Julien Baker and Torres cancel gigs due to concussion

Yahoo27-03-2025

Julien Baker and Torres have had to cancel upcoming performances due to one of their "key members" sustaining a concussion.
The country duo announced the cancellation of shows at Ohio University and Knoxville's Big Ears Festival this coming weekend.
"Over the weekend one of our key members sustained a concussion and will need to take the next few weeks to recover," the pair posted to Instagram.
"We share your disappointment at this news. Our team is in the process of updating programming with announcements coming shortly. All ticket holders will be fully refunded. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate cancellation."
The news comes as Baker and Torres shared their haunting new single Dirt, from their forthcoming collaborative album Send A Prayer My Way.
The acoustic-driven ballad marks the fourth single to be released from their upcoming album, which is set for release on 18 April.
Baker has received six Grammy Award nominations and three wins as a member of indie supergroup Boygenius alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus.
After duetting a couple of songs together at Baker's 2024 New York shows, she and musician Torres were announced as a joint act on the lineup of several festivals for 2025.

Everything we know about Tina Romero's queer 'glam-gore' zombie film, 'Queens of the Dead'

Gear up, queens! A new zombie apocalypse film is on its way — but this one is putting LGBTQ+ characters front and center. Tina Romero is set to carry on the horror legacy of her father, George A. Romero, with a zombie flick of her own, Queens of the Dead. The horror-comedy project was announced last summer, promising a "genre-smashing, glam-gore thrill ride through the zombie apocalypse." "The zombie apocalypse is such a rich sandbox to play in when it comes to social commentary. I can't be my dad's daughter without making an attempt at saying something with zombies," Romero told Entertainment Weekly. "It's very much not a film he would make, but it is using his vocabulary and is playing by his rules. As far as the queer element, on one hand, I just feel like the gays need a zombie film. It's time that we get to have a big gay zombie movie." Are you hyped yet?! Here's what we know about the movie so far: See on Instagram According to the official Instagram page for the film, Queens of the Dead "follows an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies who must put aside their personal dramas and use their unique skills to combat the brain-thirsty undead when a zombie apocalypse breaks out during their drag show in Brooklyn." See on Instagram Queens of the Dead boasts a stacked cast of comedy and queer faves. Katy O'Brian, Jaquel Spivey, Tomás Matos, Margaret Cho, Jack Haven, and Cheyenne Jackson are leading the charge, with Riki Lindhome, Tom Savini, Eve Lindley, Dominique Jackson, Nina West, and Shaunette Renée Wilson among those rounding out the cast. Romero directed the film, which is based on a script she co-wrote with Erin Judge. See on Instagram Most of the scenes for Queens of the Dead were filmed at a warehouse in New Jersey, with some additional shots taking place in Bushwick in Brooklyn. According to O'Brian, the location wound up helping the crew pull in favors from a larger production that had recently wrapped up filming in New York, The Bride! "Our budget was not big, and people really were doing this out of the love for the project. I think it really shows," she said. "Our hair and makeup department pulled in some favors and got all of this zombie stuff." See on Instagram There is not currently a trailer publicly available for Queens of the Dead, although it seems likely one will drop soon. See on Instagram Queens of the Dead has its official world premiere slated for June 7, 2025, at the Tribeca Film Festival. It's unclear yet as to whether the film will ultimately get theatrical distribution or go straight to streaming after running the festival circuit — let alone when that might be — but we'll keep our fingers crossed for sometime in 2025!

