'I cast Celebrity Big Brother - Gary Lineker wanted an eye-watering fee'

Gary Lineker was in genuine talks to appear in the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother – but for an astonishing fee. The former Match of the Day presenter, 64, abruptly left the BBC earlier this year after sharing a social media post about Zionism that included an illustration of a rat, unaware that historically it had been used as an antisemitic symbol. He's already lined up to present a new ITV gameshow, The Box, his first gig on the BBC's rival channel, but was tempted to enter the CBB house back in March. Big Brother executives Natalka Znak and Katy Manley joined former Big Brother producer Phil Edgar-Jones and recent Celebrity Big Brother housemate Angellica Bell for a panel talk celebrating 25 years of the show at the Edinburgh TV Festival. Znak revealed that Gary Lineker was in serious talks to join the Celebrity Big Brother house this year—but his fee was eye-watering. 'Gary Lineker, we tried to get last year, but he wanted £4,000,000,' she told the audience, prompting shocked laughter from the crowd. Znak also revealed that she's already been in meetings with an American celebrity lined up for Celebrity Big Brother 2026, following the explosive appearances of U.S. stars JoJo Siwa and Mickey Rourke earlier this year. Both left the house under vastly different circumstances—and levels of success. With the next series already in the works, Znak was asked who her dream housemate would be. She replied enthusiastically: 'I'd love a royal. I'd love Kanye West and his wife.' Next month, a documentary about Kanye West—now legally known as Ye—will be released in select cinemas. The disgraced hip-hop star has been followed by filmmaker Nico Ballesteros for the past six years, a period that has seen a dramatic decline in his public image, deeply troubling behaviour, the breakdown of his marriage to Kim Kardashian, and his subsequent marriage to Bianca Censori. In a recent trailer, West states, 'I'm off my meds for five months now.' His ex-wife, Kardashian, adds: 'Your personality was not like this a few years ago.' West insists: 'I would rather be dead than be on medication… Either they destroy me, or I destroy it. I'm almost like a masochist… I write whatever I want, when I want! It's words!' After being one of the most successful musicians of all time, he's now completely untouchable, reduced to making strange appearances on right-wing-leaning podcasts and Piers Morgan's YouTube show. More Trending An appearance on Celebrity Big Brother no longer seems beyond the realm of possibility – if ITV is prepared to house him. Jack P. Shepherd was crowned the most recent winner of Celebrity Big Brother, in somewhat of a surprise result over Drag Race UK star Danny Beard. It was a series filled with controversy, with Mickey Rourke being kicked out of the house after repeated use of inappropriate language and unacceptable behaviour toward fellow housemates. His reported £500,000 fee was subsequently slashed to just £50,000. View More » Celebrity Big Brother returns to ITV in 2026. Big Brother returns later this year. Got a story? Former Strictly Come Dancing boss issues defiant defence of scandal-hit show

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A former Strictly Come Dancing boss has defended the series amid its numerous scandals and ongoing backlash. Moira Ross, a highly experienced executive producer and show runner, has worked on a number of major reality series such as The Voice UK as well as Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer in the US. In 2010, she was responsible for relaunching Strictly on the BBC, reigniting the show's popularity to its highest ever viewing figures and seeing it go on to become a multi-award winner. However, speaking ahead of the release of her latest Apple TV project KPOPPED – a competition which pits music icons against K-pop idols – the producer has hit back against rumours that shows such as Strictly could be facing cancellation due to lower viewing figures. In recent years, the BBC series has been plagued by a series of controversies, including when two former professionals, Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima, were removed after behavioural accusations from former partners were revealed. Following that, Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, 53, was sensationally dumped from the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour over inappropriate comments. Most recently, police confirmed an investigation into Strictly after claims two of its stars used cocaine. This came after a longtime worker said they were offered drugs by a star on the show. But, asked what she made of claims that the show may not have a future, Moira vehemently argued: 'I think they're all coming from the same place. 'They're all coming from big hearted, wonderful entertainment, and we need that and we're always going to be enjoying that. 'Look how successful Glastonbury is, Strictly is still monumentally successful. 'We love to be entertained, music's a common language. I don't think we're ever going to get sick of huge, wonderful, aspirational entertainment shows. We just want more and more of them.' Moira's latest show KPOPPED sees the likes of the Spice Girls, Boy George, Kesha and Vanilla Ice reimagine their hit songs in collaboration with K-pop stars before they compete in battle performances judged by an audience in Seoul. Starring PSY and Megan Thee Stallion, the eight-episode series sees two worlds – the East and West – combine. Asked where the inspiration for the show came from, Moira said: 'The idea was to explore a brand new sort of music genre, a music show that hasn't been attempted before. 'Something aspirational and celebrational, and something that takes us away from those traditional music shows that are quite wonderful, but it's time for it's for a new a new spin on things.' Discussing her hope for viewers, she also added: 'I would like people to find absolute joy in it. 'I'd love them to want to know even more about K pop and take their next holidays in Korea. I'd love that. I'd think, 'We've done something great here.' 'But really, it's just a proper celebration of cultural crossovers. And if we can enjoy that, then we've done our job.' KPOPPED premieres exclusively on Apple TV Plus on Friday August 29. Got a story? Celebrity Traitors first look as stars 'buried alive' and 'trapped in pipe tunnel'

EXCLUSIVE The first clip of the celebrity version of The Traitors has been shown The first sneak peak at The Celebrity Traitors reveals that the stars are in for a grim time in the castle - with the missions including coffins and pipe-tunnels in which they are trapped. ‌ A short clip showed a picture of a coffin with the lid closing, which suggests that one of the missions will involve the stars being buried alive. ‌ And another of the fearsome challenges, in which the stars must work hard to build up their charity prize post, will involve a pipe-style tunnel with a grate which can come down at any moment - trapping the celebrities inside and ending their involvement in that mission. ‌ At the start of the first episode, to air on BBC1 in October, Olympian Tom Daly makes the extreme declaration: 'I'm going to fight to the death.' Looking equally serious, actress Celia Imrie declares: 'I'm here to win.' And Alan Carr seems surprised as he confesses: 'Maybe I have got a dark side.' But Stephen Fry seems a bit more relaxed as he reclines in a chair and admits: 'I don't know what beast lies within me.' ‌ In the clip, shown at the Edinburgh TV Festival, sports presenter Clare Balding is also shown looking forward to the missions, or perhaps just the round-table deliberations, as she says:: 'Let the games commence.' In the video host Claudia Winkleman says: 'They think they know what they've signed up for. They've got no idea.' BBC head of unscripted Syeda said she was worried that the stars wouldn't enter into it with the same level of commitment as the regular contestants. 'We had nothing to worry about,'she said. 'Some of the things you'll see them do are extraordinary.' She said that by the end, some of the famous faces felt they'd never be the same again. 'Some of the celebrities said at the end that they were quite changed by it.' ‌ Kate Phillips, the new boss of BBC content, said she'd now watched the series and was astonished by what she'd witnessed. 'I thought 'I can't believe what I'm seeing them doing'. The celebrity edition of the game of deception and betrayal will also include singer Charlotte Church, TV presenter Kate Garraway plus chat show host Jonathan Ross, singers Paloma Faith and Cat Burns and former England rugby player Joe Marler. A total of 19 famous faces gathered for filming at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands earlier this summer or the chance to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice. Claudia has previously said: 'We're incredibly lucky these brilliant people have said yes. I'd love to say we'll take it easy on them and they'll just wander round the castle and eat toast for a couple of weeks but that would be a lie.'
