Sand Scam Busted: Govt Cancels Kottapally Sand Mining Permission After Massive Irregularities Exposed
The move comes after Nenusaitham social activist Diddi Praveen Kumar blew the whistle on the ongoing illegalities and filed formal complaints with both the district administration and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He alleged that the mining contractor, with the backing of revenue and mining officials, had excavated sand far beyond the permitted depth of 2.5 meters, illegally reaching depths of over 10 meters, causing crores of rupees loss to the state exchequer.
In a shocking revelation, it was also alleged that the contractor and project officers had appointed private goons who established three unauthorized check-posts. Each truck transporting sand was allegedly forced to pay Rs. 8,000 at one post and an additional Rs. 3,000 at another point where private individuals, allegedly appointed by the Mining Project Officer, cleared waybills illegally. It was further claimed that multiple trucks were cleared on a single waybill, deepening the scale of the fraud.
Following sustained protests, public outrage, and a series of reports in Hans India, the Chief Minister took cognizance of the issue. Acting swiftly, he instructed the Mahabubnagar District Collector Viziyendira Boi to investigate and take action. Acting on the CM's orders, the Collector has officially cancelled the sand mining permissions for the Kottapally reach.
Speaking to the media, Praveen Kumar thanked CM Revanth Reddy for his prompt response and urged the district administration to blacklist the contractor involved. He demanded that criminal cases be booked under the WALTA Act against all individuals and officials complicit in the scam. 'If no legal action is initiated, I will move the High Court,' he warned.
The cancellation marks a significant milestone in the fight against the sand mafia in Telangana. However, activists continue to call for a broader crackdown on corrupt officials and systemic loopholes that allow such illegal operations to thrive.

CM Revanth reflects on achievements, plan to transform Telangana
Reiterating his government's commitment to ensure that Telangana plays a key role in the transformation of the country in the coming years, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said that it has decided to release a visionary document 'TelanganaRising – 2047' aimed at transforming the State into $1 trillion economy by 2035 and $3 trillion economy by 2047, the centenary year of Indian Independence. 'This is not just a plan. It is a resolve to make Telangana proud on the world stage,' the Chief Minister said during his address after hoisting the tricolour in Hyderabad on the Independence Day on Friday (August 15, 2025). As part of it, the State government envisaged a master plan for the development of the entire State from revival of Musi river to agriculture development in rural areas with a clear vision. Document to be released in December The document, to be released in December, would put forth ideas, innovations and implementation methods behind several projects that were crucial in enhancing the brand image of Hyderabad. It would unveil the determination to transform the State capital — which was being affected by floods — into a clean city and the vital role played by the 'highly ambitious' Regional Ring Road (RRR) in the development of the State. The Chief Minister said TelanganaRising-2047 was a plan to radically transform the image of Telangana with the construction of the Gandhi Sarovar project at Bapu Ghat, greenfield highways, dry ports, Hyderabad Metro Rail second phase, radial roads between Outer Ring Road (ORR) and RRR, and airports at Warangal and Adilabad among others. HYDRAA protected govt lands worth ₹30,000 crore In this context, he referred to the constitution of Hyderabad Disaster Response Force and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to curb encroachment of tanks and make the city safe. People in the previous government did not take a serious view of encroachment of lands, ponds and canals due to lack of credible system. HYDRAA had so far protected 13 parks and 20 lakes from encroachment besides protecting government lands worth ₹30,000 crore. He took a dig at the opposition parties for using HYDRAA as a weapon for political gains and requested people to compare the past with the present situation when the city received heavy rains. While Hyderabad was recognising the importance of HYDRAA services, the opposition parties were attempting to gain political advantages by showing the Agency in bad light which was unwarranted. 'The leaders who want our city to remain a water pool and the poor to struggle during heavy rains, are opposing HYDRAA,' he said accusing them of trying to create unrest among the poor by showing the Agency as a failed system. He elaborated on the government's initiatives in enhancing the quality and reach of education as well as sports infrastructure in the form of Young India Residential Schools and Young India Physical Education and Sports University, the latter to be managed by the Korean National Sports University. ₹39,575 crore on education These institutions, he said, would be game changers in education sector in the country. As many as 78 schools were being constructed with a cost of ₹15,600 crore and the government had spent ₹39,575 crore on education since the formation of the Congress government. 'We consider the expenditure incurred on education as an investment and not expense,' he said. He showered lavish praises on the police for playing a key role in the progress of the State by maintaining law and order. Telangana hosted many international conferences and was recognised as the most peaceful city because of its police system. 'According to India Justice Report – 2025, it is a matter of pride that Telangana police department is ranked first in policing among 18 States with population of more than one crore,' he said. New Osmania General Hospital at a cost of Rs. 2,700 cr The Chief Minister said that Osmania General Hospital is regarded as a temple for the poor in medical care since the past 100 years. 'We are restoring that medical temple which is in a dilapidated State,' he said. The government took up construction of new state of the art Osmania Hospital building complex on a sprawling 27 acres at a cost of ₹2,700 crore. Medical colleges were also being constructed in many places across the State. The government had spent ₹16,521 crore on medical and health sector since it same to power, he said.

