charge points and monitor charging sessions in real time. New app features are in development, including advanced tools for fleet operators, booking options, and roaming access through Source's expanding partner network. Source has designed its hubs for efficiency and simplicity, offering round-the-clock customer service and powered by renewable energy. Their infrastructure is supported by technology from TotalEnergies and SSE. Deepa Chandrasekaran, managing director at Source, said: "The EV industry has reached a turning point, and we're here to lead it into uncharted territories. "At Source, we're not just building charge points, we're building confidence. "Our ambition is to capture 20% of the UK and Ireland's ultra-rapid market by delivering hubs that are easy to find, easy to use, and built for the future." Locations for Source's hubs are selected using data on user need and suitability, with Castlebank Street chosen due to its proximity to the A814, with a Burger King and Starbucks on the same site as the hub. Source's hubs aim to support these goals, catering to both individual drivers and fleet operators. Fiona Hyslop, Transport Secretary, said: "To reduce transport emissions and protect the climate, the Scottish Government is committed to phasing out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. "We can only do this if people have confidence in the availability of charging infrastructure – and that can only be achieved through private investment. "With private investment we can grow the network with the pace and scale required to meet our commitment to see approximately 24000 additional public charge points added by 2030."

Highland talent boss urges Scots to join screen industry as extras

Iain Wilkie, owner and founder of BBB Talent Agency – which represents more than 10,500 actors, extras and stunt specialists – said it will surprise people how easy it can be to get involved in the industry and how much fun working on set can be. The veteran actor, who has featured in shows like Outlander, The Crown, Downton Abbey and Outlaw King, said one of the best things about working as an extra is the community and the positive impact it has on your mental health. Wilkie, a former chef, said he knew working as an extra was a 'bit special' after he decided to dip his toe into the industry after he returned to Scotland following a stint living in London. READ MORE: Scottish crew 'excluded from Spider Man 4 filming' 'I didn't know what to do with my life, and then all of a sudden, I'm in this environment where it's fantasy, it is pure fantasy,' he said. Wilkie added that some of the best parts of the job are that everyone enjoys having a 'laugh' while on set and that you get to 'become a child again' as everything is catered for you and you're told exactly what to do at all times. 'I'll tell anybody this, if you are suffering from any mental health problems or depression or anything like that, if you have the motivation to find to get yourself up and to go out there, that will change your life,' he said. One of the best aspects of becoming an extra is the people you get to meet as shoots are often a 'melting pot' of personalities with people coming from all backgrounds to take part, Wilkie said. He explained you could be sitting, waiting to fill in as a soldier in a fight scene, along with a judge, a surgeon, or someone who works in a supermarket, as the job's flexibility attracts people from all aspects of life. (Image: Supplied) 'When you're on set, you are stripped of your personality because you're then put into a costume, so it doesn't matter who you are or what you do,' Wilkie said. He added: 'You can have someone who's trying to get off of benefits, trying to find work next to the guy who works in Tesco, next to one of Scotland's most senior cops, all in this wonderful, wonderful melting pot of people.' The BBB agency head said there is often a misconception that people need to look like Brad Pitt or Marlon Monroe to secure supporting roles in TV and film. 'They don't want that, they just want your every man,' he explained. Wilkie added that you don't need professional photographs and that you can use your phone to upload pictures of yourself to the talent agency's app as long as they are clear and have a clear background. 'As long as you can see someone's face and their hair colour correctly, and their shape in a full-length picture, and their measurements are up to date. Job done. 'It's really that simple. What they're looking to do is find a face that fits that scene and find a costume that fits them.' He added that the beauty of the job is that you can do as much as you want or as little as you want; you just have to give the producers your availability. Wilkie founded BBB Talent Agency, originally named Beautiful Bearded Bastards, around eight years ago because he enjoyed the camaraderie on the set so much. What originally started as an unofficial coalition between extras and stunt people soon became a unified force, with Wilkie helping to lead the charge. BBB Talent Agency is renowned across the UK's TV and film industry for supplying talent for some of the biggest shows, including Hollywood blockbusters and top streaming programmes from the likes of Netflix. Extras at Wilkie's agency have been involved with some of the most memorable scenes from TV in the last decade, including the last big battle for the final season of Outlander and Game of Thrones's Battle of the Bastards, which is the longest battle scene ever filmed for TV. 'The BBBs are fantastic. My community is just unbelievable. I mean, I'm so lucky.' (Image: Supplied) Wilkie also decided to roll up his sleeves and tackle the industry's union for extras, Equity, around six years ago over a pay dispute, as he said the industry rate had not changed in 15 years. Despite being warned he could lose everything he had built, Wilkie took on the union and won an improved rate for Scotland's extras and stunt performers. Wilkie said his win against the union to help better support the industry was a catalyst for BBB Talent Agency and helped him along to the success that the Highland firm has found to date.
