Lindsay Lohan Says She Still Has "PTSD to the Extreme" From Her Early Fame
Lindsay Lohan has opened up about the harrowing realities of being a teen star in the early aughts.
"They were terrifying moments I had in my life—I have PTSD to the extreme from those things," she recalled.
Lohan went on to explain how her early experiences of fame have led her to carve out a more private life for her family.Lindsay Lohan was one of the biggest stars of her generation. After hit after hit at the turn of the millennium—The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, Mean Girls—she was the one to watch. But the intrusive nature of celebrity culture of the early 2000s took its toll on the young star. In a new interview, Lohan is opening up about just how harrowing the experience really was.
'You want to achieve acclaim, though maybe not all the aspects that come with it," she told The Times in an interview published on August 2, speaking about the nature of fame. "You're not asking to be followed and have people be intrusive toward you.' Unfortunately, for young stars particularly at that time, that's often what fame entailed—and it was certainly the experience Lohan had.
'I don't ever want my family to experience being chased by the paparazzi the way I was. They were terrifying moments I had in my life—I have PTSD to the extreme from those things," she went on. "The most invasive situations. Really scary. And I pray stuff like that never comes back. It's not safe. It's not fair.'
Being hounded by the paparazzi left Lohan feeling a little disillusioned about the entertainment industry. She found herself craving some time to herself. 'I wanted to take a minute,' she said, explaining that she stepped back from her career to "figure out how to have a more private life, a real life."
Although celebrity culture may have improved slightly since the early aughts, fame still presents its dangers. "Now, somebody will have a phone up all the time,' she said. 'That's scary. That feels very uncomfortable. I'd rather someone just ask if they can take a photo or else you get cautious of every move you make.'
That "uncomfortable" feeling is one of the reasons why Lohan and her family prefer to live in Dubai where they can feel some sense of privacy. She and husband Bader Shammas also chose to keep their son Luai's face private on social media. 'It's something my husband and I discuss all the time," she said. "Do we want to show our son? We will know when the time might be right, but it's also a protection."
Last year, Lohan told Bustle that she felt that the negative press attention she received in her early years "overshadowed" her actual work. 'I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that's kind of annoying. I wish that part didn't happen,' she said. 'I feel like that kind of took on a life of its own. So that's why I wanted to disappear. I was like, 'Unless there's no story here, they're not going to focus on just my work.''
In some ways, her current Freakier Friday press tour has been a sartorial expression of how she is reclaiming her identity in this new phase of her career. Many of her looks have celebrated that work that she once felt was "overshadowed." She embraced Y2K prom dress style. She recreated an iconic look from the original Freaky Friday. She even paid homage to both twins from The Parent Trap.

Stephen A Smith reveals he took ‘major offense' to Michelle Obama's criticism of Trump voters
Stephen A Smith says he took 'major offense' over remarks made by Michelle Obama during the 2024 presidential election, when the former First Lady seemingly scolded young Black men for considering to vote for Donald Trump. The ESPN host said that while he thought of Obama as 'the greatest first lady in American history,' her rhetoric while campaigning for former Vice President Kamala Harris had left him feeling 'pretty salty.' Smith made the comments on Saturday's episode of The Stephen A Smith show, in response to being name-checked by Obama in an episode of her own podcast, IMO, in which she compared ESPN to reality television. 'If I listen to ESPN for an hour, it's like watching the Real Housewives of Atlanta,' Obama said. 'I mean, you know, it's the same drama, and they're yelling at each other and they don't get along, you know? I mean, Stephen A Smith, he's just like every other talk show host.' Smith made it clear that, while he disagreed with the parallel drawn, other remarks by the first lady had irritated him more. 'You said a vote for Trump was a vote against you and a vote against y'all as women,' Smith said. 'I want to stay for the record, I took major offense to that. Black men don't just love our black women, we revere y'all. 'It's who we are. And to say what you said back then, I think to this day, is the only thing that I didn't like that you said, I didn't appreciate it.' At a rally in Michigan in October, Obama told rally-goers that she was 'a little frustrated' by things she had heard about why people were not fully getting behind Harris' shot at the presidency. Speaking directly to men, she emphasized how further restrictions on abortion and other aspects of women's health care, proposed by the Trump campaign, would impact them and their sons, too. 'I am asking y'all from the core of my being to take our lives seriously — please,' Obama said. 'Do not put our lives in the hands of politicians — mostly men — who have no clue or do not care about what we, as women, are going through.' This struck a chord with Smith, who pointed out in his podcast episode that there were many other reasons that such men may have chosen not to vote for Harris, including the economy, national security and even immigration. 'You will never hear me utter a negative word about you, but I respectfully disagreed and still remain pretty salty about what you said about us.' He added that he was 'even more adamant about what your husband, Barack Obama said,' referring to the former president's berating of young Black male voters, who he subtly accused of being misogynistic with their voting habits. He pundit, who himself has been linked with a presidential run, added that he though Michelle Obama would have beaten Trump in 2024, and any other GOP candidate if she chooses to run for office.

