Two huge BBC radio stars join Celebrity Gogglebox and promise 'no filter'

Daily Mirror04-06-2025
Fellow Boltonians Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness have signed up together for the new series of Celebrity Gogglebox, which kicks off on Friday
Two Radio 2 stars are teaming up for the first time to appear on Celebrity Gogglebox - and have promised to have 'no filter' when it comes to sharing their opinions.
Fellow Boltonians Vernon Kay and Paddy McGuinness, both 51, will be sitting alongside each other when the show returns to Channel 4 on Friday.

Vernon told the Mirror he was planning to let his guard down when it came to his comments. "Can't wait to be on Celebrity Gogglebox with Paddy as we both love the show, and always have. It's proper feel-good telly, and I reckon me and Paddy will bring the full commentary package – strong opinions, big laughs, and a serious lack of filter.'

Paddy agreed that he was delighted to take part in a series he'd been watching for years. 'I'm delighted to be doing Celebrity Gogglebox with Vernon. I've been on there enough times behind the camera, finally I get a chance to talk about other shows. I've been a fan of Gogglebox for ages, so to be part of it with a fellow Boltonian is belting. As you'd expect with Vernon and myself it'll be full of cultured, intellectual chat. Let the armchair punditry commence!'
The pair have plenty in common - not only are they the same age, from the same place, and work for the same radio station, they have both taken on huge sporting challenges for Children in Need in recent years.
In 2023 Vernon raised more than £6million with his ultra ultra marathon while last year Paddy pulled in more than £10million by cycling 300 miles on a Raleigh Chopper.
And when it comes to TV they really should know what they're talking about - Paddy's former shows include Top Gear, A Question of Sport and Take Me Out - plus Peter Kay comedy Phoenix Nights - while Vernon fronted All Star Family Fortunes, Splash and T4.

Many of the regulars will be back for Celebrity Gogglebox including Rylan Clark and his mum Linda, Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan, Gok Wan and Fearne Cotton, Gyles Brandreth and Lulu, Nick and Liv Grimshaw, Clare Balding and Alice Arnold, Mo Gilligan and Babatunde Aleshe and Martin and Roman Kemp. Also new for this series are Inbetweeners star James Buckley and his wife Clair.
The 37-year-old actor, best known for portraying Jay Cartwright in the hit sitcom, announced this weekend that he and his wife of 13 years were joining the show. In a video he quipped: 'We are joining the Gogglebox family. We're going to be watching some great TV and some not so great TV.'
James and Clair, who met on social media and have two children together, have already won fans over with their podcast, At Home With The Buckleys, which looks at "the wild ride that is modern marriage, parenting and adulting"'.

Phillip Schofield kisses male friend after stumbling out of boozy lunch at bar

Former ITV This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield was seen leaning on a male companion as they left a bar together after enjoying a boozy lunch in central London Former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield was seen leaving a bar with a mystery male companion. The 63-year-old, who stepped down from ITV in 2023 following his departure from This Morning, was spotted in the heart of London just a few days ago. ‌ Images obtained by the Mirror show him clad in a blue top, navy shorts and matching footwear, enjoying the city's summer weather last week. ‌ His companion was similarly attired for the balmy conditions, donning a short-sleeved black shirt, beige shorts and dark shoes. The identity of the individual accompanying Phillip remains undisclosed. ‌ The duo were captured with their arms wrapped around each other as they strolled through the area. In some images, Phillip can be seen with his arm around his companion's waist, while they had an arm resting on the TV star's shoulder. Since his resignation from ITV in 2023, Phillip has largely remained out of the public eye. His decision to leave coincided with his admission of an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger colleague during his time on This Morning. ‌ He expressed regret for previously misleading about the situation. In his resignation announcement, the former Dancing on Ice host also confirmed that the "consensual on-off relationship" had come to an end. Phillip nevertheless returned to television on Channel 5's Cast Away last year. The three-part programme showed him discussing his life whilst stranded on a deserted island for ten days, and also included his family in segments recorded at their home. ‌ The broadcaster, who revealed five years ago that he was gay, shares two children with Stephanie Lowe, 60, who he has been married to since 1993. The pair are parents to daughters Molly Schofield, 32, and Ruby Schofield, 29. As reported at the time, Molly revealed in the programme that everything that occurred has brought the family "closer". She said: "We've seen him at his lowest times, but I've been so proud of him, and as a daughter to see the love that people had for him that when it's taken away it's just heartbreaking." Phillip looked back on his career in the programme. As reported at the time, he explained that whilst he misses some "parts" of it, he doesn't miss everything about his previous jobs. ‌ He said in a scene: "I miss parts of it. I miss most of it. There are bits I really, really don't miss. You learn a lot about people. You learn a lot about people. I don't miss that." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! ITV This Morning star returns to show with heartwarming personal announcement

This Morning star Nick Ferrari returned to the show following his wedding to Clare Goodwin, after 10 years of dating This Morning star Nick Ferrari returned to the ITV programme with delightful personal news: he disclosed that he had recently tied the knot. ‌ During Tuesday's (August 12) episode of the popular daytime television show, Andi Peters and Emma Willis stepped in as presenters, covering for Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, who are currently enjoying their summer holidays from the ITV chat show, reports the Mirror. ‌ Moments before launching into the day's headlines, Andi declared: "Alison is here alongside the nearly wed Nick Ferrari." ‌ The broadcaster received enthusiastic applause as Andi asked, "Was it a wonderful day?" Nick replied, "It was, and the weather smiled on us. We had to make our way around Parliament Square just before the arrest, so as a car went past, the police moved in." A photograph from his special day then appeared on screen as Nick continued: "I look startled or like I'm being heckled, but she (Clare) chose that picture, so I'm not going to argue." ‌ Commenting on his wardrobe selection for today's programme, Andi remarked, "It looks like you're wearing the same suit and shirt." Everyone erupted in laughter as Nick clarified: "I have got more than one pink shirt, Andi." Emma chimed in: "Aw, congratulations." Andi quipped, "Nice to have you straight back, back to work. She's got you working straight away." Nick responded: "Well, I've got to pay for the frock." ‌ Nick, 66, exchanged vows with his long-term partner, Clare Goodwin, this weekend following a 10-year relationship. The couple exchanged vows at the Old Marylebone Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of their nearest and dearest, before heading back to Nick's South East London residence for a garden reception. Their paths first crossed at Global Radio, where Clare holds the position of Head of Branded Content for Heart, Smooth, LBC, and Gold. Clare's wedding dress was crafted by Needle and Thread, while her friend Robin took care of the floral arrangements. ‌ Their nuptials come after Nick publicly announced their engagement earlier this year during a meal at their favourite restaurant in the south of France. Nick's proposal tale showcased his sense of humour. He confessed to keeping Clare in suspense about when he would propose, even humorously dropping to one knee in a DIY shop. Instead of presenting a ring, he asked her to hand him a screwdriver, then picked up a jubilee clip - a type of hose clamp - as a makeshift engagement ring. The pair later purchased a "decent ring" the following morning.