Faster Pussycat frontman Taime Downe breaks silence on fiancée's mysterious cruise ship death

Taime Downe has broken his silence. The Faster Pussycat frontman opened up about his fiancée Kimberly Burch's death for the first time since she plunged over the side of a cruise ship following an alleged argument with the '80s glam rocker on March 2. 'It's a roller coaster,' Downe, 60, said during SiriusXM's 'Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk' on Friday, May 30. 'I'm hanging in there. I'm just taking it a day at a time.' 6 Faster Pussycat frontman Taime Downe has broken his silence on his fiancée's mysterious cruise ship death. Instagram/Kimberly Burch 'And everybody thought going out on the road and doing what I do and being with my family in my band would be good for me,' he continued. 'So I've taken their advice and I'm doing this. We're going out with some cool bands.' Downe and Burch, 56, were onboard a Royal Caribbean ship called Explorer of the Seas for an '80s-themed cruise where Faster Pussycat was performing alongside other bands like Men at Work, Squeeze and Tiffany. But on the first night of the seven-day voyage, Burch fell to her death while the ship was out to sea between Miami and the Bahamas. 6 Kimberly Burch plunged over the side of a cruise ship on March 2. burchkimberly/Instagram Burch's mother told TMZ that the tragedy happened shortly after her daughter and Downe got into a 'heated' argument and that Burch had been drinking shortly before falling overboard. Downe added that his fiancée's shocking death was 'alcohol and prescription-related' during his interview with Trunk. 'So I blame alcohol and pills on it,' he said. 'There's no way I'd touch booze. For me, that's just completely disgusting in my brain, you know what I mean?' 6 Burch shared this social media post shortly before plunging overboard. Instagram/Kimberly Burch 'So I've got some hatred for booze, 'cause I loved the hell out of Kimberly, and it was just hard to deal with,' the 'House of Pain' singer continued. 'We spent basically nine years together.' 'This is just heavy s–t,' Downe added, 'and I'm just looking forward to playing shows and having fun.' While the 'Poison Ivy' vocalist said that 'it is what it is,' he also admitted that it's 'good to talk about it' three months after his fiancée's disappearance and death. 6 The couple was together for around six years before Burch's shocking disappearance and death. Instagram/Kimberly Burch 'It's good to talk about it. It's good to talk about it with my friends, my close-knit friends,' he said. 'But I don't really wanna talk about it with strangers, 'cause it doesn't seem appropriate.' 'It is what it is,' Downe added. A video of the incident, which has since been obtained by investigators, reportedly showed Burch climbing the cruise ship's railing before plunging off. It is still unclear whether she purposely jumped or accidentally fell. 6 'I loved the hell out of Kimberly,' Towne said of his late fiancée. Instagram/Kimberly Burch Her body was never recovered. Her brother, Keith, exclusively told The Post in March that his family is 'lost' without Burch. 'We feel lost … We have no answers at all,' he said. 'Something happening to one of your loved ones, and not even knowing what happened — it's awful.' Her family also addressed her death in a Facebook on March 4. 6 Faster Pussycat kicked off a new tour on May 30. FilmMagic 'She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her,' her loved ones stated. 'We ask for prayers during this time for our family as we try to wrap our minds around this heartbreaking tragedy. We love and miss you, Kimberly Burch!' Meanwhile, Downe and Faster Pussycat kicked off a new tour on May 30 in Las Vegas. The band will be on the road through early July. 'I just think it'll be very therapeutic to get to see a bunch of fans and a bunch of friends across the country,' Downe said of Faster Pussycat's current tour. 'So I think it'll be helpful.'

Former DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg co-leads $15.5M Series A for AI video ad platform

DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg's venture fund WndrCo co-led a $15.5 million Series A round for Creatify, an AI video ad platform. Creatify's AdMax platform uses AI to quickly generate dozens of video advertisements, which are geared toward social media marketing -- AdMax analyzes high-performing social video campaigns on apps like TikTok and Instagram to shape its output. Tech industry titans have been bullish on AI advertising. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently spoke about his ambitions to automate all of advertising with an AI ad tool, which would test thousands of ads on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads users. This degree of automation may seem drastic, but it is not a foregone conclusion. While Katzenberg has been an entertainment industry executive since before DVDs were invented, his bets are not always correct -- he was also the founder of Quibi, the short video platform that infamously raised $1.75 billion and shut down six months later.