Loni Anderson, of WKRP in Cincinnati Fame, Dead at 79
Loni Anderson, who turned heads as the office bombshell on the CBS sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati, has died at the age of 79. Anderson passed away Sunday in Los Angeles after 'an acute prolonged illness,' her publicist Cheryl J. Kagan tells The Hollywood Reporter. More from TVLine Junior Edwards, Swamp People Star, Dies R.I.P., Ozzy Osbourne: Kelly Osbourne Pays Tribute to Her Rock Legend Dad ('I Lost the Best Friend I Ever Had') Chuck Mangione, Jazz Musician and King of the Hill Guest Star, Dead at 84 Born and raised in Minnesota, Anderson went to Hollywood and booked guest-star roles on S.W.A.T., Police Woman and Three's Company (where she actually auditioned for the role of Chrissy Snow, later played by Suzanne Somers). Her big break came in 1978, when she won the role of receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on CBS' WKRP in Cincinnati. Jennifer was beautiful, yes, but she had brains, too, using her sex appeal to her full advantage. WKRP in Cincinnati ran for four seasons and earned three Emmy nominations for best comedy series, but a number of time slot changes led to a steep drop in ratings, with CBS deciding to pull the plug in 1982. WKRP became a hit in syndication, though, with repeats earning big viewership throughout the '80s. Anderson herself earned a pair of Emmy nominations for her work on WKRP, and when it ended, she did more film work, including co-starring in 1983's Stroker Ace with Burt Reynolds, whom she later married. Anderson reprised her role as Jennifer in The New WKRP in Cincinnati, a revival that ran in syndication from 1991 to 1993. She also joined the cast of the NBC sitcom Nurses in 1993 and guest-starred on Melrose Place and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Your Daily TeenScope for August 04, 2025
Let's face it—most 'teen' horoscopes are written by folks whose ages haven't ended with '-teen' since 2002 and are subsequently pretty cringe. We can't guarantee that our daily horo will never be cringe, but we can guarantee that it'll at least be useful. Aries You're feeling rather withdrawn today, but that doesn't mean you can't have a social life. Just tag along with friends and let them lead the way for once -- you should all have a surprisingly good time. Taurus Think twice before reacting to something someone tells you today -- you may be more sensitive than you realize. There's a weird energy coursing through you that may skew the way you see things temporarily. Gemini You can usually get by with your quick reactions and supple mind, but today requires a bit more care than that. Think everything through at least twice before going through with it. Cancer You may not be too sure about something that a friend or sweetie is trying to push you into, so drag your heels until you know in your heart that it's the right thing for you at this time. Leo Nothing makes sense on the surface today -- or if it does, it's deceptive. Look at things more closely, take your time and really figure out what's gong on in people's heads and hearts. Looking for a better romance? Find the empowerment you need with our Karma Love Report. 💞 Virgo Listen to your heart -- and do what it says. Scorpio Some old injury starts to heal faster -- and it may not be physical. Your emotional immune system is on the line, and you should find that things start to look a lot brighter really soon. Sagittarius Your subconscious mind is incredibly active today, letting you see links between disparate ideas and people you would never have thought had anything in common. Keep it up and see where it all leads. Capricorn Take a good look at how you're thinking about the way things have been going -- perhaps all you need is an internal tweak to make more sense of your life. Things can be pretty great. Aquarius You're a bit frustrated over something that seems to be going wrong in your life -- and the best way to get past it is to help out someone else who's also frustrated. That kind of karma is incredibly valuable. Pisces You might have to bite the bullet and sign on with something you're not completely sure of -- but try to get your parents or some other adults to intervene, if possible.
