Mumbai: Sanjay Nambiar , the group general counsel of Yes Bank , has resigned and is currently serving his gardening leave. Yes Bank , under its erstwhile management, has been part of a long-drawn investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into a loan fraud case involving firms linked to Anil Ambani "It is true that Sanjay Nambiar has resigned," an official spokesperson for the lender confirmed Thursday in an emailed response to ET's specific queries.Nambiar, who was general counsel at Yes Bank for nearly 15 years, had previously worked at ICICI Bank for over four years, as per his LinkedIn profile.According to the ED, preliminary investigations showed that loans worth around ₹3,000 crore, sanctioned by Yes Bank between 2017 and 2019, were allegedly diverted to shell firms and other group entities. One key aspect of the ED probe involves loans sanctioned by Yes Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda to various ADAG group entities, and a related ₹2,850-crore investment made by Reliance Mutual Fund in Yes Bank's AT-1 bonds. The ED suspects these transactions may have involved quid pro quo arrangements. The AT-1 bonds considered quasi-equity in nature, were written off by the RBI after Mint Road had ordered the board of the private lender be superseded in March 2020. A consortium of lenders then bailed out Yes Bank from the brink of collapse.

"Fadnavis Act": Sanjay Raut's Big Allegation As Agency Probes Civic Official
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate's ongoing probe into former Vasai-Virar Municipal Commissioner Anil Pawar has triggered political tremors in Maharashtra, with Sanjay Raut - MP from Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena -- alleging that senior minister Dada Bhuse played a key role in Pawar's controversial appointment, which might bring the Central agency to his door next. This adds Mr Bhuse -- a Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde faction leader -- to the long list of ministers who have been on the Opposition's radar over multiple cases in recent weeks. Mr Raut said the government's increasing focus on the Sena ministers could just be a ploy to keep the ally in check. Mr Raut used the moment to target Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of double standards. "There's a Fadnavis Act in Maharashtra. When ministers in his government are accused of wrongdoing, they are simply told what went wrong and let off. But when it comes to common citizens, or Opposition leaders, they are dealt with strictly," Mr Raut said. He has also pointed to the larger context, suggesting that the BJP is using agencies like the ED to keep allies like the Shinde Sena in check. "Amit Salunkhe's arrest, ED raids on the relatives of Shinde Sena ministers -- these are not isolated incidents," he said. "They show how the BJP is trying to keep Eknath Shinde's people under pressure." The political row erupted after the ED, on Tuesday, carried out inspections at multiple properties linked to Anil Pawar. A 413-square-metre plot at the foothills of Pandav Leni in Nashik's Pathardi area was among those surveyed. Officials suspect that Pawar may have misused administrative privileges during his tenure to acquire the land. Properties in Satana are also under the ED's scanner, with sources indicating possible irregularities in ownership and acquisition. Mr Raut has alleged that Pawar's selection as Vasai-Virar Commissioner was done by bypassing service rules, allegedly at the behest of Mr Bhuse, who was then the agriculture minister. He claimed Mr Bhuse had issued a formal recommendation in Pawar's favour, which was subsequently acted upon by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. "Dada Bhuse not only recommended Anil Pawar, but ensured he got the post despite violations of protocol. The ED might knock on his door next," Mr Raut warned. Mr Bhuse denied any wrongdoing and dismissed claims that Pawar was a close relative. But he did not categorically deny issuing a recommendation letter. He also turned the tables, saying Raut too had signed similar recommendation letters in the past. The controversy comes amid clear signs of unease within the Mahayuti alliance, especially after several Shinde Sena MLAs stayed away from a dinner hosted by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Mr Raut claimed the internal rift, combined with increasing ED action against Shinde Sena leaders, reflects the BJP's strategy to maintain control over its allies ahead of the crucial civic elections.

ED attaches over Rs 200-crore assets in Goa land scam
New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday said it has attached properties worth more than Rs 200 crore located in prime locations of Goa as part of a money laundering investigation linked to a land 'scam' involving a man who unsuccessfully contested the 2022 assembly polls. A provisional order was issued on July 28 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach the properties. They are worth Rs 212.85 crore, the federal probe agency said. 'The probe pertains to a conspiracy of land grabbing and forgery perpetrated by an organised criminal syndicate led by Rohan Harmalkar and his accomplices," it said in a statement. Harmalkar was arrested by the ED in June and he is currently lodged in jail under judicial custody. He had contested the 2022 assembly polls but lost. The ED case stems from two FIRs registered by the Goa Police against Harmalkar and others on charges of forgery, cheating, impersonation, and use of counterfeit documents to fraudulently acquire land parcels in North Goa. The ED alleged that Harmalkar, in active conspiracy with Alcantro D'Souza and others, orchestrated a meticulously planned 'criminal enterprise" to misappropriate multiple high-value properties loacted in Anjuna, Revora, Nadora, Camurlim, Parra, and other adjoining areas falling within Bardez Taluka and Mapusa City. Investigation found, it claimed, use of forged genealogical records, fabricated sale deeds, counterfeit wills, manipulated inventory proceedings and other fraudulent documents by the accused, to falsely claim title over valuable immovable properties and to camouflage the same as legitimately held assets. A part of the alleged proceeds of crime were received 'directly" by Harmalkar, D'Souza and others and subsequently routed through accounts of their family members and associates, the agency said. The 'illicit" gains so acquired were routed through bank accounts of the key conspirators and their family members, thereby layering and integrating the tainted funds to project them as untainted, it added. The agency said it was making efforts to trace and attach more assets, which may be substantially higher in value, in order to fully unravel the extent of the laundering operation.