Telangana CM requests Centre to take quick decision on BC quota hike
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Central Government to take a quick decision on the passage of the Bills for enhancing reservations for Backward Classes (BC) in education, employment and political fields to 42%. The Telangana State Assembly passed two Bills on March 17 this year enhancing the reservations for BCs to 42% in the three fields and these Bills are not prepared haphazardly. The government conducted scientific and in-depth exercise for almost a year besides spending ₹160 crore on caste census conducted for 50 days through 1.03 lakh trained enumerators. As many as 66.39% families in rural areas and 45.15 lakh in towns, a total of 1.12 crore families, are surveyed and the survey revealed that BCs constituted 56.33%. The government sought the Centre's cooperation in implementation of the enhanced reservations. 'I once again demand the Centre from the Golconda fort to take a quick decision on the pending bills,' he said. The Chief Minister made the appeal during his Independence Day speech after hoisting the national flag at the historic fort on Friday (August 15, 2025). In his more than one-hour address, Mr. Reddy outlined the various initiatives taken by the 'people's government' since it took over the reins in December 2023 including crop loan waiver, Indiramma houses, recruitment to vacant posts, stern action to prevent drugs and others. The government had decided to spend ₹22,500 crore on Indiramma housing scheme, 4.5 lakh houses would be constructed during the current year. The scheme had no political involvement and beneficiaries need not pay commissions. Poverty was the only criterion to be eligible for securing the houses and the government for the first time sanctioned 22,016 houses to tribes in the ITDA areas of the State. The Chief Minister suspected a conspiracy to make youth addicted to drugs in the last 10 years, but the government aborted it and strict measures were taken so that people would not even hear the word drugs. A new system was developed in the name of Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) which wad closely monitoring every corner of the State even as strong steps were initiated to curb drug trafficking and create fear among peddlers. Simultaneously, the government gave priority to provide employment to youth. Accordingly, the public service commission was reformed and more than 60,000 vacancies filled in just 20 months adopting a transparent mechanism in the conduct of the exams. Referring to the irrigation projects, the Chief Minister said the State government was completing pending projects with proper plans to provide irrigation water to the last ayacut of the State. He recalled how the previous government took up Kaleshwaram project which collapsed within few years and cautioned people about vested interests that were trying to divert attention from the previous failures. 'We will not compromise in achieving our judicious share of water from Godavari and Krishna rivers. We will strategically move in that direction,' he asserted adding the government was working on strategical plans for achieving permanent rights in the utilisation of water. Telangana's debts and arrears Elaborating on the welfare and development projects that go hand in hand in the people's government, Mr. Reddy, however, expressed concern that the previous government left the State with mounting debts and arrears of ₹8.21 lakh crore. Of these, ₹6.71 lakh crore were debts and ₹40,154 crore were dues relating to payment for employees and other schemes and ₹1.09 lakh crore dues were on account of the SC, ST sub-plan, Singareni, electricity and other departments. 'From the total debt, we have completed debt servicing of ₹2.20 lakh crore which included ₹1.32 lakh crore principal and ₹88,178 crore interest amount till date,' he said.

Muslim leaders urge govt to release pending scholarships
Hyderabad: In a letter to A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, prominent Muslim scholars and community leaders have called for the immediate release of post-matric scholarships for minority students. They have requested that the Chief Minister take serious note of the difficulties faced by students in continuing their higher education and employment and ensure that the scholarships are released as soon as possible. Prominent religious scholars and community leaders, including Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani (AIMPLB), Moulana Shah Jamal ur Rahman Miftahi (Ameer, Millat-e-Islamia), Mufti Sadiq Mohiuddin Faheem Nizami (United Muslim Forum), Mufti GhiyasuddinRahmani (Jamiat ul Ulama), Dr. M. Khalid Mubashir uz Zafar (Jamat-e-Islami Hind), S. Q. Masood (ASEEM) and Mohd Faraz Ahmed (SIO), along with representatives of major Muslim organisations, have jointly signed an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister regarding the non-release of post-matric scholarships under the RTF scheme. The letter highlights the urgent crisis faced by minority students due to the prolonged delay in scholarship disbursement. The signatories have warned that the delay is pushing thousands of minority students into severe academic and financial distress, forcing many into debt, disrupting their education, and, in some cases, resulting in student dropouts. The key demands in the letter were: the immediate release of all pending scholarships, the implementation of time-bound and transparent disbursement processes, and the allocation of special emergency funds to clear existing letter has been formally handed over to the Minister for Minority Welfare, the office of the Chief Minister, the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, and the Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, Shafiullah.
